The only things I've seen:

DL - Covington - 6'3. 300# -- 11.5 TFL

Kid looks about 6'1 - long arms, separates well, but he stands up and ball searches too much a poor man's Ian Williams...if the Notre Dame offense can push tempo, he will wear down and become less effective. First game of the season - So, as a cynical o-lineman - fat dtackles were great to open the year with because they never showed up in shape and quit for big stretches during games especially in the humid indiana sun...

Add to the mix his partner Moonchiff is out for the start of the season giving a more raw rotation on the line could open up the screen and draw game which would allow a mobile QB to throw short rhythm passes early and open some major interior running lanes...advantage Irish

RB - Dillard - 5'10. 205# -- 395 yards rushing

His older brother was a damn fine receiver and kid brother has some game too. Good hands, thick chest and quick feet...Catches the ball well out of the backfield - Could be a tough matchup for Scmidt or inexperienced Morgan on a wheel route. Reminds me of a young Theo Riddick

Offensive line is undersized and uses a quick strike passing game which will challenge Jaylon and Onwualu to shut down the quick slant... Indiana Hoosier and Ball State fans will remember Billy Lynch - The Muncie native brings a tempo and attack mentality to his offense.

A mobile quarterback early in the season is never what I want to face...unless he has minimal experience and you can get him rattled...Something tells me we aren't going to tackle well. Too many new bodies to think somebody won't be hugging air.

Special teams will be interesting and if notre dame can get a turnover or score on special teams, this could be a comfortable win.

Anybody know much else ?

Brian Kelly is our coach so it will be a nail biter I'm sure. One thing a Kelly coached team is good at is playing down to the opponent.

28-24. Just hope it's not USF all over again.

27-14 Irish...

Inevitably they find a way to keep it close into the third quarter, but a couple long run orientated drives chew clock and an opportunistic defense gets a late turnover to secure a win...

I will wait until Thursday to predict a 40 point blowout...

I don't have that type of cool aid left. Kelly ripped it from me.lol. I just hope we win it otherwise it would lead to a disastrous season.

I only found one Rice message board and they seem stoked about their team and assume it will be a good game. http://csnbbs.com/forum-444.html

I miss the days when these games were gimmes .

Jeez after reading this I have a feeling we're going to somehow make this go down till the end. I have a feeling their qb has a career day and we somehow make him look like an all american.

I fully expect us to score lots of points, our offense is just too damn good.

I don't know about you guys but I have a bad feeling about this defense, I think all 3 levels have glaring weaknesses and teams will exploit them. I hope I'm wrong but I think they will be tough to watch.

We will give up lots of yards forsure but we have to bank on forcing lots of turnovers.

With our offense this game is a gimmee. I see a minimum of 40 points and some big plays by our linebackers. Rice has been winning a lot but they are in a rebuilding mode which includes the quarterback. I don't think they can stop us defensively. will be a fun game to watch as we speed up the pace.

No offense Oklahoma but that been said a LOT that such n such game is a gimme and what usually happens?

I will tell you what we know about RICE...it is one hell of a side dish.

We are better at every position.

Also, there should not be fumbles or interceptions in the red zone. And you will not see a stacked box.

BTW, I don`t remember Kelly turning the ball over or audibling to a 40 yard pass on a 3rd and one. It wasn`t Kelly who kept the score close or losing to teams that should have been won.

Irish 45-6.

With that attitude we should never have fired Willingham.

Pretty sure Willingham didn't either or Weis.

I think it'll be a close game because

more times than not that's how it goes.

time and time again BK lets teams hang around.

you can use whatever excuse you want

(I blame the play calling as to why it happens)

hope the play calling is more aggressive but since 2010

under BK this offense has been consistently underwhelming.

Underwhelming is putting it nicely.

This game won't be close, something like 52 - 10. The days of playing it close to the vest are over my friends.

I hope so but I've been hoping for that since BK arrived.

Put the blame where it belongs.

Play calling? We don`t know what plays were called because Tommy changed most of them.

With your attitude is what I saying is coaches shouldn't be held accountable tor the team mistakes. So no one should have been fired before because the players didn't fulfill what DaviWillWeis instructed their players to do. That thought can't only be for Kelly, it needs to be applied to all coaches then if that's the criteria

Don't want to argue about this, not a big deal .

This offense has never stepped foot on a football field so we can't compare them to years past. This is the most explosive and complete unit we have fielded in Brian Kelly's tenure. Anything short of 40 is depressing.

They're a good but not great team which is basically what ND has been for most of BK's tenure so I wouldn't sleep on them. Forget the name of the school, forget 2012 and forget the tradition of winning.

They should be an easy win but it seems ND has been playing down to the level of their competition for years now. We've beaten teams that nobody expected us to beat and struggled with teams that should have been a cakewalk.

Consistency, that's all I expect from any team that I follow and ND has been anything but consistent. It's been maddening at times.

I won't look past any team on the schedule until there are solid performances in all three phases of the game on a consistent basis.

Put the blame where it belongs.

Since the coach gave him the option to do that, it's still on the coach. If Kelly didn't want the plays changed, he'd have told Rees to stop changing the plays. Pretty simple.

As for Rice, ND should control both lines, the ground game should get 250+, Golson will hit a few big throws and it shouldn't be terribly close.

Yep - ESPN will be talking about our offense and new found running game.

The team needs to bring it though. They need the attitude to just run it down their throat and no letting up.
