Anyone else excited about this kid after seeing those 2 plays last night? Pretty strong debut you think. Kid is bigger and more muscular that I thought he would be, especially in the lower body. Also taller. Oklahoma has been raving about him. He just looked dynamite to me. Coming out of hs, he's supposed to have outstanding hands. Real excited about Hunter Jr. going forward.

He definitely has the circle button spin move down :) He did look impressive and I agree, much bigger than I was expecting.

Hopefully his confidence and health continue to grow

good for him.

and you saw some of that jet sweep being introduced with him in the offense.

saw some more wrinkles overall in offense against syracuse.

One of the first plays of the game was a two-tailback triple option of some sort, wasn't it? He almost handed off to the first back (cam?), almost ran it on a QB keeper, finally ended up throwing it to the 2nd back. Unfortunately I think everyone could see that first fumble coming a mile away :(

The kid looked good. He's another quick, athletic skill position player.

It is interesting to read other fan forums, because they really have not watched us and still associate us with lacking team speed. This is the fastest ND team I have ever seen.

If we had more depth overall, we would be able to beat anybody. We're not there yet, but in the best of all world's Kelly will get us there and back to being where we deserve-the best college football team in the country.

Hopefully, the more Hunter plays, the faster he gets. I'm still a little on the fence if he'll have that explosiveness, just because of all the injuries. Though, he is a big strong kid.

Ed, you beat me to starting this thread. I love what Torri brings to the table. I believe he was the best receiver in the soph recruiting class. He is so smooth and has great hands and moves. But what about the receiving core as a whole?? You don't complete 25 straight passes without some pretty darn good receivers.

Color me also surprised at his size. He looks like a really smooth and natural athlete. His long arms and long legs reminds of me of a more fluid Davaris Daniels.

Very excited to see how he develops. Really pleased with the athletes that ND has on offense for now and the future. Lots of young guys that are top-flight athletes.

Excited for torii. He looks strong, athletic and capable. He had some nice sweeps that we haven't seen and the td was spectacular.

Can we get some links? Cuz that is hilarious. Obviously, they don't watch Notre Dame's games or are just stupid.

Thanks Faith. That was pretty awesome.

With Amir coming back I wonder if we could have a package with him and Torii on the field at the same time.

I know that you guys think this thread should be about THJ and the surprise of how big he actually is, but can we focus on the real surprise from this weekend?

Corey Robinson's hair?

I mean, look at this dad, and then look at him with his helmet off. I had to check information on the program because I thought it had flipped to a broadcast of Demolition Man or something.

This might be the single dumbest thing I've ever read

 I think that Shafer really hit it on the head

I’m not convinced that Notre Dame was the better team. They just clearly had superior talent. I mean, look at the long TD by Fuller as an example. It reminded me of the long TD play by Sammy Watkins last season. Nothing happened other than Fuller just straight up ran faster than the dude covering him. Sure, maybe the scheme should have had safety help over the top. But it really came down to the fact that the WR will likely be playing on Sunday soon and the DB won’t. And the same holds true for the Irish D. Not a ton of mistakes made by the Orange offense. Just better talent on the other side of the ball, stuffing the run game and forcing Hunt to beat them with his arm. Though, I will say, I don’t know why they didn’t call more designed runs or zone read options for Hunt. ND was so keyed in on stopping the RBs, they were susceptible to QB keepers. Maybe McDonald called them and Hunt made the wrong read. Maybe the Irish D was just that good and made great plays. I just feel that Hunt could have run on them like he did against MD, and didn’t.

As for Golson, am I the only one who thinks he’s not really all that much better than Terrell Hunt? Even taking into account threatening to break the mark for consecutive completions, look at how he did it. At least 15 of them were on those bubble screens. Hunt may struggle with accuracy, but even he could complete a bunch in a row if that’s all he has to throw. Syracuse just can’t run those plays because their WRs couldn’t block their way out of a wet paper bag with scissors in their hands.

And, speaking of bubble screens. I know I harp on this after pretty much every game…but it’s a problem every game. Why are the Orange still getting gouged by this play? The defensive scheme is obviously flawed. You can’t leave a guy uncovered like that in order to apply pressure, especially when the blitzers are never within 6 feet of the QB when the ball is thrown. Sure, credit Golson for making the read and getting the ball out quick. But, game after game, it’s been shown that the players Shafer currently has don’t have the speed to get to the QB in time unless he totally blows the read. So, to me, you need to do one of two things. One, blitz someplace else. When SU got to Golson, it was up the middle. If you’re getting burned blitzing from the edge….STOP BLITZING FROM THE GODDAMNED EDGE! Two, show the pressure and, instead of charging toward the QB, jump that throw and try to pick it off. Be a football player and make your own read. I mean, ****, you know where the ball is going. What’s the worst that could happen? You end up missing the ball and are behind the play? It’s no worse not getting to the QB in time. If anything, it’s better, because you have a clearer path back to the receiver to get back into the play.

All that being said, I’m not horribly disappointed with the result. The Orange did pretty much everything they had to do to win. They made very few mistakes, forced ND into a ton of them. You’re not gonna beat a more talented team, though, if you can’t convert those mistakes into touchdowns. I tend to agree with Schafer that, despite the lopsided score, this is one of those "you learn more from your losses" situations and the Orange will end up better for it. So long as they get their heads out of their asses on screen plays.

His first paragraph is especially dumb. The rest is just ignorance toward ND's football team and mostly Golson.

Some other comments labeled Golson as "not that special" as well.

Corey really had a great game and maybe the hair had something to do with it. This receiving core mirrors our defense, they are both developing very fast.

God I love that video. It's awesome to see how much this team treats one another and how excited they were for THJ after injuries cost him last year and the first three games this year. "I love you too coach", just can't get enough of this video.
