Herd that man.If goila can't hit the close ones then we need to get someone who can.Maybe he should of told him that if he missed them the team would have to run 8-80's.

I hate it when kickers miss chip shots!! Not that I can kick one but if it was the only thing that I was asked to do and i got a scholarship to do you better be damn straight that i would do whatever it took to be the best and perform in the clutch!!!!!!!

Immediately following Saturday's game, I was sure that Burkhart would kick our FGs this week. Now I'm not so sure. As fans, it's easy for us to just write off Gioa, but it's not so easy for Charlie. Here's a question I'm sure he's thinking about: what if he puts in Burkhart and he can't hit a field goal either? It's a realistic possibility. If Burkhart was hitting everything in practice, than he certainly would have been the starting kicker against Georgia Tech. The fact that Gioa was the guy is an indication that Burkhart's having a tough transition to kicking without a tee. If I'm Charlie, I'm going to be very nervous about messing with a freshman scholarship kicker's head if he's not ready. Something tells me that if Gioa is replaced next week, it will be by Renkes - not Burkhart.

The other thing to consider is that good coaches find ways to build their players' confidence. If Gioa doesn't get another shot next week, he'll probably never recover from this. If he does play, and he hits a kick or two he could turn it around. Clearly, this is a confidence issue and not a talent issue.

Weis said this weekend that Gioa will get another chance, so we will see him this weekend again. When Burkhart is ready, I am sure Weis will put him out there.

Great post lowe and thought went into it.

Eh Gioa really pissed me off going 0-2, but hey maybe it was first game jitters, if he struggles this week then i think charlie should pull the plug on him. only get 1 chance to redeem yourself kid. I wonder how burkhart is feeling? oh well hope gioa gets it together.

i'll be hoping for the best.

i dont think Burharts pleased with himself...i think he knows he wasnt playing well in practice....dont know how he feels about Goia though

Burhart seemed to be struggling at the end of last year... he was missing kicks left and right.. hopefully he can get his stride back..

All of this does make me wonder if Charlie might start recruiting a kicker this season.

Hey All - finally got registered...excited to be here. Thanks for all the knowledge over the past several months. You guys are the best.

I'll try to keep up and perhaps lend some insights from where I sit west of Chi-town. Also, a former Domer from the Holtz era.

I thought about that kid from Oregon State a few years ago who missed 5 field goals in the first game on the road at LSU. I recall he came back and one one later in the season. Hopefully it won't take too long to get this kicking situation ironed out for us.

On the brighter side, I agree with an earlier poster on another string that it was nice to see some kick-offs going to the goal line and beyond.

Senor - that's HILARIOUS! That's where I'm at now - GE. Have only been there a short time as I recently relocated there from the past 4 years in Atlanta. Small world.

Hey D Fence welcome aboard. :) I'm trying to recall that kickers name.

Welcome D Fence, good to have you at the DD.
