He did not say "its over". He said since the students are back on campus, everything should move quickly.

But I did just give a great demonstration of the perils of running with something without vetting it. No matter how good it sounded.

If I can give my own opinion/theory on the matter. I personally believe we won't know till Sunday or Monday after we torch Rice if these guys come back. They were going to miss a game regardless of guilty or not just for being linked. ND's high standards were going to make sure of that. Repetitive and boring but seems like the most logical answer. Wait it out fellas.

I was feeling good about our team until hearing BK today. He sounds legitimately worried about the defense. I guess I still am too. If Ishaq and Russell don't get back in time for the big games we could be looking at 3-4 losses instead of 1-2.

BK was asked on a scale of 1-10 his confidence in the team and he said "7"...

yup... although he did say that his confidence meter could go up throughout the year as the team gets better.

I think he's trying to be realistic about the young defense. I'm calling 3 losses with the young defense and the suspended players... optimism will rise if we get russell and williams back.

Here is a youtube of the interview. You might need to watch on your iphone or ipad. This didn't load on my desktop.

I'll keep on saying this. None of the players lost are game changers. How many sacks did Ishaq have? Have many interceptions did Russell have? Russell had one interception last season... in the last game... against Rutgers.... when their RB was throwing the ball.

+1 totally agree

I respectfully disagree in that changing the chemistry of the starting lineup is in and of itself a game changer. These guys have fought a battle for their starting spots and have prevailed through will or skill. Either way they were in some way able to beat out their counterparts.

Taking that out of the formula changes the game. You either have less competitive or less skilled replacements.

Thanks JT for posting this.

I thought the same thing until I watched some re-runs this week. Keivarae's play recognition and closing ability are 2nd to none in our defensive backfield last year(Cole Luke, Eilar Hardy, Jackson, Shumate, and Farley).

I think evaluating defensive players is more difficult especially if you don't know the scope of what they're asked to do.

I think he is a pretty good tackler given the fact he was suppose to play offense(RB).

Devaris is a dynamic threat, and we will definitely miss his talents. I'm hoping Corey Robinson will fill in his shoes as a possession WR, but Devaris is a possession receiver than can burn you as well.

Ya, I think some scouts would disagree with you about KR and DD.

If this program can't replace a 1 INT CB with nominal impact (impact that does not decide the outcome of a game), he have major problems.

WHO? Name me one top corner that had 1 INT starting the season prior.

I know you are intelligent enough to realize INT's is not the only measuring stick of a corner back.. especially in Diaco's bend but don't break "no crease" defense.

I think you have dramatically oversimplified the issue, not sure if that is for the purpose of making yourself feel better or if you genuinely think that all of those four players being lost boils down to simply "a 1 INT CB with nominal impact."

It seems a little short sighted to me. I don't think the world is coming to an end, but I think to minimize the impact of those players is like not being upset when you have to trade in your sports car for a minivan.

Wow, this post baffles me. Russell is considered one of the top corners in the nation. INT do not mean everything. If you honestly think Russell is only average because he has 1 INT, then you really over-simplify things and thank god you are not a talent scout, the team you work for would be screwed for years after you are fired.

Russell is an elite corner (will probably leave early for the NFL)

Davaris Daniels is our best WR and will also leave early for the NFL

Ishaq was simply a starter and it hurts to lose a starter, but I agree he is not "irreplaceable."

Moore, meh who cares...

But seriously, saying DD and Russell are not that good is laughable...

All this Russell is elite is baffling. OK, Russell is not going to the pros after this season. Nor is Daniels. I guess I need to put that a different way. They will not be on an NFL team next season. I suppose they could jump like GAIII but we saw how smart that was.

If you are a corner who starts and plays a ton, if you are elite, you get interceptions. I am not saying that is the end all be all. That MOST DEFINITELY an important number. If you are DE, sacks are a number people look at. You can't get 1 sack and be elite. Similar, you can't get 0 interceptions from a QB can think you are leaving early for the NFL.

Again... not saying the guy sucks but I don't think he is a difference maker.

Deion had 4 or 5 NFL seasons with only 2 INTs per year.

Ya, there's not much more to say here. KR is a top talent corner and he is only going to get better with more experience back there. Teams kill for a shut down corner and I think he has that potential to be just that.

DD has the talent and seemed to hit his stride with Golson. They will both be sorely missed if they don't return.
