Can't post all of this tonight but wanted to start it. We have some meaningful weight gains. Some of the freshmen lost a couple inches in their reported height. Let's start with...

1. Jaylon Smith +5 to 235. I love this. some of you moaned he was too light for a middle backer. Well, he didn't gain 20 lbs by eating fried chicken. He gained 5 lbs. of pure gristle. Two hundred and thirty five pounds with that speed is very impressive. He is cautious not to lose a bit of that speed. His improvement from last year is going to be astronomical. Expect an All American type year. We are going to have a very good defense if Jaylon stays healthy.

2. Chris Brown ~~ +4 to 195. Again, a superior speed merchant that gains pure muscle. He was a skinny rail when he arrived and now he is a strapping lethal weapon. That added muscle makes a huge difference for a wide receiver. Big year for Brown ~~ our number one receiver.. Look for a big game against Florida State. He could be the best receiver on the field. A lot can change in one year.

3. Chase Hounschell +4 to 275. Yeah that's not a lot of weight gain, but he hasn't gained a pound in three years. This is significant in that it shows he is working out. He was effective as a true freshman. Please stay healthy, this is a major piece to the puzzle.

4. Max Redfield +4 to 198. Add 4 more pounds to the equation when he smacks you in the face with a full head of steam. Muscle just makes you feel more confident and invincible. Max has a long way to go and at some point this season he will start making plays. It's going to be really exciting. I don't remember a 5 star at the safety position for Notre Dame. You have to go way back to Bobby Taylor to find a better athlete.

5. Jacob Matuska +4 to 289. Not sure what to expect here, but I heard he had a burst coming off the edge. He's pretty big, pretty big and hopefully explosive. Best news here is that he has 4 years of eligibility. We have so much to learn when the season starts.

6. Mike McGlinchey +10 to 310. This is exactly what I predicted in an earlier thread, but I thought it would lead to him getting the starting nod. Now I am not so sure. Quenton Nelson throws a monkey wrench into those plans. He may star and move Elmer to right tackle. Never the less, McGlinchey is a superior talent and will get up to about 335 before he is done. Serious skills including tight end ability. He will play. Probably the first back up at right tackle.

7. Corey Robinson +10 and up to 215. Perfect. He's getting bigger and stronger. He's the coaches darling. Huge catch radius and strong hands. This will be a break out year for him. Chris Brown may start out with the ones but Corey will get his due. He is more consistent then Chris. I look for him to be the starter at some point. So much quality depth.

8. Devin Butler +14 and up to 195. WOW!! People forget about him because he was injured, but this is a quality player. I remember when he got his 4th star as I had a thread about him being under rated. I think he could play safety but he will be incredibly important next year when we lose 2 corners. This is huge.

9. Jarron Jones +5 to 315. Nice!! He's already big and has transformed his body. Took off the bad weight and on with the good. Don't be surprised if he becomes as good as Nix. He has tremendous length to block kicks and deflect passes. Defense takes a step up this year if these guys stay healthy.

10. Will Fuller +9 to 180. Speed receiver is in the hunt with the added muscle. Hope he makes BlackIrish proud as long as he doesn't out perform my boy Corey Robinson. Not much chance in that though!!

More on this tomorrow including the freshmen. Feel free to add anything you know.

11. James Onawaulu +5 to 220. To me that is discouraging as the coaches wanted him around 235. I thought that might be unattainable and maybe it was.

12. Amir Carlisle +5 to 190. That's a good size for Amir. Like where he is.

12. Joe Schmidt +5 to 230. He is doing everything to keep his position. Coaches are higher on him than the fans.

On a down note Jhonny Williams and Blankenship lost 2 inches to come in at 6' 4''. With Blankenship especially it is sad as they were raving about his height.

Daniel Cage lost 2 1/2'' but gained 50 pounds. Yikes!!!

Nobodys hitting this thread so I won't finish it, but wanted to show the advancements these kids have made.

Thanks for the updates Okie. The added weight on Butler impressed me the most. I have always liked him, and thought he did a good job in limited time last year.

Keep em coming Okie. Great info. Definitely disappointing about the height but hopfully Blankenship can makeup for it with long arms.

