Cam McDaniel

Pre season, I predicted that Cam would be in the top two RBs this season and got laughed at by a few and a couple more said that he would never see the field.

Would the ones that said that he would never see the field, please step forward and admit that you were wrong this one time.

I don't recall anyone saying he wouldn't see playing time. There's an easy search function here at DD, so you should do the leg work and make sure it wasn't a debate on who would be the starter. The only valid reasons anyone would give for someone not seeing the field would be injury or extremely low recruit rankings (like Heggie).

But if you're just looking for a pat on the back, here ya go. *pat pat*

Is this your impersonation of Golden Tate running into the endzone from 30-yards out?

And Cam was more third string to start the season. But with consistency out of GAII and Carlise (dropped passes, fumbles, etc.) Cam got his chance and made the most of it. Kudos to him.

Cam moves the chains. He gives all he has EVERY play. He epitomizes RKG. I would have never guessed he would be ND's feature back. I really expected more out of GAIII and Amir. GAIII is definitely a situational back and could still be effective as a change of pace third down back. Amir, just hasn't impressed me. He's not as quick to the LOS as I thought and not quite as wiggly as I thought. Folston has good lateral movement, decent acceleration to the LOS and should carry the rock more. We didn't see enough out of Bryant to really figure anything out but my guess is he has more natural talent than Cam. I am a Cam fan. You can't ask for anything more from him. With that being said, I still hope Bryant and Folston take over next year to give more big play potential out of the position.

The top three for next year will be Bryant McDaniel and Folston. Maybe not in that order. JMO

With most teams loading the box, running hasn`t been easy. Next year should be much easier.

We only have to wait 9 months to find out.

I think it was Hawaii, that pre-season, pointed out that Tommy was going to be bad for the run game. He predicted 8 in the box on every play.

I think GA3 and Amir might have been the 1-2 with Golson.

Cam has toughness that cannot be taught. He is a gritty Texan that has proven his worth. He is my favorite player this year, but would have never thought that he would be pre-season.

Oh and btw, good for you for picking Cam. Don't know if you heard though, "even a broken clock is right twice a day."

I said he wouldn't play and to be honest Our backs are a huge freaking joke based on the fact that he is. None of the guys with talent owned that role so we are playing with the Trent Dilfer of running backs.

Great kid, but the fact that Cam is our "go to back" is a reflection on something that our program is not doing right.

I believe I said if Cam is our feature back, our run game would be in some trouble. 95th ranked rushing team in the country, I wasn't wrong.

Umm yeah. Cam is averaging 4.5 yards per carry, good for 169th in the country. He did t win his role, GAIII and Amir lost it.

Cam has done what has been asked of him. If he comes in and gets first downs in critical situations, I don't care if he's 394th in rushing in the country. I'd say he's a pleasant surprise, but he's been a tough running back since he's been at ND.

And let's not forget, he is VERY photogenic!!!

all credit due to Cam. Even after the carries against Miami last year he was working at DB.

Good prediction Duck, but I think there were other factors involved than just Cam stepping it up. Alot of Cam's production is due to Amir and GA's lack of production.

Sort of a myth. He gets those 1st downs because he is the back in the game.

GAIII has 13 1st downs on 70 carries, a 1st down on 18.6% of his carries.

Cam has 17 1st downs on 91 carries, a 1st down on 18.7% of his carries.

There is no difference between Cam and GAIII in getting a first down.

Thank you for bringing concrete facts to the argument Cory. I am as big a fan of Cam as anyone, but him being the #1 back on the team says more about what we lack than what we have IMO. Cam has shown that out of the top 3 backs that he is the only one that can be consistently counted on to bring it every play. He has definitely been an asset to the team and look forward to watching him play going forward, but this team will not have a great running game if he is the featured back. It's time some of the other rb talent starts stepping up or get Folston on the fast track in his game study.

Ding ding ding. Those numbers are even worse when you actually delve into them...

Rush Average by quarter:

1st-18att 63yds, 3.5ypc

2nd-17att 138yds 8.12ypc

3rd-18att 71yds 3.94ypc

4th-38att 144yds 3.79ypc

He's essentially an under 4ypc back. He also isn't be tasked with running the ball on 3rd down, only being call upon to do so 10 times, 9 of which were 3rd and 1-3yds. He's converted on just 4 of those.

What I see when I watch Cam and when I look at the stat sheet...is an unimpressive but hard runner who has benefited from having the trust of the coaching staff to get extended stretches of playtime. He is no threat in the passing game with only 2 catches.

Basically, Cam is that 6 at the bar who BK is taking come because at 2am, that's all that's left. Amir and GAIII are busy holding each others hair and vomiting in the bathroom and Folston is underage.
