correct?

If TCU loses to KSU they drop out of top 10 or at least behind #8. If KSU loses they drop out of top 10 completely. In my opinion we need a KSU win because then KSU has to go on the road to WVU and Baylor and they aren't winning both of those and that would deal TCU their 2nd loss.

If Bama and/or Michigan State loses that's another 1-2 spots.

Also for the teams behind us, we need Nebraska and Baylor to lose as well to get those 2nd losses.

Anyone see any teams behind us jumping with a win this weekend? At first I was concerned about a tOSU win over Michigan State but since now there is only one spot between MSU and ASU I'm not concerned.

Edit: Assuming we beat ASU this weekend of course.

Well of course this is predicated upon the assumption we win.

yeah... I'm with you Rocket... this ASU game has me nervous.... more nervous than FSU for some reason.

Todd Graham and his douchie headset have gotten the best of BK before. With the shakeup on D and ASU's offense, I'm anxious....

Stating the obvious here.... but this is a make or break game for ND and likely the best remaining team on the schedule.

I'm only concerned if ND doesn't come out and play up to their abilities.

we are in a playoff right now with this game.

cant complain if you lose.

however, if we win, we should be at leasr no.7 because we would have a better win on our resume than sparty. and committee has used best win as tiebreaker it seems.

mich state also had two of biggest games at home.

nd has three of four biggest games on the road

And we all know this rarely happens...:-?

Oh, I forgot about that. Good point. However, if MSU beats OSU they will have two wins against ranked teams to our one.

I hope USC creeps back into the top 25. I think if they win the next two, going along with my conspiracy theory that the committee is providing a back door into the playoff for ND, they will put them back into the top 25.

True, but it happened on 10/18/2014. I see a similar showing this Saturday but with a win. If not, oh well, we aren't play off material.

No offense to anyone who has taken the time to go through all the scenarios by which we move up or get into playoff consideration, but it is has been way overdone. We need to win out. PERIOD! Take care of the teams on our schedule. We aren't getting into any playoffs this year fellas. The message was delivered by the committee. Focus on fixing the swiss cheese defense. Lets continue to improve on both sides of the ball. Get into a nice bowl game AND WIN IT, finish the 2015 class with a couple of studs, keep our coaching staff intact.... etc.

If we are only guaranteed the 8th spot. Stick a fork in our chances. If beating the number 9 team doesn't push us higher, we'll never get over the needed hump. We NEED to jump MSU.

Look, we need to cheer heartily for three teams this weekend. LSU at home, at night, against Alabama and tOSU at night, at Michigan State. That'd put us in line for #6. Then you can start dreaming big. Why? Well because MissState, Auburn and Alabama all play each other. The SEC won't/can't/shouldn't get two spots. And the final one is simply, Utah. If Utah muscles out a win at home against Oregon...the domino's in this case would be the best possible scenario IMO. It keeps the Pac12 from a spot. It devalues Michigan State(loss to a two loss team)

Now...fall back games. Wisconsin taking down Nebraska at home helps. That would do two things. One. LSU beat Wisconsin, and if Wisky beats Nebraska, that cuts into one of Sparty's "Signature" wins. Two, it ensures that the B1G title game features a team from the west that is a has-been. This is important because the winner of tOSU/Sparty IS going to finish 12-1. No doubt.

Hell if we just get wins from Utah and LSU this weekend, you might even see us crack the top 5. KState/TCU winner in the 4 spot and it'd be a likely that we leap frog Sparty. Then it's just about waiting for the Auburn or Mississippi State to drop one of their difficult remaining road games

Look, I get ya. But nothing about 2015 is guaranteed. Injuries...academics::coughcough::...2015 is anything but a done deal. Texas could be much improved in year 2 of Charlie Strong. Georgia Tech is an option team. Clemson is a tough place to play on the road and Watson will be a rising Sophomore. USC WILL be better. Stanford will be better.

We have to dream for THIS season.

I don't think it's as far off as some think if we win out. Despite my moaning last week about MSU being ahead of us (not so much being ranked 10th) I think it was HUGE that put they put ASU at #9.

ND will beat ASU because you need a lot to beat Golson and ASU does not have enough

That makes us #9

K state will beat TCU

That makes us #8

URBAN AND OSU WILL BEAT MSU ___they will beat the #7 team we will beat the #9 team they cannot jump us

That makes us #7

And a good shot by LSU to beat Alabama---the rest will likely happen but this one could

That makes us #6

NOBODY CAN JUMP US GIVEN OUR WIN OVER THE COMMITTEE FAVORITE ASU

We have a reasonable shot at sitting #7 or even #6 by next Tuesday

WE CAN TOTALLY CHANGE PERCEPTIONS & REALITY WITH A BIG WIN SATURDAY!!

BOTH Louisville and USC both just barely sitting outside the top 25 will give us a chance at TWO MORE quality wins in the final three weeks....

ALL WE NEED TO DO IS BLOW ASU OUT OF TEMPE AND WE WILL BE SITTING PRETTY!

aloha's go irish!

I actually think louisville and usc are just as good as asu. I know asu beat usc, but they were incredibly lucky to pull that one out of their arses....

It's still a difficulte haul for the Irish, even if they do win on Saturday.

All of you are wrong!!! Just kidding but on the serious side, ASU jumped 5 spots by beating a lower ranked (17th) Utah team, I say that loosely as the Utah kicker missed a field goal that would have won the game in regulation. Therefore when we win on Saturday we should jump at least 5 spots, matching ASU's jump because, in the eyes of the committee, we beat that higher ranked team so therefore we should be at least 5th!!! However we all know that now it wil be stated that ASU really isnt that good so we will not get the cred we deserve and the associated boost in the standings!! Such is the luck of being IRISH!!!

Love your thinking but disagree with your prediction of KSU winning (not that it matters as one of those two teams will fall back). KSU has a pedestrian offense and I think TCU wins by a TD at the very least. I don't think that KSU scores 17 points on TCU. Don't let the their best win against Oklahoma fool you.

only guarantee with this committee is that each poll will take certain posters from doom and gloom to clear paths with which ND certainly gets in. I hope this continues since it means we're still in the discussion.

I'm hopeful that there will eventually be an argument for ND, not just what we haven't done.

You certainly can't discredit how the schedule looked on the front end, before UM became a dumpster fire and each team dropped a game or 2 early on.

The only place I am going to disagree is on Stanford, I think they are on the decline under Shaw. They had a string of great athletes come through, Luck, Skov and that linebacking crew, the two running backs, that inbred canibal RB from Norco, but I don't see it trending that way. All CFB is cyclical and the cycle is even shorter for high academic schools.

I marvel that Stanford does not have the same kind of academic issues we have, or do they...

Point is, you can only have so many stud athletes who can make that academic cut and I am not sure that Shaw has the sand to land them. I see Stanford on the way down back to mid major spoiler at best.

I am curious whether the P12 is just eating itself alive or if they are just not that good, if Oregon makes it into the playoffs we will find out.

Agreed. They lose their entire defense next year.

I almost feel the committee is waiting for ND to validate the loss to FSU with a big win. Win over a top 10 team on the road, and that loss isn't flukey anymore.

I think if ND wins by 14 this week, they are #6 next week, regardless of outcome of other teams. Losses will just move them up more.
