Kelly was talking about Luatua and exactly what you had mentioned in a previous thread as our H back/fullback, running down hill, physicality. You nailed it Faith.

I have been watching Kelly since he started in these camps. He doesn't sound too happy about the team. Very few people he is up on. I just felt like he has a more frustrated mood than in years passed.

Maybe he is holding his cards because he knows he has a winning hand ?!?

A few observations I've noticed after the first week in the limited time we get to see.

The Good:

1. CJ Prosise has REALLY impressed me with his route running. I expect a big year from him.

2. Sounds like Chris Brown has been our #1 receiver to this point. Needless to say, we've got a ton of playmakers at WR.

3. The corners are being very physical, in particular Riggs. This is a departure from recent years and reminds me of MSU. Anyone want to argue about future Pass Interference calls?

The Not So Good:

1. Farley and Collinsworth seem to be constantly out of position and not overly athletic. At some point, knowing the defense the best has to give way to better overall playmakers.

2. Super nervous about our rush defense. Yikes.

I absolutely agree with the first three points but I think Farley is more athletic than you give him credit for. I watched the 2012 game against uSC and he played extremely well. Came on a couple blitzes and nailed them.

Farley is fairly athletic just not a very good football player. The reason he never got exposed much in 2012 was that incredible defense he had infront of him. Safeties are going to be very important this year and if he or Collingsworth see the field we're in trouble.

On another note I can just tell from watching these films we have a very good team. I know it's hard to get a sense of how good you are until you go against another team but the depth is amazing, and you see some young guys stepping up.

I think he's frustrated with a few key guys in particular DaVaris Daniels.

He made Daniels do a drill 4 times in one particular practice video. Now he's got a groin pull and of course Hunter JR got a groin tear

Not happy that the O-line is not nailed yet. Elmer playing tackle, "like a Guard"

Unhappy that Folston is content with sharing carries

.

Unhappy that Bryant is not trusting the blocking scheme and setting up blocks, rather cutting back to much ala GAIII

Typical coach frustrations, hope he feels better next week..

He's got a lot of talent, Its just young and driving him nuts..

Greg Bryant is a flat out stud.

The next guy Farley and Collingsworth guard this fall will be their first. If they are on the field a lot, ND is in trouble.

Ishaq is going to get 10+ sacks this year.

We have two lock down corners.

To me Daniels looks lazy, he always gave up on interceptions he could have prevented. I just get a bad vibe from his body language in practice even. Brent is every bit as gifted as him but has a much better work ethic by the looks of it.

The other legit concern here is the offensive line, the d-line has had their way with them by the looks of it.

Agreed Cory, but who's the second corner Riggs or Luke? I think both are great.

Both look good, but I think Riggs will be better this year with his experience. Luke may be better long term with his size and length.

Any DB who started on a top tier SEC defense can start for my team any day.

Ishaq is going to get 10+ sacks this year.
Really? That's quite a prediction considering he barely has 1 sack his ND career. Sure hope you're correct here my friend.

True, but he has been playing the wrong spot for three years. A 6'5" 260 Ayer doesn't belong as a nickel LB roaming the middle if the field.

After reading some articles I have a bad feeling we will see Collingsworth start beside Redfield. I'm starting to think Shumate is in Kelly's doghouse ala the Cierre Wood case.

This is going to endup costing us a game or two. I like Kelly but he's too stubborn with cases like this. I don't know if he has a bad attitude or if it was that time he got suspended for the Stanford game but he holds grudges on players it seems.

You'll have trouble beating teams like Michigan with Collingsworth and Farley back there let alone some of the big dogs from the SEC. Something Kelly can't seem to figure out yet.

Ed, I agree with corysold on this one. He is a superior athlete and finally has a chance to turn it loose. Big reason this defense may be better than everyone expects.

Feed me my crow Ishaq. I do recall him playing end some. I'd be surprised if gets 5 sacks this year. Would absolutely love to be wrong and see him get 10.

My money is on Okwara leading the team in sacks this year. Think him and Day have huge years.

Wow, all this from practice videos? Because I got the same exact impression. I know it's just practice, but I now feel Bryant is a better runningback than Folston. Wasn't so sure before camp.

Corners look great. Cole Luke is impressive. Russell is looking good, Cody Riggs is the star. As much as I want to like those two safeties I've seen them getting burned far too often.

Again, I know it's just practice and kne rep, but mcglinchey getting burned by trumbetti is enough to make me think one of the upperclassman needs to play guard and Elmer needs to sharpen up his tackle play. They tried the mcglinchey experiment all spring, Elmer needs time to reacclimate.

I just rewatched it since my man posted it twice. Faith, I see what you did there - wanted us all to take a second look.

I'll add that trumbetti looks good. Haven't heard much about him, I remember at the hs all American game they said he needed to add strength, but 8 months later he looks plenty strong and fast out there to me. Didn't see who it was but managed to push someone over backwards with one arm.

its was actually to give it a bump(to the top of the thread list) when I added the practice report, und.com posted the media session first, I started the thread and about 20 minutes later as always they post the practice report. Sorry:) but also you really do need two views to take it all in..

I'm starting to think Trumbetti plays pretty significantly this year especially if Ishaq doesn't come through. Just think this guy is a flat out player and sounds like a very hard worker. Getting more excited about him the more I hear about him. Would not surprise me one bit if him and Okwara are the future at ends. Johnny Williams is impressing also in pass rushing. One way or another, BVG will play the most effective kids. This is a very sensitive unit that warrants the right kids playing their best in the right formations. We need 1-2 kids, at least, to step up this year that we weren't expecting.
