Posted September 5, 200618 yr http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/5886014 Just so we're all clear on how this works: Destroy a cream puff at home, move up. Beat a top 30 team on the road, move down. Gotcha.
September 5, 200618 yr after watching the GT game being ranked #4 is probbly where ND should have started.
September 5, 200618 yr I know its silly to get all jammed up about a Week 2 poll, and ultimately we'll all shrug it off. I also think that USC deserved to move ahead of ND - they also went on the road against an opponent ranked cumulatively in the low 30's, but they absolutely romped. Texas, however, beating up on NT at home is just stupid. Georgia Tech is at least 70-80 teams better than NT ranking-wise. Again, we can let this go, but I really think the voters came down with some 1-vs-2-itis.
September 5, 200618 yr Yeah I guess if you win on the road in your first game in a tough game against a team thats not named Northern Illinois, Arkansas, or North friggin Texas, you should drop in the rankings, what a friggin joke
September 5, 200618 yr ok guys i predicted that the irish would fall to 7 position, i didnt miss it to much got to remember fans its controlled by the tv/media notre dame DESERVED to fall from second, they should have been rated there to start with usc beat a quality team, texas beat a warm up if the irish had whipped the tech team and they would have still fell to at least third as the hype is now no 1 vs no 2, its all just crap, mark may o well the hell with him, we will bounce back to 2nd or first depending on the TeX/Ohio state game , no matter who wins it the game has to be outstanding if they want to stay 1 or 2, i just hope we stay where we are, tied for forth with auburn and they are a better team then us right now the test for the irish comes against Joe's team if its a thriller we will go back to 2nd if we lose we will drop back into the teens, based upon the tech and lions results., where is old beno we need him to sat opposite mark may, . go irish
September 5, 200618 yr I dont care if we won by 4 or 40, point is out of all the top 10 teams, besides Cal, we played the toughest team in the toughest envioronment and WON, there is no reason for us to move at all in the polls, if we were the number 4 team, then they should of put us there in the first place, why the heck should we drop after winning doesnt make any sense to me.
September 5, 200618 yr It makes no sense to me either, though I really don't care about dropping in the polls as long as there's still a goose egg in the loss column. I'm having a hardtime understanding some of the old guard sometimes, maybe it's because I don't drink in the afternoon, but I disagree that Auburn is better than ND and that ND was ranked too high to begin with. So bring it on, how mean and bad are the lions? When we beat them how far will we drop, what will be the excuse?
September 5, 200618 yr Ohhhhhhh?? Come on we don't really like dropping a point as fans. Go over to recruiting area and we are all over trying to have (Whatever is the mythical crown) of top 5 recruiting. It's important to a majority we are crowned by whomever as winners. Myself, I'm with you guys. Who cares? As long as come december we are 12-0. All else falls into place. So what USC was rated #1 3 years in a row had with Texas #1 recruiting class? It's on the field of sweat baby it's decided.
September 6, 200618 yr beyond #25, there is really no ranking....you're just kinda out there waiting to get into the 25 although, some are closer than others.....but that's just the way it goes. Streets and smiths, athlon and all those so-called experts just need a way to line up the teams.... 1-25, that's it.....anything else is non-25
September 6, 200618 yr Right on Imroc. it's like the shiney expensive lures in a bait shop for fish. catches more gullible buyers then fish
September 6, 200618 yr i might be different on this, but i dont like early season rankings and dont really put alot of stock into who is ranked where. how do teams get their pre season rankings? basically football "experts" looking at players names on paper and saying oh this team looks good or that team looks good so they should be ranked high? with the number of players coming and going each year its got to be hard to rank teams before anyone plays any games. even after one or two games its still hard to say who deserves to be ranked high. thats why i like how the BCS doesnt even come out with any rankings until weeks into the season after everyone has allready played a bunch of games.
September 6, 200618 yr No. 4 is OK. think of it this way ... Either 1 or 2 is falling this weekend, then ND has a shot at No. 3 in the last game of the season. If the Irish do what they need to (win) they'll be in the show.
September 6, 200618 yr If the Irish do what they need to (win) they'll be in the show. Love that quote, cant get any clearer than that
September 6, 200618 yr Polls are a means to create news, along with employing people. It the participants in said polls knew what they were doing and talking about, they could pick 10 out of 10. Which they can't, that's why they're working instead of making a living in Vegas. One game at a time, PSU next.
September 6, 200618 yr think of it this way ... Either 1 or 2 is falling this weekend...... that's all you have to say....nicely put
September 6, 200618 yr here.... I'll copy and paste what I replied at notredamefans.com Alex - "Worthless configuration of designated positioning to draw attention to NCAA football." Contestant - "What is a 2nd week poll"
September 6, 200618 yr here's how i'd rank them after week 1 1. USC 2. Texas 3. Florida St. 4. Ohio St. 5. Notre Dame 6. Tennessee yes i'd put FSU at #3 their defense is so fast and dominate they would have no problem shutting down anyone. yes i know they didn't have much on offense but they were playing a miami team that is just as good and FSU still has more talent than almost anyone in the top 10.
