Don't want to be a downer but that was our rushing total for the game

Is this as bad as it looks?

Nope. Even coach said if Michigan wants to play with 6-7 guys in the box the majority of the game, we'll oblige them and pass. ND simply took what Michigan was giving them and kicked their *** doing it.

We should recognize ND's ability to do either effectively. What a difference it makes to have Golson at QB, huh?? Golson had negative rushing yards and still had a stellar performance.

Guys, I can remember a handful of players I would consider "special" in my 41 years. Rocket, Tim Brown, Michael Floyd, Justin Tuck, Pinkett, Bettis. Golson has the potential to make this list. He's that good. I believe this with my heart.

We really need to enjoy it while he's here because it will be over before we know it.

Furthermore, what about the defense stepping up tonight. My God. I can't remember the last time I saw ND play aggressive, swarm & attack football. BVG has me fired up.

This team has the potential to be very, very good for years to come. ;)

I saw 54 yards.

It is a little concerning, especially as they averaged only 1.7 yards per carry and never had any holes all game.

After Kelly's presser, I feel a little bit better about it. Ill have to re-watch the game and be a little bit more objective about it though. :p

I was quite disappointed with the running game, but at least BK didn't completely abandon it. Teams are going to have to respect Golson, which will only open up their running game down the road.

I wasn't too impressed with the run blocking.

Our RBs had to create something out of nothing many times.

That said, I'm more concerned about the dropped passes. The score could have been much higher but many critical balls that should have been caught with ease were not caught.

The only two drives that stalled in the first half were because of balls being dropped that should have been caught. Catch those balls and who knows, maybe 35-0 at the half.

I posted this in another thread, but I am not concerned about the running game after 1 game. I actually think Bryant looked good running, but didn't have anywhere to run. Michigan's front 7 played a good game in all honesty.

I saw 31 nothing.

Amen, The only stat that counts is the one on the scoreboard!!!

No need to worry about any other ones.

Michigan was committed to stopping the run by stacking the box like they have for the last few years. Cam got a few 1st downs and a TD.

Just about all of Golson`s passes were perfect. The receivers didn`t have to make circus catches and the timing could not have been better.

Also, he didn`t take a loss, he threw the ball away.

I hope the recruits like the game as much as I did.

Sorry, not sure where I got 67 yards...but yea, it was 55 yards

I don't know...I still don't feel particularly good about 55 yards rushing

Just looked up the 2012 game...we had like 50 fewer overall yards, and only about 90 yards rushing for 3.0 ypc

So I do feel a little better about 55 yards...for some reason..Michigan just keys in on our runs and puts 7-8 players in the box

Yeah, I hope Jamabo focused more on the final score than the lack of running yards.

I wasn't fond of the rushing attack either. Later in the game I was hoping that we'd be able to grind it out in typical BK fashion. But surprisingly with Golson making the passes we also had the ability to extend those late drives instead of 3 and out while running down the clock.

Mattison is a great DC IMO and his mindset was to stop the run, especially late because that's what BK does with a lead. If you stop that run and get Gardner and Funchess the ball, UM has a chance to stay in it. But since Golson and the offense were effective in the pass game, and our D was lights out, the door was slammed on UM's game plan through the whole game.

Apparently, Mattison wanted to stop the run and make Golson win with his arm. Oooookay, then.

The Gameday crew thought UM would drop 7-8, and try to make ND win with the ground attack. Terrible plan all around.

that's the pain about a true spread offense. A lot of times you have 5 blockers maybe 6 if you attach a TE

A defensive Coordinator of Mattison's experience is going to respond to that by rushing 6, 7, or 8

Case in point.

Screen to Carlisle invites the whole Michigan defense up field, Golson dunks it behind them to Amir for an easy TD

Now that does NOT count as a run but it was a way to respond to a loaded box.

I did see that Michigan was loading the box with 7-8 players...when the recievers actually caught the damn ball on those quick screens, it worked really well...a lot of drives stalled because receivers kept dropping balls

I've never seen so many dropped balls in one game

I just watched the first quarter again. On only 1 play did Michigan have more than 6 guys in the box.

When did they start stacking the box to stop the run?
