Are they in it with a lot of top talent left? I see they only have an 8-9 man class now. Shaw has had up and down success in his years there, but he always had winning to sell the program. Not anymore.

It would appear they are trending the wrong direction on many fronts. This would bode well for ND who has lost a few guys their direction of late.

Any insights?

People forget that when Harbaugh was coach there he demoted David Shaw who was his offensive coordinator and also took away play calling from him. Without elite offensive lineman, an Andrew Luck at QB and an elite runner they are very beatable and for sure recruits are taking note of this. Wouldn't surprise me to see them trend downward even more.

They lost out on a guy that they were heavily favored for most of the recruiting process Canton Kaumatule. To Oregon, so that sucks for them. They are in on a few guys though.

The one problem I see is if Stanford continues to swirl that leaves USC with it's choice of elite talent to choose from in Cali. Not that they don't get their fair share already but we don't want the Pete Carroll days of them monopolizing the state of California to come back.

Holy Jesus, Vegas that sig is hypnotic. Good thing I'm at a train and not moving. I'm sorry, what's the topic of this thread?

True, but they get a bunch of national guys too they seem to battle ND for.

Noor Davis

Josh Garnett

Redmond Wright

Dalton Schultz

Reilly Gibbons

Etc. ND won't get them all, but one fewer top tier academic school to battle isn't a bad thing.

No doubt Stanford has declined some but they usually get there pieces. I don't think they really have big numbers earlier in the process. A lot of guys are taking the SAT right now so their numbers may change shortly. They definitely have declined though.

Canton didn't qualify for Stanford, they didn't lose him.

I think it was blocked unfortunately, but I'm not sure. :(

Fair enough...I was unaware of that. Thank Big

So basically the CFB committee will continue to beat up ND for weak SOS in the future. Stanford is the best ND win right now and that isn't saying much. ND needs Stanford to be strong in future years.

Reilly was ND's to take to reject. I feel for the guy, same as with Jurkovic's kid. Just no room.

We also wanted A. Peat, W. Lyons, T. Alexander, and lost B. Leuders to a flip. Thing is, these are the guys that Kelly was talking about "Shopping down a different aisle" in recruiting. Most of them could have gone to SC (with both talent and grades). If they turned down SC for Stanford, they were very realistic gets for ND. I'll take the diluted schedule if it means getting these kids. Given current depth, what ND fan wouldn't kill for Lyons, Leuders, Wright or Davis?

But yeah, that's a puny class so far.

Fairly typical dynamic for Stanford recruiting.

Admissions are a monster and a bunch of kids wait around to get accepted before commiting. Guys like Garnett, Lueders, Peat, etc all pledged later in the process for that reason.
