We are going to be screwed by this thirteen person committee?

Nope. No more than any other top school. In fact, of the 13, I see 3 solidly in our corner (Alvarez, Rice, and yes, Haden), with only Ty as our major detractor. However, most of the committee will probably discount his ND comments as it's pretty obvious he might have some issues.

It's still a tough system, but go 11-1 or 12-0, and there's not much they can do bit out us in the playoff. After that, it's on us to win a couple games.

Has Ty actually voiced in public that he has issues with Notre Dame?

We all know he got fired, but it doesn't mean he holds a grudge 10 years later.

So please, if anyone has any irrefutable evidence that he does in FACT hold a grudge against us, please share.

If it's just because you "feel" like all people in the world hold grudges, that doesn't count.

Yes. He has.

We all understand it based on how he did many interviews after his termination here, and lead all the interviewers to a negative assumption of ND's intentions. He never specifically stated things like "ND is racist", but he was smart enough to know how to get the interviewer to state it, and he would make a point of never denying, defusing, etc.

He made it very clear, in a manner that didn't endanger the massive payout checks he still had coming his way, that he felt he was fired solely because he was black, and that ND was an inherently racist institution.

There's reasons for (at least) me feeling this way about Ty. He did his best to blow the worst PR ND's way. He made it clear through interviews for years that he has no love for ND, whatsoever.

I'm not sure I really understand how this thing's gonna work. So the 122 teams play 12 games. AP, USA Today, Harris Interactive, and computer polls all have their own rankings. Currently those polls are all used to develop the BCS rankings. Will those polls still be compiled to develop some final ranking? How will this committee actually decide who the best four teams are? Do they use polls and a "gut feeling"? Do they just go with a "gut feeling" without polls? I know, of course, they will analyze and have reasons for selecting who they select, but ultimately it seems like it comes down to a gut feeling by each of them.

I also keep hearing how strength of schedule is supposed to matter next year and beyond. But, is a 10-2 ND team EVER going to get into the final 4? Nope. Is a 10-2 'Bama team ever going to get into a final 4? Every time, IMHO. So, I'm just thinking SOS is hardly going to be taken into account. Just IMAGINE how those 13 people would have to cover themselves if they EVER selected a 10-2 ND team over an 11-1 LSU or Georgia. Just not gonna happen, even if ND plays THE hardest schedule in a given year.

So, I don't know if there's going to be an anti-ND bias, but I AM pretty sure there will be on-going SEC favoritism.

Don't get me wrong. I AM interested, and actually excited, about the new format. I just don't understand it yet and still have some reservations.

I think it is the start of an 8 team or 16 team playoff in the future.

It has gone from top 2 to top 4. ND won all their games last year and made the Top 2. So win all your games and you are easily in top 4.

But I would like to see strength of schedule be the deciding factor between tied teams. A simple objective line that is drawn. If you haven't played as tough a schedule, you are out.

There will still be rankings and I think the committee will take those into account.

Imagine it like the NCAA basketball selection committee. They factor in many things to picking the teams. Many times it will be lined up to how the poles factor in similarly.

But I don't think an undefeated Louisville team should get in over any 1 loss SEC team. Louisville SOS this year is like 107th or something crazy like that.

Miami's SOS is dog crap this year, too.

You are missing one key thing that the committee will be using to pick the top 4.

In addition to using SoS, Rankings, Head to Head results, and W/L record, the committee will also consider whether the team(s) in question were conference champions.....not to mention their own personal opinion.

The committee will not just be looking at the top 4 and picking from there. They will probably be looking at all teams with respectable W/L records and "if" the conference championship part of the equation is that big to them, a number 2 or 3 ND could be skipped.

In a scenario where ND is sitting at 11-1 or 12-0 and in the top 4, and there are conference champions (from the current BCS conferences) that are sitting with 0 or 1 losses in ranked anywhere from 1 -6, what happens?
