Culver
Take it or leave it folks but I had a nice conversation with an alum today who is buds with some players and here is the gist. MZ may never play here...he is awful in practice and cannot grasp the offense. Hendrix is the smartest guy we got...better than Tommy by far in every way BUT he panics under pressure and cannot be trusted in a real game. Tommy...great guy they all love him...BUT he picks his reciver to throw to on every play and that is set...no check downs no looking at other options. Plus they know he is just not that good...ie arm and mobility. Tommy plays because he is the only option. Worst of all when my guy asked his buddy's what it would take to fix it they said "I don't know...but it is bad" not trying to crap on us...but I had to share and I know alot of guys say I have a source...but trust me this is legit. I couldn't imagine that Zaire would NEVER play here just because he can't grasp the offense right now. I mean, he's still only a freshman. Besides, isn't Kelley's offense really complicated? About the rest of the stuff.........that really sucks. I would say just get Hendrix in there. Eff it! It's like corysold said, "How much worse can he be?" I mean, even Tommy seems to panic from time to time. Also, other people have already said that if Hendrix was given the starting position, then he could flourish. I still think he did well in 2011 against Stanford. With what Brian Kelley said in his press conference about Hendrix, maybe he could nudge Rees out of the starter position if he plays well enough. We'll see i guess. Anyway, thanks for posting this info. It's good to know. Albeit, pretty dissapointing. Edited October 2, 2013 by Baldy Adding a few new sentances. edcubby
MZ is not the first Frosh to look awful in practice and certainly will not be the last. Hendrix is "squirrelly"...I've been saying that for 2 years. If I can see it on my TV then BK can see it everyday. I thought we all understood this once Golson got canned? What upsets me is how awful and uninspired the defense looks. To me the legend (the one on the field) of Teo has grown immensely now that he is gone. Agreed and as I said in another thread Zeke Motta is sorely missed as well whether people believe it or not. His getting the defense into position and organizing the back end is missed too. hawaiiirish
I call TOTAL GIBBERISH on this---no offense meant--- I remember the reports about Golson from practice--"he's a turnover waiting to happen"---"he's 4th on the depth chart behind Hendrix Rees and Kiel" It was from such good sourses that whats his face from the SBT was pushing that line--so what sources say about practice evaluations is OFTEN TOTAL GIBBERISH! Zaire will play in due course ABSOLUTELY---Hendrix throws picks DA--we all know both HE and Tommy can throw more picks then you like its just a pick your poison on that. From what I have seen Rees plays over Hendrix because of ONE KEY FACCTOR---THATS NEARLY TWO DOZEN STARTS THAT GIVES COACH MORE COMFORT WITH HIM____ One more EGG andthat will change as well. Its just very easy to be critical of everything when things are going poorly---we all do that all the time---that's all this is..... Nothing new here---Nothing to see here--move along-- aloha's

Not to discredit your source, but I call BS. MZ may not grasp the entire playbook right now, but I would bet money that he could outperform both Rees and Hendrix on Saturday night if given an opportunity. Some players are gamers, meaning they don't always perform well in practice, but shine under the gameday lights. Take Jameis Winston for example, I've heard sucks in practice. I have a good feeling that MZ is a gamer. Unfortunately, it may take an injury to find this out.

AlabamaDuck
What is the down side of playing Hendrix? What is he going to do, throw into double coverage? Or lock on a receiver? If he can come off the bench and played pretty good, why wouldn`t he settle down after a few plays. That is if he needs to settle down. He is in for one or two plays and then back on the bench never knowing if and when he might go back in. And about Zaire, this is just the opposite of what his HS coach said. And the coach at the Elite 11 said that he was the best dual threat QB there (3rd overall) and talked about how smart he was. If he is smart enough to get into ND but not smart enough to learn the playbook, skinny down the playbook like they had to do for Tommy. Also, before the season Kelly said that Zaire would play but the Mono ended that. I believe the player that gave that information was TR.
