ND vs. the Sec

There is a good chance ND could lose to every team in the SEC. Even last year, they would have struggled to win 7 games in the SEC. This year they would struggle to go .500.

Example: Ole Miss' 2013 schedule

@

Vanderbilt

SE Missouri St

Texas

#1 Alabama

Auburn

#9 Texas A&M

#10 LSU

Arkansas

Troy

Missouri

Miss. St

I only see 5 wins on this schedule for the 2013 ND team. In order to be an elite team, ND must bridge the gap between the SEC and the rest of college football. Kelly is not doing that. We got lucky last year in several games and could have easily been a 7 win team. What happened when we played an SEC team...got smacked. We only lost 3 starters on defense from last year and there has been a significant drop off...coaching. Yea if Golson is playing this year we are probably undefeated, but his absence is revealing ND's team flaws; this team is NOT good. Talked to an ND football alum yesterday and he thinks Kelly is gone in 3 years. He's a more politically correct Weis. Pray that we get Gruden or Charlie Strong before it is too late.

The SEC is top-heavy. Sure, we would get killed by the likes of Alabama, LSU, SCar, Florida, and Georgia, but Tenn, Mizzou, Vandy, UK, Auburn, Arkansas, and Miss St. are not good teams. Ole Miss, I'm not sure. They're really young but really talented.

The SEC had hyper depth and hyper talent in ~2011, but, besides the top 5 teams, they just don't scare me much anymore.

EDIT: How ND would fare against Ole Miss' schedule

@

Vanderbilt --- Almost a toss-up, they're an up-and-coming team, I lean W

SE Missouri St --- W

Texas --- Atrocious defense, W

#1 Alabama --- L

Auburn --- Just a bad team, W

#9 Texas A&M --- L

#10 LSU --- L

Arkansas --- New coach, new system, W

Troy --- W

Missouri --- W

Miss. St --- probably a W

Also, they play Idaho after LSU that you left off --- W.

9-3 (5-3), boom. Dat OOC schedule.

The fact that we barely beat a Purdue team, who who got torched by 31 against N.Illinois the following weak, makes opponents like Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Missouri and Miss. St tough and hard fought games. 9 wins would be a miracle.

To make this a fair argument, you would have to assume that ND was an SEC school.

If ND was an SEC school, they wouldn't have some players currently on the roster playing or even on the team. Just a fact of the type of recruits that SEC schools get.

So trying to project a school that doesn't recruit like SEC schools with an SEC schedule is rather absurd.

ND VS. SEC

VANDY... i would not put money on this game, it could go either way

SE Missouri.... we would win

Texas... as bad as they look i still say 50/50

Bama... prison rape

Auburn... we would lose by at least 7

A & M.... see Bama

LSU... see Bama

Arkansas.... they would beat us now that they have there QB back... they have a great running game as well.

Troy.... win

Missouri.... 7 point game either way

Miss State.... they would win by at least 14

Idaho... we would win

I watch SEC football all day every weekend and always brake them down to see what ND needs to do to catch up to the best football played right now and we are years away.

ND is top 20 in recruiting every year. Many years, ND "outrecruits" several SEC schools based on rankings. Are you saying they get a different "type of player" in their recruiting hauls?

WOW!! You must be an expert. Disc or drum?

I think we would fall into the SEC about even with Ole Miss which is worse than Bama, aTm, LSU, USCar, UGA, & UF, but better than Mizzou, Vandy, UK, Tenn, Auburn, Miss State, & Ark.

c'mon guys. We're all rooting for the same team here. Let's be nice to one another. This should be a community, not a place where we take shots at each other.

It was a light-hearted joke. I was just trying to inject a little humor into our community. It doesn't have to be serious all the time.

last year we beat Stanford who beat Oregon. The outcome against Oregon would've been just as bad as with Bama.....just sayin'

this is some flimsy logic at best, excludes all variables (location, weather, health, etc)

That said, we are a flawed team with lots of talent and potential...just not at certain key positions.

I apologize then man. Just has been testy on here for the past few weeks.

And to address the other comments:

Guys the SEC is a power house. They have won the last 8 championships.

I don't know how this thread can be viewed as laughable when our " championship team" last year got embarrassed by close to 30 points by an SEC team. Our 2006-2007 team got destroyed by LSU. We would get mobbed by the majority of the SEC. How can you argue that?

No problem.

I wouldn't grade the rest of the SEC on Bama's strength. They are head and shoulders above the SEC....and the rest of CFB.

I have no idea how these rankings work. I see schools with three stars like Michigans roster make us look like fools. We're loaded with 4 stars but it seems like we have 2 star production from many. I have lost faith in recruiting sites, because half the kids never pan out whether it be poor competition, lack of a work ethic or whatever it may be.

It just seems what the sec schools put on the field is much better, and light years faster. When I flipped between the Georgia/LSU game during commercials I could not believe the difference in talent but especially speed. It was mind boggling, I kept thinking how bad both teams would crush ND/Okie.

Also everyone ragging on the post needs to watch more sec football, it is much different. It is a fact that they are the best and his opinion most teams would beat ND. I tend to agree, go look at the bottom of the standings and watch some of those teams play. They're all fast and speed is the one thing you can't coach, plain and simple speed kills and we need a whole lot more of it.

I look at who we've struggled with and I don't think many sec teams would have struggled with them. Like it or not there's still a huge gap between us and the top tier of the sec. I think we could beat some of the middle of the pack schools like Florida and South Carolina on a good day, but we'd struggle with them all.

I watch alot of SEC football and i go to all there clinics, they look bigger, faster, stronger because they are.... also they way they teach there players in years ahead of what i see when i go around to schools in ACC country and my trips to ND...

If Diaco was a DC for a SEC team his bend but dont break Defense would give up 40 points a game avg. You can do that anymore. Old school doesn't work anymore. Even Coach Saban says now that he is going to have to evolve and change his style and if you have watched there games this season you can see there are playing at a faster pace and useing different formations and this is coming from a coach that wanted the Spread offense banned a couple of years ago....

Kelly and his staff have to change there game plan, it just looks like they do the same thing for evey team.

To be politically correct, the SEC success relies on morons who are physically gifted but who would otherwise have significant difficulty taking on a higher education if it were not for their football scholarship. The high schools these guys come from have terrible ratings and hardly prepare any of their students for college. In other words, even if they wanted to come to ND they couldn't because of our admission/performance standards. When you add this to the scholarship games that Saban plays and the allure of cash from boosters, we should be glad we even had the opportunity to try this past January.

The southern states are rife with athletically gifted guys who couldn't care less about the hurdle before the nfl known as a degree. If they could bypass college like basketball players, they would.
