Posted November 10, 201410 yr It would for me. Yesterday was not as bad as the FSU loss to me. If we finish 10-2 or 9-3 and get a respectable bowl game against a good team, I'd be fine with that. I don't know what it would take for that to happen. Is it possible with 10-2 or 9-3?

November 10, 201410 yr I believe the Orange is still an option at 10-2, not sure about 9-3. With the playoffs taking the 4 best teams, I think that opens the door a little wider for ND to squeak in at 9-3. EDIT: ND will still need to meet the other requirements though - Top 8? 9 Wins and something about being ranked higher than the other non AQ conference winners or something...I forget Edited November 10, 201410 yr by IrishGuy
November 10, 201410 yr Yes, regardless of what people may say now right off of a loss. If we finish 11-2 with a win in a New Year's Bowl, this site will be rocking through the off-season. The negative nancies will bring this loss up every now and then, but the overall mindset will be positive if we finish 11-2. I do think we need to finish 10-2 to make it to the big bowls though.
November 10, 201410 yr I fear dropping the final 2 vs Louisville and USCum.... Then ND will be somewhere awful for bowl season.
November 10, 201410 yr If we cant make the Orange, then I want the Cotton. We need the right opponent though. You guys who are clamoring to play a good team, ask yourselves this: do you really want to play LSU or Auburn or Alabama? I would rather face an opponent that we have a more realistic shot at winning, say a Nebraska or a Wisconsin, etc.

November 10, 201410 yr Just saw a "projection" of a Russell Ath bowl bid vs West Virginia. If ND gets to 10-2, they will more than likely end up in the Orange Bowl against either Clemson or Duke, which I would rather have Clemson for the namesake.
November 10, 201410 yr If ND gets to 10-2, they will more than likely end up in the Orange Bowl against either Clemson or Duke, which I would rather have Clemson for the namesake. ND is NOT going to the Orange Bowl. They need to be the HIGHEST ranked team left (after playoff selections) between the B10 and the SEC. Likely would need to ranked #5 and I dont see that happening. A Top 10 finish and a invite to one of the other major bowls is more likely.

The Orange Bowl is out barring a major collapse from a bunch of teams, however, they can "jump" the auto team and select a lower team if they wish. The Cotton, Fiesta and Peach have no current auto-tie ins, so the committee will selects the next best 5 teams to fill those spots, but there is also a spot for the highest ranked Non-power 5 team. However, if the Big 10 champ is not in the playoff, they automatically get a spot in the Peach, Cotton or Fiesta. So there are a bunch of contingencies, but to make it simple, essentially, the 6 highest rated non-playoff teams should land in one of the top tier bowls.
November 10, 201410 yr Winning out and winning a BCS bowl would no question make this season a success. Finally gets us a BCS game and shows we can win the big game. Plus it would probably get us ranked in the top 5 to start the season with what we have returning.

If this doesn't happen I think the coaches did a masterful job with all that has happened with the preseason misery of the frozen 5, the FSU rip off, Losing Schmidt and this 5 TO debacle in the desert.
November 10, 201410 yr Absolutely 10-2 and a top tier bowl game against a KSU or MSU or auburn will do plenty to get people fired up and very excited for next season Not to mention it would give us another shot at a top team to get this taste out of our mouths Edited November 10, 201410 yr by goirish83

West Virginia would be a nail biter. But if EG doesn't get the turnovers under control, ND will be hard pressed to beat any quality team.

Wvu is a four loss team? I have to ask, do you watch any football besides the Irish? Wvu got beat pretty handily by a mediocre UT team this weekend.
November 11, 201410 yr I'd love to play an SEC team in a NY bowl game. Bring on Auburn, A&M, LSU, etc...
November 11, 201410 yr I'd love to play an SEC team in a NY bowl game. Bring on Auburn, A&M, LSU, etc... Auburn is very good and should be in the playoff if it weren't for some headscratching plays, LSU would be tough as well. I hope we play one of them because we haven't fared well against the SEC as of late. Edited November 11, 201410 yr by ndomer4
November 11, 201410 yr I'd love to play an SEC team in a NY bowl game. Bring on Auburn, A&M, LSU, etc... Auburn and LSU are hard hitting teams with a defense. Either one would beat ND in a bowl game. It would almost be Alabama all over again.
It would for me.
