How does the rain forecast effect our offense and their defense on Saturday with the new turf? Does it get slick and interfere with footing for O-linemen, running backs or defenders? I am unclear whether our new turf will provide a positive, negative or neutral spin on the outcome in the rain . . . thoughts?

They will grow the turf long to give Notre Dame the advantage.

Footing shouldn't really be an issue.

Gripping the ball will be the only issue but I'd imagine they'll have plenty of dry balls (ha) throughout the game.

Wind would be another issue if there's that.

Mid 50's and scattered clouds/showers. Does it get any better for football?

-2 with a Northeast wind off of Lake Michigan in January count?

LOL...

Actually if I think "football weather", the fall (October/earl-November) in South Bend and the winter (January) in Chicago are my two touchstones...not a fan of football in sweltering heat and humidity, makes me think "Orange Bowl, University of Miami and 1989", then I think "3rd and 43" and I break out in hives...

I pray for temps in the 40s and rain everytime the annual October California game comes around. Let these Cali kids suffer in the cold.

40's.........cold?? HA HA HA. I guess for them it would be. For ND it'll be spring.

My uncle lives in San Fransisco. I visited over spring break one year, it was 49 when I landed. I had on shorts and T-Shirt, he had on a leather bomber jacket and stocking cap.

Unfortunately----RAIN just like most other weather issues favor THE DEFENSIVE TEAM over the speedy offensive team---lets hope its not too bad.

Does it? I'm not so sure about that...It's MUCH easier for a WR to make his deliberate cuts on a wet surface than it is for the DB to makes his reactive movements.

I agree. the runner usually knows where he is going or wants to go, and the defender must react quickly.

however, sometime the defender lucks out, too, because the offensive player slips in the rain or snow or mud.

we saw the grass last year hurt us against Navy. good thing we have turf now?

Yea that's true for this play or that--but OVERALL--sloppy weather will translate into a sloppy game---sloppy slower games ALWAYS are better for a defense,

Now we have a good defense too--so there is that---and it won't help there offense since THEY ARE NOT A POWERFUL RUN TEAM... that would be an even worse effect of the rain---so their offense will also slow down---

Since our pass game execution has been SO PRECISE & CRISP--its hard to imagine BAD WEATHER being anything but a challenge for that continued near flawless execution..

Yes, mid 50's and clear sky to showcase the full talents of both teams instead of being effected by the weather and making the game one-dimensional and boring.

THIS^^^I was at an Oklahoma game when the team they were playing was Stanford. It was a rainy day and the field was a bit slippery. The quarterback for Stanford was John Elway and the rain truly benefitted Stanford. Elway stood deep in the pocket and side stepped on-rushers while delivering strikes to speedy little receivers on crossing routes. Chewed up Oklahoma and upset them. At the time it upset me too.

would they practice with a wet football and spray the field at all if they knew it was going to rain on Saturday?

I just read a story that Alford greases the footballs the RB use in practice if rain is in the forecast.
