Not sure who it is but the investigation is concluded and they are holding another (unknown) player out of competition. Per Sportsbeat 960 just now. They said the investigation is done though but no other info than that.

The University is going to "hold out" anyone with a hint of guilt. They may be cleared later but caution is the key here. If one of those five is found guilty and plays, win vacated. Far better to hold back the entire first unit until this is cleared up. Whoever is back in time for week 2 is an early Christmas present.

Personally, I could give two squirts of **** about how "virtuous" any athlete is. The only reason you're interested in this kid AT ALL is because he is exceptionally talented (no Bruce, not you) so just keep your interest and personal investment on the field.

Who is "you" here?

And it's certainly not too much to ask that our players be talented AND high in character. Your philosophy might make a better fit in Baton Rouge or Columbus.

This makes sense, except, practices can't be vacated, so why aren't they practicing, in team meetings, etc? They are being held out of everything except they can apparently still go to the Gug.

I think as of now they are technically only "grant in aid" athletes.

I'm not sure if they are "technically" part of the football team right now but they still maintain their scholarships and the perks that come with it.

now the Gug is not specific to just the football team. so as student-athletes, those five can use the facilities.

"The Guglielmino Complex serves an important role in the development of all 26 Notre Dame varsity sports, in addition to providing the football team with one of the most remarkable facilities in the nation."

I'd say like 75% of my friends that I graduated ND with feel this way.

ND academic probe over, hearing/decision imminent, believe some cleared. ND heard, investigated, held players out, acted. Scandal? No. . .

Heavy hitter at least

75 percent of your friends who graduated ND want to share their small campus with rapists? Arsonists? Thieves?

I am sure that most of the campus can overlook certain academic leeway that the players may or may not get, but I think it would be folly to say they give less than two squirts of anything about the athletes' virtuousness.

He goes on to say we could hear today or early next week.

My guess is it'll come today...they'll want to be able to provide some answers for tomorrow's broadcast...

Do you think the team already knows the outcome? Obviously the players in question must. I think that if the news was bad it would be rather deflating to have the news out right before game 1. I guess there is no real good time for bad news regardless.

I would hazard a guess it is higher than 75%. The integrity of the ND degree is paramount to those of us who hold one. While it may seem to others that we are being elitist that is not the case. We are jealously guarding the brand and want only to have high quality persons associated with it.

No, I meant 75% of the people I graduated with feel the same way that I feel. you'd be the other 25%.

That is indeed unfortunate.

I don't have an ND degree but I am firmly in your camp, Wilhelm.

Did ND always used to be so hoity-toity? My recollection as a child was it being a blue collar sort if school, where anyone who worked hard was allowed.

Did that change or do I have a bad memory?
