October 8, 201311 yr This guy needs to start ASAP! I`ve seen more than I should have of Farley in my lifetime. I think myself and others have been overly critical of Collingsworth. He didn`t get beat too badly when he did, and he isn`t that slow but when we play USC/Stanford his lack of elite speed will get exposed. I'm ready for Shumate but I'm not calling for Collingworths head. I am calling for Farleys head though. He is slower than Collingsworth and he shouldn't be since he's playing free safety. He's a bad tackler, takes poor angles, and frankly hasn't nailed the mental part all to well which is the reason we can't get Redfield on the field.
October 9, 201311 yr I figured it was something like that with Redfield. I think it's good that he's frustrated but at the same time recognizes why he's not seeing time on defense yet. JTennant, I don't remember seeing Wood on defense much if it all so far. The participation report says that he didn't play against MSU or OK and he hasn't been credited with a tackle since Michigan. :noidea:
October 9, 201311 yr Is Lo Wood still on the team? He had a penalty against him in the ASU game... He is mostly playing special teams.

So he keeps making mistakes in practice, hasn't nailed down his mental responsibility as the QB of the back end of the defense yet you want him to start ASAP. Wow, our fanbase. Heed BK's words: "it's not just dropping into Cover 2" #playersdetermineplayingtime

Heed BK's words: "it's not just dropping into Cover 2" #playersdetermineplayingtime Yes but if your satisfied with the safety play then I think your nuts. Time and time again I've seen much more talented freshman come in and outplay the veteran. Yes the few mental mistakes are forgivable because he makes plays. I'll call it right now that our safeties will be beat on sheer speed and athleticism against USC, they can't run with speedy teams. Jaylon is a great example. He's made a few mistakes but makes up for it with his talent level. I mean he had two plays in our redzone that were amazing. If we have Councell out there he won't make that play. Instead of 6 points that's 14 they get, then we maybe don't win the game. Those plays were huge and it's his decision but it's just a matter of time before he inserts himself into the lineup.

Not being satisfied with the safety play and rushing a freshman who isn't mentally ready to play the position are two different things. Redfield has a chance to be an All-American caliber player. And be a vast improvement over what we have. But until he proves in the classroom he won't be a multi-leveled liability - not knowing his own assignment and not lining his teammates up correctly to fit the call and formation - we have to roll with other players until he can.

Well I am praying he can pick up the knowledge before USC, this bye week is huge for Redfield. This comes at a perfect time, the coaches can focus on coaching up Redfield. I just can't stand to watch another game with Farley playing back there, Shumate needs to take over for Austin too. Here's to hoping the young guns pick up the mental part before USC!

That's not going to happen in time for USC. Consider it a tremendous sign, though, if he works his way into the mix to at least see prolonged action.
October 9, 201311 yr What we need is to not have the most complicated schemes in college football that take multiple years to learn. Every other program manages to plug in young players, at ND our 4th year premed QB can't learn the offense, freshmen need to know the intricacies if every formation and blitz pick up to see the field. RS freshman and true freshman QB succeed at numerous schools, ours need to be babied and brought along slowly. How about making it easy enough so the best players can play before their third year.

Yeah, we get it, you aren't satisfied with Kelly.

This is stupid
October 9, 201311 yr I love how Cory gets so frustrated he forgets freshmen Jaylon Smith and Cory Robinson and Will Fuller and sophomores K. Russell, Chris Brown, Stanley, sheldon Smith, ARE playing just because two freshmen aren't. He claims the system is too complicated for freshmen and sophomores yet we are playing a good share of them every single week. Come on dude

He claims the system is too complicated for freshmen and sophomores yet we are playing a good share of them every single week. Come on dude Smith is starting because Spond got hurt. Russell played because Lo Wood got hurt and there was no one else. Robinson and Fuller play limited snaps and run the same basic route every time (which is easy and making my point for maki g things simple to get the best players on the field). Stanleyis playing because Hanratty got hurt. Brown is playing because ND has hardly any upper class WR. But please, keep telling me how stupid it is.

You are wrong Cory. Plenty of young players get on the field
October 9, 201311 yr ...and to make matters worse, does our offense look all that complicated? Yeah, why have complicated schemes if the other defenses seem to figure it out in 2 seconds?
October 9, 201311 yr Yeah, why have complicated schemes if the other defenses seem to figure it out in 2 seconds? When the QB isn't turning it over or throwing wide/short of the open receiver we've been marching it up and down the field.
