You know the oline is costing us games this year and will cost us another against USC. The line was great last year thanks to watt and Martin who are amazing football players. As good as the pass pro was last year they couldn't get a push in the run game if they're life depended on it. Out one good year we dominated the lines and I'm sick of seeing this 4 and 5 star talent go to waste. The talent is here the development is no good. This staff is trying so hard to outsmart people they haven't focused on fundamentals. I don't know why a top back would come here because there are no holes and we never run the ball.

Also, if you aren't an all world blocker, you don't get to run the ball.

Yeah the problem is turnovers but people don't realize if we could run the ball, win at the Los, and control the clock we wouldn't have to sling it and turn the ball over. I have had it though with golsons fumbles, it's been a problem since 2012 and the problem has got worse. That is what stated all this too and to no surprise I fully expect him to fumble in every game the rest of the way. We apparently have the oline talent but the coaching is lacking as we still can't get a push and control games which is the real problem.

While the o-line is not dominant, they didn't turn the ball over 5 times. If you're going to fire Heistand you damn well better fire the qb coach.

3 of those TOs were flukey tip balls.

exactly, people can blame whoever the want, but the truth is just being unlucky. When CRob handed the ball to the DB for the pick 6, it was pretty obvious we were simply not meant to win the game.

I will take partial blame for this loss, when I was watching, the score was 3-51 and they were 28-3 when I was playing Call of Duty.

Golson has consistently thrown into lineman as if they are not there. It is his fault and the coaching staff who tolerate it. He is a short QB who needs to be aware of what dangers there are that can cause turnovers. Teams run tip drills for a reason and Golson paid the price for his poor decision making. Keep making excuses, but 17 turnovers in the past 6 games tell the tale.

Worst thread ever... Best oline coach in ncaa - period.

You have evidence, stats, facts to back this up? How bout the inability to get a push or open holes? Missed assignments ? The talent is there so back up this statement with stats and facts please.

If that were true our o line littered with 4 and 5 star talent and experience should be a helluva lot better then this

So we are now going back to recruiting rankings as being the method of evaluating players ? By the same logic, our linebackers should be the best in the country and not have depended on Schmidt as being the anchor of the unit.

But alas, I will take the bait...

Stanley - top 50 nfl prospect this year

Zach Martin...1st round pick, likely all rookie team, outside chance at the pro bowl

Chris Watt... 3rd round pick, starter as a rookie on a playoff team

In seven seasons at Illinois, he produced ten All-big 10 selections... Set school records for points, rushing yards and fewest sacks allowed...

His tenure at Tennessee, some of you act as if he walked into Ann Arbor in 1998 (IMO best oline in modern ncaa history - Backus, Hutchinson, Jansen, Mo Williams) Nonetheless he produced James Stone as a freshman all American and despite not having a senior on the unit he led a group that only gave up 18 sacks in 12 games...in the sec nonetheless.

The problem w/ ND's oline this season is Nick Martin breaking his wrist and playing with one hand...and Elmer just isn't strong enough yet...that's a Longo issue.

And yes, the oline isn't playing up to expectations, but did you feel this way against FSU ? How about instead of placing blame at the coaching staff, you tip your cap to the other team and look at the 35 points given up on turnovers, that in large part are from the QB not throwing the ball away and the WR's not getting open ??

It's a team game, you win and lose as a team.

Also, we seem to attract a lot of top talent to play on Heistand's O-line. Not that there shouldn't be some adjustments, but there must be a reason that all these quality O-line players want to come here. I don't remember the O-line recruits being so good in a LONG time..... perhaps tossing out the O-line coach isn't the *first* strategy we suggest?

Sack#1 was a corner blitz that QB needs to pick up hot route or throw it away, he had a receiver crossing, but tried to scramble instead of throwing it over the middle, probably the right decision, but I've never seen a ND QB hold the ball w/ one hand so far from his body so much...

Sack#2 was a 4 man rush wher QB had open receiver breaking across the middle and he elected to try to squeeze thru hole on the right side, despite no pressure coming or compromising the pocket... The cliche of happy feet or hero ball applies here...

