I Think We Should Bring Back Weis

As offensive coordinator.

I'm not actually kidding. He's been gone long enough for it to not be awkward. I think he would actually be welcomed back honestly. He didn't develop his players physically, but he's still a great offensive mind and a great recruiter. Can you image BK and Weis throwing ideas back and forth? If Kelly wants to hand the offense off to someone this would be the guy, and Weis has proven that he is capable of running the spread. He's certainly a smart enough mind to adapt to Kelly's spread. I would absolutely love it if this was possible.

Here come the posts from those of you that hate this idea.

And here come more posts from people saying Kelly is too stubborn to ever let this happen.

Said who? Why on earth would we blow up 4 years of building a psuedo spread only to go back to pro-style?

Kansas is ranked 109th in scoring this year, 118th last year and they struggle mightly to score on even FCS schools. 13 points against ULT? 14 against Rice? He had the 71st ranked offense as the OC at Florida in 2011. He had the 28th ranked passing offense at KC during his stint there.

I am really tired of people acting like Charlie Weis was some kind of an offensive savant. He had the 32nd ranked scoring offense in 2009, 66th ranked in scoring in 2008 and 116th in 2007.

Did you read my whole post?

You do realize Weis has run the pistol and the spread at times, correct?

You also realize that the 32nd ranked scoring offense with ND's schedule, lack of FBS schools, and lack of player development at the time was also very solid?

2007 was a season crushed by having nothing in the cupboard from the Ty years and starting a true freshman behind 0 offensive line.

Our offense was much more cohesive under Weis than it has been the last few years. We're a better team now, but our offense made a lot more sense back then.

So we ignore the last 7 years of Weis' coaching career based on excuses? There wasn't enough in the cupboard to beat a 4 loss Purdue that had a 48 spot dropped on them by Central Michigan? Or a 6 loss GT? Or a 6 loss MSU? 4 loss Air Force? We had more talent than any of those teams. So there wasn't enough on that roster to get a first down in the first half against USC in 2008? Or a single point against Boston College?

You have more excuses for this guy than a pregnant nun in confession. His offenses came up short in every big spot.

I'm not proposing he becomes head coach man. I'm suggesting he call plays and recruit only. He's actually pretty good at that. You are blind if you don't actually think our offenses were good when he was here, with the exception of 2007 because of the logical reasons I spelled out. Is he the best offensive coordinator out there? No, that's not what I said. He is an ND grad, an ND guy, he can sell ND, and he's a better offensive coordinator than we have now.

Our o-line is 27x better right now than it ever was under Weis. So, have Weis call plays with Kelly personel = winning.

Martin's play calling is fine. Plus, you don't even know what plays he is calling. You only see "run" or "pass"

And don't forget the multiple losses to Navy after our 143 year winning streak. Good Times, Good Times, indeed!

He called a fake punt from his own 6 yard line and it failed. He should have stayed in the NFL.

I made this thread for two reasons:

1.) I think it's an interesting, and not terrible idea.

2.) I was interested to see what other people thought and if anyone else thought it might be a good idea.

I think a lot of people liked Weis as a person and appreciated that he restocked our cupboards. By the way, everyone says Nix committed without a coach but guess who was recruiting him to ND for over a year? Weis. The guy can sell ND and he is a very good offensive mind. He's absolutely terrible as a player developer and a head coach, but as an offensive coordinator and an ND guy he's very solid.

Weis is an alright coordinator but I don't think he's as good as he's hyped up to be. I think Weis is an NFL guy as his track record shows. His teaching methods might work better in the pro game. His offense was terrible at Kansas (I know lack of talent) but also bad at Florida (not so much).

I don't think it'll ever happen and I wouldn't be in favor of it. Personally I'd love someone to come in and implement an offense similar to Oregons. That team is a pain in the *** to whoever they play and look to me as the number one team atm. They can play defense this year too.

This year it's better though. They IMO have the best offense and defense in the pac-12. It's their year to win it, they'll go head on with an sec team I bet. Who knows though I can also see Clemson, Ohio State and louisville running the table. Louisville doesn't count though, I think a one loss sec team will go ahead of them forsure.

I like Weis' mind ... he has a talent for calling the game.

But, being a coach, and being part of a coaching team, requires other attributes, and I really don't think that Weis would mesh with the personality of Kelly.

He's got too big an ego.
