First of all, I'll step out on a limb and say as long as Kenny Hill doesn't fall off the bandwagon or get hurt that Golson won't win the Heisman. We'd need a minimum 11 win campaign for him with awesome stats.

I think it's feasible to get him to the ceremony this year. That could help in two ways: It could motivate him to come back next year, and it will help with recruiting tremendously..

I don't see any scenario where Golson does not come back next year. He will end up as a good to great college QB, but his talent will not demand a high draft pick at any point. He will stay and get his degree IMO.

Where is he academically? This should be his 6th semester, correct?

Did he pick up any credits that ND will accept from JUCO's in the offseason?

** I can see after having 7 semesters complete at end of year with the NFL calling, how it could be very tempting to go to NFL and come back in offseason to finish up degree.

Golson needs to take advantage of Heisman moments. Next week vs. Michigan will be one. If he has 4-5 TDs, the hype for him and the Heisman will be legit.

Golson NOWHERE near heisman status.

Honestly, he hasn't done jack crap because we played RICE.

Let's chat next weekend on this.

You cannot simply omit what he did in 2012. VOTERS decide the Heisman, and that season will not be forgotten. ;) Obviously the stats cannot be used, but it puts him in the conversation, period.

as has been pointed out before, Golson was no world-beater in 2012. he was very talented but didn't put up even close to Heisman type stats.

If he plays like he did vs. Rice in every game he will be in heisman race.

but right now, as I type this and you read this. he isn't close to winning the heisman. IMO

See how that changes you from an ahole to credible?

This is from March:

"Only five players have better odds on Bovada than Golson: Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston (5/2), Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota (5/1), Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller (11/2), Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty (10/1) and Georgia running back Todd Gurley (12/1)"

http://www.csnchicago.com/notre-dame/everett-golson-may-be-more-dark-horse-heisman

So .........

that is gambling. how are braxton's odds?

Heisman contenders:

Kenny Hill

Todd Guerly

Golson

Golson will play in 2015 and likely will go into next year as one of the Hiesman contenders.

Everett has an NFL arm & delivery---If he plays up to his ability he will get his chance in the league WHITFIELD saw EG as an NFL TALENT as well--Russell Wilson has opened the door WIDE OPEN for shorter QBs with mobility and great arms.

As far as 2014 goes---

Heisman is a fickle thing and just as hard if not HARDER to win then a NC---we have 11 NCs yet only 7 Heismans----

If GOLSON continues to light it up for the next five weeks he will be in a position to make a move----

So that's IF HE CONTINUES HIS STELLAR PLAY

AND IF WE GO TO TALAHASSEE UNBEATEN because the team needs success to stay in the hiesman picture

THEN GOLSON WILL GET HIS SHOT TO MAKE A CLEAR CASE AGAINST WINSTON!

THATS LOTS OF IFs

IF HE PLAYS STELLAR EVERY GAME

IF WE WIN EVERY GAME UNTIL FSU

Its not something to wager on that's for sure. But it is something to look forward to ---WINSTON vs GOLSON!

aloha's

Heisman contenders:

Kenny Hill

Todd Guerly

Golson

lol. seriously?

Hill torched top 10 team.

Gurley torched top 20 team.

Notre Dame torched what was barely a team.

Last 6 Heisman QBs averaged:

4262 yards total offense

47 total TDs

181.6 passer rating

Golson on pace for:

4032 total yards

60 total TDs

206.2 passer rating

I'd say he is right on pace.

Golson is capable enough to win it.

He just isn't even in the national conversation right now (especially among anyone with objective glasses on).

He hasn't done anything spectacular against any kind of tough competition. I hope he does to michigan what he did to Rice!

For Golson to be considered we have to go 11-1 or 12-0 and have serious consideration for the play-offs. He has to be healthy.

Heisman would be nice, but I'd be happier if the above happened first. This would do so much more for our program, and would help to prove that '12 wasn't a fluke, especially with this schedule.

Amazing! !!! It's only 1 week into the season. Let the next several weeks play out. Then you will have a better idea who has what.

I said a Heisman may be in the cards. I never said Golson was going to win it. I also never said he deserved it right now. So I don't understand the angle of your replies. Vegas said before the first game that he had a 20/1 chance to win it. Winston had 9/2 odds. That means Golson is a legitimate contender for the trophy with pre-season top-10 odds. If a linebacker can get 2nd place and we have a QB like Golson, then it's worth talking about.

Despite that, the point of this thread was to discuss what a Heisman Trophy would mean for the program when compared to a National Title. It was not to discuss whether or not Golson would win it. It was not to say that a win over Rice makes him the odds-on favorite. It's simply to say he has the potential and then discuss what it would mean for Notre Dame football as a program.

Therefore: :focus: please

Sorry. My segway was hypothetical, but I meant that for all intensive purposes, a seat at the ceremony (top 5 finalist) would almost as much from a recruiting standpoint. We'll start getting more 5* standout interest like Greg Bryant..

Beat Michigan.

Seriously, NOTHING else matters at this point and EVERYTHING is lost if you do not Beat Michigan.

No Playoffs (an admittedly long shot to begin with)

No Heisman (lose to the Skunkbears and the discussion is over)

No Bragging Rights in perpetuity....which is the #1 reason that the ONLY thing to be concerned with this week is:

BEAT MICHIGAN!

Of the 10 voters on the informal ESPN Heisman poll, 2 have Golson in 5th place, which puts him in 8th place overall.

So just that one game against Rice generated some buzz. A good showing this weekend, and he will be in the discussion. Good games until FSU and he'd have a chance to leave Tallahassee the front runner.

gaining a nice head of steam.

and two games to put up stats before big showdown with stanford.

Also, Kelly endorsed Golson for Heisman when asked the question. It was more of why not? Go for it.. type of endorsement.
