USC first drive

So they stopped us on our goal line. Aside from the fact I agree we should have gone for it on 4th down and that we ran the same fing play 3 times in a row, I ask everyone to look at the the game tape at the 6:13 mark of the 1st Qtr. It was 3rd and 5, ball on the 31 yard line of ND. Pass play to the right to Darius Rodgers. Clearly he runs past the 1st down marker but also clearly comes back across it to make the catch. The ref not only puts his left foot down where he thinks the forward progress was stopped(still wrong), he takes an additional foot back with his right foot to make sure the first down was made. I saw this live and thought, bad call. Watch it again now and I am sure SC got the favorable spot that kept that drive alive leading to their first TD. BTW. What conference refs officiated that game? Ok. We won. But having fun watching again and confirming a glaring officiating error.

Considering USC was flagged for about 10,000 cumulative yards, I can't really work with a USC bias in this one...

except USC should have been flagged for way more...My die-hard USC buddy was watching and even he said, their O-Line sucked and was blatantly holding for most of the game

True. Just didnt have that feel of a game where they were getting away with much though....

it used to be the away team brings their refs. so, Pac-8/10/12/14 I think this is still the case?

Field refs were PAC 12, replay officials were ACC. I was happy with the officiating, and all of the penalties on the Trojans seemed appropriate. It took some guts to keep calling those holding penalties near the end, as blatant as they were.

totally agree with this

amd on a separate note, u kick FG at beginning of game. you never know when those three points will be needed late in the game. that is just my philosophy on the situation. doesnt make it the right call. turns out those 3 points COULD have cost us the game. but it was also a tough kick from the close and on the hash. a delay of game penalty would have helped if kicking it

I have been advocating this for many years. Why can't it be done?

one thought: conferences pay refs now right? would they all pool money in a pot to pay refs? are smaller schools paying less for less experienced refs?

is it because the NFL is a singular entity and refs arent paid by teams?

the NCAA wouldnt pay for refs (they are a governing body)

Doesnt everybody pay less for for less experience? Yes I think so. Still dont see why this couldn't work. The NCAA a governing body? Almost comical to use governing in the same sentence when it comes to describing anything the NCAA does. Lets just start with the FBS schools. Charge each of them a flat fee.

this is just about how it would work, not about laughing about the NCAA's effectivness.

they are defined as a governing body

the NFL operates much differently. im trying to find out more about how it works now to pose the question how thoseTHINGS could be applied to college. but have to know how it works in college first and the reasons why it is more like the NFL.

as for the pay, if it was one pool, would smaller schools be paying more than they pay for refs now even though they wouldnt get to use those "good" crews. who chooses what crews go where? the NCAA? (but then people would say the NCAA is bias on who they assign to games and be more of a joke)

I think the good crews should be required to wear these.

i agree with kicking the field goal, but if you do decide to go for it again in the future, please dont pull that pistol formation crap with a guy in motion when you need less than a yard.....you're not fooling anybody.....

I don't know about you guys but I knew we were going to get stuffed on that 4th down and then watch USC drive the length of the field. Had flashbacks of when Dayne fumbled at the one in 2011. Glad we could right the ship but couldn't have been a worse start.

agree. but that play wasnt drawn up to look like that. there was an exexution issue. we faked the jet motion twice and each time two people followed. then we faked it the other direction and ran the play that way and safety stuffed us