Jhonny Williams looks every bit of 6'5" next to Jarron in the photos coming out today. Also reporters commented on his height, saying he looked easy 6'5" when they were next to him and were surprised by the listing. Also he is thicker in his legs than I expected, looks great size wise. EDIT: reporter said today J. Williams is shorter than recruiting sites listed. HA.

The good news is Jhonny Williams is substantially bigger than when I first saw him. He has gone from 230 to 252. He looked very tall in the videos and seemed to be shot out of a cannon. He's a player. Not what I had envisioned as I was seeing something a bit similar to Aaron Lynch. He hadn't played a lot of football and his upside is still humongous, but he won't be built into a 5 star stud, 4 star??? Yeah, I can sure see that. Kelly found another gem.

How a player looks, how tall he is and how he fills out his uniform doesn't excite me so much. What he does between the lines does. Not meant as a slight to anyone. Just these discussions about height and weight and leg size is tiresome and really just fodder for a starving fan base. I get it I guess since there isn't much else to consider about the team at this point other than that. We have 25 more days of speculation, dissection of the new uniforms, critique of coaching success both real and perceived, projections of player success, overly zealous posts about the perceived talents of players and bashing douchey posters before we have something more substantial to debate weekly. Oh... And 25 days to get your personal life in order for Saturdays of heavy drinking, yelling at the tv and self induced comas.

I totally disagree as I have been charting this for many years. It's pure physics. Increasing mass and velocity has a strong bearing on winning football games. Length has become ever so important when trying to reach a football at its apex or trying to reach a running back on the edge of your defense. We are building weapons and if you take Longo out of the equation we couldn't win 4 games this year.

There are hours and hours of excruciating work that goes into this. Quentin Nelson reaching 325 but not pudgy like a couple of our 325 pound freshmen is extremely exciting and guess what??? That probably translates into a starting position sooner rather than later.

These workouts don't just increase size and strength but with today's technology we actually increase the speed with resistance training. Kelly recruits a bunch of 3 star athletes but he is looking for a body size with a big upside in the weight room. Jhonny Williams is a prime example. Barely a three star athlete at 6' 4'' and 230 he is now up to 252 pounds after learning the ropes under Paul Longo. For those that don't appreciate all this effort into building these lethal weapons you are missing a huge part of football and how to win. Anyone that has lifted weights seriously knows that it not only transforms you physically but it does so mentally as well. You can hear some of the players talking about this in the current interviews.

As a group, our receivers are thicker and more athletic than I have ever seen them. It is the work in the weight room that makes Corey Robinson a serious threat. I have watched Chris Brown and DeVaris Daniels transform their skinny toothpick type bodies into real weapons and starting roles on our team. No way this happens without all the grueling workouts. Those that never played football just will not understand what it takes to compete.

I think you missed my point. But I am glad you are happy with the height and weight of the team.

How does it tabulate when you correlate weights and heights compared to chemtrail presence in Northern Indiana?

At least height/weight discussions are somewhat fact-based unlike most of the discussion from February through August...

Nobody "lost" any height, they are not hobbits ffs.

You just allowed yourself get carried away with false reporting on recruiting sites which is par for the course.

Well, what they do between the lines has a lot to do with our size, strength and speed. I've always enjoyed the training part of football.

It is rare that a player is a full two inches shorter than their reported heights. I did get fooled this year on two players, Jhonny Williams and Grant Blankenship but this thread is mostly about players already in the system and they are accurately measured and weighed and I reported on it. Don't worry, this will be the final year I do so.

Don't let them get to you okie, they don't account for everyone here.. I don't like to get too caught up in height and weight either but I still enjoyed the read.. I just don't get it, if you don't like what you're reading just stop reading!! Keep em coming okie

Height & Weight sure seem to be a BIG DEAL to Kelly & Staff --

aloha's

I for one loved reading this thread. Love to know where our guys stand physically. I hope you continue doing this Okie.

Fair enough... It was just my opinion scattered with sarcasm to emphasize how starved we all are for the season to begin. No offense meant Okie.

Oh shut up Okie;). You're gonna do it next year and you're gonna like it. That's how you roll.

I personally don't concern myself with player weight. But I appreciate you and those who post pics, links, videos, and info to our little corner of the web. So keep it up.

Your're probably right Davislove.:-?

OklahomaIrish: No, you didn't get fooled. Grant is a legit 6'6 - I'm sure UND profile will be corrected at some point. GUARROONTEEED!
