Donjuan 16
'The Palm Beach Post’s Jeff Greer tweeted Sunday morning that Irish freshman running back Greg Bryant’s father is telling people that his son will redshirt this season. Kelly responded during the teleconference by saying that he “does not know where the report came from” and that the freshman missed the Oklahoma game due to a knee injury.' http://notredame.247sports.com/Article/Kelly-Discusses-Councell-Hendrix-and-Bryant-152105 Is anyone else starting to think that this is a situation where the kid just needs a chance to get acclimated to Notre Dame both culturally and academically, and therefore they are just going to let him settle in this year? He can still redshirt as I think you can play in 3 of the first 6 games and then redshirt if it is "for an injury." Think it's a coincidence that Kelly is saying he hurt his knee? Maybe I'm wrong but idk. I think this is all starting to smell funny. Hope I'm wrong, just saying these things usually start off like this. Hopefully, it's really just an injury like is being reported and he'll be 100% healthy and playing under TD Jesus next year. Hopefully... Soko 135
This Bryant thing is being completely overblown because he came in with a 5 star rating. I'd be more pissed off that Folston has not gotten more carries as he has looked really good. 5 into one was never going to go so once Folston starting showing his metal it was always likely Bryant would have to take a back seat. Atkinson has started picking it now as well. I like Cam's honesty and reliability but he can't be getting 10+ carries anymore with the other backs that we have. davislove 0
Guess that's why you recruit more then one player. I don't see how we can recruit another good rb with our track record. Hate to have a Florida kid bitter especially one who played for a high school that turns out good recruits and prospect year after year. I numb to any bad news. Irish_Convert 1
It's possible he's having issues getting acclimated as it's probably a completely different social and cultural dynamic for him as well as balancing school and football. Golson and Nix both had issues getting settled in if I recall. Didn't Louis have a battle with homesickness as well? I obviously have no idea when it comes right down to it. FWIW, he's got a picture of himself in uniform on the field for his profile picture on Twitter and he recently posted a picture of a B he got on a paper. It seemed as though he was pretty happy about it, too. Que sera, sera. Folston has looked good in limited action. Atkinson seems to be getting a better feel for the position and has eligibility left. McDaniel is serviceable and also has eligibility left. Carlisle has two years of eligibility left and there's the forgotten Will Mahone as well. If something happened with Bryant it would stink but RB is one of the least worrisome positions at this point. I wish the QB depth looked more like the RB depth because there would probably be less drinking and cursing come Saturday evening. I assume. dangeruss 6
This Bryant thing is being completely overblown because he came in with a 5 star rating. I agree. when Bryant signed with ND I thimk most people (me included) thought he would come in and just tear it up from day one and be NDs #1 RB by game three. if he does redshirt I don't think their is anything wrong with that. its a huge jump from high school to college, you got to learn a playbook that's the size of a phone book and learn to manage your time between football and school and it can probably be a bit overwhelming at times. max redfield hasn't seen any playing time other than special teams either but everyone seems to be okay with that. I just think we are making a bigger deal out of this than we need to. im sure Bryant would love to be out on the field but sometimes it just takes time. blueandgold4423 0
Guarantee the fact that we lost Hood also plays into the decision to redshirt Bryant. Cause right now it doesn't look like we'll get another RB for this class
Domer Dude 0
My theory is the Folston and Bryant will be the best combo of backs since the Bettis era...
Rockets Revenge 0
Bryant > Folston Based on what? Some high school tapes, his height, or subjective star ratings? Maybe you know something Kelly and Alford don't!!
Paulo1300 0
honestly i wasnt that impressed with greg bryant's tape.. nor was i impressed with derrick greens. they just didnt look like 5 star recruits to me. Obviously, I know nothing about breaking down film, but i just didnt feel like i was looking at anything special. now hood's film made me drool - wish he was still committed kelly brought up bryant in his interviews/conferences (from fall practice) many times without even being solicited - and they were all high praise, so i tihnk there is something special there still. i am just thinking he hasnt learned the plays yet. NDhoosier 1,339
In my opinion, I think Kelly may be trying to set Bryant up for a redshirt but is not going to publicly state it because it could hurt his case with the NCAA later one. Since Bryant has already played in some games, the only way to redshirt him would be to try and get a medical redshirt on him. ckp160 10
Early on I was pretty concerned about a transfer for Bryant. I started following on Twitter and it looks like he's doing fine. By and large all his tweets have been positive. He's even had some about being patient. It's a little puzzling about the father mentioning redshirt, but he might not know all the ins and out of medical redshirts.
Shamrocker 0
May as well redshirt him if he's not going to play much. I doubt he'd stick around for a 5th year though, unless God forbid he gets a serious injury down the road. I thought Cierre Wood made the right choice goingpro even though he went undrafted. He had his degree and was fortunate not to suffer any injuries. Running backs have a short span in the NFL.
