I have concerns. Like to hear the more positive people's views.

Did it seem at all like there was a lack of open receivers, despite some of the bigger gains and 300 yards passing (I might need to go watch the game again)?

And does it seem that our offense still labors to get the points they do? I mean I'm watching the OU v. Louisiana Tech game and maybe LT is not as good as Rice, but OU just makes it look like it's so easy. They look faster. I just use this game as an example but I've seen it in some other games too.

Yes, without Golson today, this game is probably somewhere in the 21-17 range. I hope people realized today how crucial Golson was to ND's offense and last year would have been way different with him at the helm.

Golson was very important but we have a good backup, we are very good at the most important position which is what we lacked with Rees.

Agree with the OP, at times we just make it look too hard, I'm not too worried though as we were missing some guys and it was game one. We're gonna win atleast ten games but we need those guys back.

If you think that the coaches showed all aspects of either the offense or the defense against Rice, the week before we play Michigan....

.... let's agree to disagree.

Then don't be a negative Nancy. It was the first game. Be happy they dominated a game they were supposed to dominate. Be happy there were only 2 penalties - both snap infractions. Be happy a lot of backups got playing time. Be happy had a very good return after 600 days. Be happy all 3 running backs showed flashes of brilliance. Be happy this wasn't a UCF repeat. Geez, you get 12 weeks of college football out of 52 in the year. Be happy you get to spend the next week thinking about a WIN. If you're this negative after a win like this, how are you the other weeks of the year?

I love you. Exactly. Could have been better with execution. The right side of the line needs to get better. The middle and back end of the D needs to do better. Rochelle needs to lose some weight and getter better conditioned, Ben needs to feel dominant. But good win. Good showing for EG and the backs.

Just want to say this. In the first half we saw Prosise drop an easy TD and a easy FG missed. had those happened it would have been 58 on the board.. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

AND NO TURNOVERS! Wrap your loving arms around that.

My thoughts as well. Hoping Van Gorder blitzes more to mitigate that. All in all, it's evident that #17 pre-season ranking was way off. Clearly, this is a top 10 team.

Uh no...... But your opinion.

Wouldn't say clearly, but I do think this team has the makings of a top 10 team.

If we get back Ishaq, Russell and DD, and don't catch the injury bug, this is a top ten team.

Not now. But if and candy nuts... We get KR and DD back ... Then I would be optimistic with you. It was Rice. Keep your perspective

I feel a whole lot better about this team after 1 game than I did about last year's team after 1 game.

So much more fun to watch this quarterback than the last one.

I'm glad ND had Tommy, given the choices, but with Golson the offense is just fun to watch.

I think the offense has the potential right now to keep us in any game. We haven't had such a high powered offense with such good skill position players since 2005. I think it will really come down to the defense & I'm fairly confident that with KR & Ishaq it will be good enough. Without, we may drop a game we shouldn't.

We agree. I have always felt the offense needs to carry the team this year. This game proved it. We need KR and IW to make that a bit easier to a 9-3 regular season record. maybe 10 with a lucky break or 2

No it's not. We are very thin at defensive line. I looked at Blankenship during warmups, who is being forced to play when he should be redshirted. He's skinny as a Tight End and was pushed around 10 yards by Rice's tackles. Top 10 teams don't have guys like that in the rotation. Ditto our Free Safety, None of them are any good. Top 10 teams don't have slow, unathletic safeties.

Our offense is Top 10, but our defense is not and will result in some losses down the road.

Not sure if we agree entirely, I think the floor of the team as constituted is 9-3, but could potentially do better with either certain players coming along or luck. With the suspended players, this team's floor is 10-2 with the playoff being very possible. So I think we're just on the outside of the top ten as is, but potentially better. If the players return, we're definitely top 10 and potentially top 5.

Today I just watched UCLA struggle to beat a terrible Virginia team, FSU barely beat OSU [and needing some luck to do it], Alabama struggle until the last quarter to put away WV... The best team I saw today was Georgia. I don't think it is far fetched that we're potentially a top ten team as is.

It looks effortless.

I didn't get to see OU, wasn't it pay per view. But who in the H E double L did they play?? Sorry, but that is a high school team. We will never schedule a school like that. In the end they put up the same number of points that we did but we dropped two touchdown passes and missed a field goal. Color me very pleased.

It seems to me like Kelly wants an offense that can be good at everything, which is fine, but Id rather be great at a few things than good at everything.

Kelly, Kelly, Kelly.....we get it dude. You're like a broken record.
