I have no words....

It is up to the discretion of the officers whether to arrest someone for hit and run. However, I can tell you that the only time I do not take someone to jail is on extremely minor damage where I can believe the driver at fault legitimately did not know they hit the vehicle. Usually when they back out and "touch" another car.

Looking at the damage to their vehicle, that is not something an officer can chalk up to not being aware. Leaving the scene of an accident already shows intent to avoid punishment for your actions, that is why you go to jail in hit-and-run cases. I also find it funny that they charged him with unknowingly driving on a suspended license. What the hell kind of charge is that? That charge should not even exist. Ignorance is not a defense. Whenever the state suspends your license, they notify you. If you do not check your mail, that is your problem, not theirs.

I was not at the scene, so I cannot comment on the lack of sobriety tests given. I can definitely understand the uproar about them not giving one. Time of day and swerved into oncoming lanes. I probably would have given one... heck, even if upon initial observation I thought they were sober, I would have still done it just to waste their time after they wasted mine. :)

Bottomline: As an officer, I do think favoritism was shown in this case. However, this is based solely in the limited information provided by the two links posted.

Haha. That program deserves every bad thing that will come their way someday. It has gone beyond just the university and idiot of the decade Jimbo Fisher, this shows just how corrupt that whole area really is...what a joke. I would say I'm surprised by it is Tallatrashy after all and F$U so noting surprises me anymore.

These kids can do no wrong.

There have been stories going on for years about that PD and FSU PD. Everyone gave it a small story and moved on. Now NY Times and other major publications are in the mix. I guess FSU can #BlameJamies for the spotlight.

Gasp.

That is all I can say. Nothing is shocking anymore.

Facts: Car is totaled at 2:30 in the am, 2 passengers flee on foot, they return 20 minutes later with campus cops showing up, they get ticketed, no dui test.

What a fckin joke. The has to catchup with these clowns at some point. The Tallahassee PD is a joke and there should be some serious inquiries at the state level to clean house.

Cops catch them on foot and say "boys, go back to the scene at once. We won't give you field sobriety or arrest you, but you need to go back to scene immediately. We'll slap you on the wrist and cite you for traffic violations."

The Governor called to see what the deal with the program was and Jimbo said 'STFU' and hung up.

Title of this thread needs to be changed. FSU doesn't "struggle" with any of these things. To struggle would be to assume that there are negative consequences involved.

Wait. Aren't they already getting away with murder?

Is it any wonder Jameis Winston didnt flinch at stealing crab legs?

They know they're untouchable.

Think maybe a cop on the force who doesn't like the favoritism dropped a dime to the NYT? Interesting that they have such a complete story on this one isn't it.

my buddy drove home drunk one night and ran into a neighbors bush..he walked home and left his car there......he was in deep sh!t the next day for leaving the scene of an accident.....and i mean deep sh!t......

This is silly. I really hate both teams but go canes. I dislike Winston a lot

BOOM! I knew someone would get it. 8-)

In Pa? Must be more to the story because the only charge he'd be looking at is summary offenses.

Your buddy... Wink wink. I knew a guy that drove up the side of an on ramp through the grass, then ran over two mailboxes and took out an auction sign right before he almost rear ended a sheriff. He spent a long night in jail that guy did.
