I know he made some mistakes against Navy, but After Morgan got his feet wet, he made some athletic plays AND VIOLENT COLLISIONS.

I feel bad for Joe and want to thank him.

But this creates the same opportunity Tommy Rees' legal thing did for Golson.

In fact I'm as excited to see Niles as I was to see Golson.

I know that's weird but I like defense. I know Vangorders middle blitzes will get there a step sooner now. I've been waiting for that since Manti left

I fixed your post

I agree, Niles brings a level of athleticism to the position that jumps off the screen. I do quibble with the comparison to rees (simply b/c I think Schmidt actually has some athleticism) but I get the point you are trying to make.

I just hope that A) everybody keeps Schmidt in your thoughts as he will be back and I suspect that he'll have a role in next year's defense and B) can take the good with the bad on Niles, realizing that he's every bit the freshman. He's going to have some very glaring gaffes but that's the price we will pay for having a true physical beast for next year.

I've gotta say, I was immediately onboard the wagon when Niles committed last year just because I always struggle to project LB's from HS to college (I wasn't against him, just had no sense of how quickly his physical talents could translate). Well, it smells like kool aid to me now and I'm 'bouts to drink up.

Absolutely Schmidt is a VERY GOOD player, our leading tackler, our brain center.

The Rees Cam Schmidt thing just goes to the fact that Kelly tends toward production over potential.

He(Kelly Basically either show me mastery at practice or be called up due to attrition, injury, suspension etc.)

I think its great that Niles got to sit and watch 3/4's of the year.

If you listen to Kelly on Manti when he got here, he'll say he played too early.

This is the timetable Kelly's youngsters begin to shine. Remember 2013 Folston vs Navy?

Thank you sir

Faith----I think Taylor Kelly is going to be excited to see Niles Morgan as well !!----

aloha

Linebacking is starting to become like the offensive line. It's not there yet but next year we will be two deep with 4 star studs all with speed. I don't see us taking anyone like Deeb and Martini again for a long time. Not to say they aren't good athletes because they are, but we are recruiting elite speed backers and next year we have 6 of them on the roster. That number will only increase over the next few years.

ND was pretty fortunate to have 3 stud linebackers right in their backyard this year. Not saying they won't continue to recruit the position well, but for next season it isn't looking as bright at the moment.

I wish there was a gif for this play

That hit was insane. He blasted threw like a rock and drilled that kid with a full head of steam. Definitely one of the most eye-opening plays I've seen a player make in a long time.

You don't watch much football then...

Way too early to say that!!! It won't be a position of need next year, but I bet we get two more of these studs. Irish Illustrated will have their master list on defense out in February. At that time I will see who we are recruiting.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Morgan does tomorrow. Hopefully, the confidence Kelly expressed at the press conference proves accurate.

Not to quibble, but Morgan's first name is spelled "Nyles."

I think he meant from ND middle linebackers this year haha

I watch plenty of football and that hit was freaking outstanding. He blew through a hole, hit it hard, and destroyed the ball carrier. It was an elite play in every sense of the word.

I fully believe that we will land a guy or two, and i know it's early. I'm just not sure it will as strong a LB class as this year. Then again, not many classes can be better.

I'm not disagreeing that it was a great play, but it wasn't Bo trucking Boz huge...
