Won't see the game until tomorrow so I'll post this now.

Frowny faces= running game.

If you can't run on michigan... Eh. If you can't run on Purdue, after not being able to run on michigan... Cause for worry.

Gold stars:

Corey Robinson.

Greg Bryant.

Everett.

Thought Tranquill did a decent job as an emergency safety.

Frowny faces:

The OL in general. Less than great run and pass blocking.

Koyack has a ways to go to be the "next great Irish TE".

More depth depleted.

The first half defense. They were flatter than my 1st wife's backside.

I'm sure BK had a frowny face, certainly at halftime.

With BK as our head coach, you can kiss goodbye the lineage of great TEs.

That's an absurd statement. Rudolph? Eiffert? Nicklas? Those are the 3 starting tight ends in the Kelly era and they are all in the NFL.

Did he recruit ANY of those guys to play in his system?

The answer to that my friend is a big resounding NOPE.

Eifert was utilized as a WR in many instances.

My point was that his system is not going to utilizie the traditional TE that we're used to seeing... Fasano, Carlson, Rudolph, and etc..

Not a knock on BK's coaching abilities just that his system's don't really feature TE's or HBacks like more of a pro style would.

yep---- Nicklas & Eifert showed how much pop the TE position can have, the fact that Koyack is not getting it done is much less a BKs offense problem then it is a Koyack problem--he simply can't get open like the other two--I think we may see some Smythe soon.

That's another thread though

Gold Stars--

Devon Butler--- came in cold & did great

Joe Shmidt--- the middle was not a problem and the second half pick and overall second half shutout gets him some credit

Silver Stars

Golson--a little flat and missing Carlisle a lot he still got the Tds we needed and no INTs--pretty good for his weaker performance'

Jaylon---always making plays even though like the rest of the defense he struggled

BVG---NICE HAFTIME ADUSTMENTs to get that shut out even short handed

SILVER PLATED STARS

Koyack---just doesn't get it done at all---ZZZZZZZZZ

The OLINE---really beaten most of the game by a second rate Purdue defense---Golsons quick release and escapability made it better then it could have been--with a Tommy back there we likely get BEAT because of loing the LOS.

I get a gold star. I'm drunk and special. My pork is good too, lol.

BK recruited Niklas.

Missed the game last night but watching it now. Through 3 games it looks like our biggest weakness is our OL in the run game. Going into the season I would have said that's our biggest strength. Hopefully they can gel over the bye week, but overall I'm not real concerned. Teams always have a let down after big wins. Look at USC and VT. He'll even Oregon struggled in the first half against Wyoming. If we struggle with Syracuse after a bye week then we might have a problem.

I like the analysis.

Butler was a tremendous surprise. Great job.

I was not as pleased with Riggs' play as I had been in the first two games. That's just football I guess.

Loved BVG's adjustments, whatever they were.

Did you see this Kelly quote..

Brian Kelly on freshman safety Drue Tranquill: "He did great. He doesn't know what he's doing, but he's awesome."

Frowny - fuller's continuing to bobble balls. Had an excellent reviewed catch, but other than that, he worries me

This makes no sense. Smythe and Weishar are both traditional TEs. Niklas was a defensive player that Kelly switched, and it worked out great. Eifert in 2012 was the leading receiver and an All-American under Kelly.

Gold Stars:

Robinson

Butler

Prosise

Frowny Faces:

O-Line

Lack of team energy

Koyack

And have those kids been drafted yet? Have they shown us anything other than a flashy recruit ranking?

BK recruited Niklas.

Yes he did, but what you've failed to mention is that he came in on defense.

Are we finally finished waiting on Koyack?

This. Wasn't he a 5 star kid? I mean, he's serviceable, but in no way should he be mentioned in the hushed tones of Tight End U. He'll probably get drafted on day 2 or 3.

I have been just as guilty as the next guy waiting for him. After game 3 of his final year, my hope is gone. He's good enough to help, but in no way a game changer.

Gold Stars:

Hey, did anyone see that Doctor Who episode last night?

Frowny Face.

CBK.

We probably shouldn't worry about landing any stud running backs in the future. kelly don't know what to do with them. I don't blame the oline either because these backs shouldn't need an All Pro line to have a decent game. Clearly Kelly doesn't put much thought into the running game. He don't care enough to even list a depth chart. Those 3 backs aren't all equal.

to me it's dumb to just switch them out on each possession. TF is not a good blocker and is the weakest of the 3 running inside. He should NOT be in the game on 3rd and short no matter if it's his turn in the rotation or not.

it's either funny or sad that the media is calling the defense BVG's defense. Kelly is being overshadowed by his own hire.

My question is why the hate on Koyack? because of the fumble? Peterson has numerous fumbles to his name, is he a bust?

I thought Koyack played fine, was he great and a future 1st round draft pick? no, but he was solid. I dont understand why Koyack is getting a frowny face. He had 5 catches, its not like he didnt do anything... I think people will hate on Koyack because they expect him to match Eifert, Rudolph, and Niklas.