Sack#3 Tight End allowed looping DL to get outside, and who in the hell teaches the QB to use the ball to break his fall, throw it away or take the sack, never ever ever do you put the ball on the ground intentionally. My thought, QB is afraid of hitting the ground hard and is trying to break his fall

Int #1 - better coaching by asu defense, got hands up and fought off Lombards cut block by gaining depth...

Int #2 - pick 6 - throwing to backside receiver caused QB to throw into a bad throwing lane, no pressure, just a bad decision on where to throw and no rhythm at QB - next drive 3 & out - quick score and 31-3 and the game is starting to look over

Re-watching game now...

Oline wasn't the problem, maybe BK being pass happy was a contributing factor instead of running the ball with more power and controlling the tempo would be my early second guessing

31-3 and Golson throws a swing pass trying to catch asu in a blitz, when the offensive line gave a screen release to the second level, not sure I follow the concept of the play, interior line ran forward, not to the play side - run for 3 - Golson has no pressure and threw the ball 30 yards off target in a miscommunication of the proper route...which looked like Fuller was correct

Side note: Greg Bryant should not be returning punts

Sack #4 TE pulls in designed play and is responsible for blitzing LB...his path ran him into him for goodness sake. TE drops the block and looks to QB for a pass and his man made the sack

---still not seeing a lot of oline breakdowns, two botched pass blocking schemes by Koyack and Golson showing poor ball security and inability to read blitz schemes and throw ball away...

Sack #5 - QB took his eyes off receivers and didn't scramble and didn't throw it away, instead he danced in the backfield and ran into contact...not on the oline. Fuller was open on initial crossing route and Brown was behind the safety about ten yards downfield streaking by himself when QB broke back inside. If he throws to either WIDE OPEN receiver it's a first down or more.

Sack #6 - opening drive of second half Golson runs what looks like a draw... But none of the lineman run to second level and 88 at bottom of the screen looking for a pass when the corner blitzed... Again, this was under 1 second from taking the snap. Hero Ball at its worst... Golson no longer running the offense.

INT #3 - 34-10 and inside the 10 yard line... He throws into triple coverage instead of the out route where no one besides his receiver can catch it... Koyack again doesn't block the end man on the line, which gave up a hit on the QB...awful decision by QB

Ahhh... 10:00 in 3rd qtr and Elmer doesn't pick up inside blitz, you were right, a missed assignment did occur

And again on the next play 3rd and 7 -- Elmer looked outside on a blitz pickup instead of inside...

And then a false start...really good series for 79

------ punt

Inside the ten after Carlisle catch and run...and when going to the ground, Golson still with one hand on the ball...smh

Still not sure how Cam didn't get in on 2nd down...probably because Koyack was TWO steps slow off the snap and his man got into his legs...anyone wonder how Koyack is still playing to this point??

34-17

Last play of 3rd qtr they sent 9 - Koyack was wiiiiiiiiide open and Golson missed him by five yards behind the route

And I'm done with The Walk-On holder... Dude is a liability - six points at a minimum left on the board in second qtr

34-17 ball at midfield coming off a turnover... Best drive of the day, 34-24

34-31 on a two play drive...

Having draft picks shows some development but those are the guys doing the work, Zack Martin is the reason he's amazing it's definitely not Harry Heistand. I for one am not a fan of the stupid zone blocking scheme as we always look lost.

Our linebackers are young, our oline is not. There has been evidence based on facts and stats that recruiting rankings do matter whether you like it or not. Also the thing about an oline is it has nothing to do with individuals, awards, honours.... etc because it is a UNIT! Especially with the zone blocking scheme everyone needs t be on the same page and they are not with goes to Heistand.

When the oline doesn't miss assignments, opens running lanes for our backs and can dominate a game I'll back Heistand. Kelly should evaluate his staff and see these top recruits aren't getting the job done and they are either confused, or their coach hasn't got them ready. I have a hard time believing these 4 and 5 star mammoths the 15-20 we have are as bad as they look because they look awful and to me it looks more mental.

Everyone knows the qb might be the most important but after that it is oline and dline and you can bet this unit will get embarrassed against usc.

This goes back to game one where we couldn't open up holes against freaking RICE! Syracuse and Purdue games were no better.

Ok. What's your solution? Get rid of Hiestand and who do you get to replace him? I don't understand it when someone's solution is "Get rid of that guy. Bench this guy." Getting rid of a guy isn't a solution.
