ErickJD08
Is Kelly watching these games? Seriously. In his teleconference, he talked about how this offense is more effective when we run to set up the pass. Couldn't agree more. He also mentioned how that is the game plan going into games. Really ??? Three of the first four plays are passes. How the hell is he convincing anyone that our strategy is to run to set up the pass? Can anyone point to a game where that was the game plan? He also went on to mention that he thinks that the offense is a bit one dimensional with Tommy because if his ability to run. Really??? Who is feeding BK this trash? True, having Vince Young or Manzel at QB can make your offense dynamic. But when is someone going to clue Kelly in that you don't need a dynamic QB to have an great running game. RBs run with the ball and QBs throw the ball. Many offenses have a efficient offense with a immobile QB. If we go on the brink of missing a bowl before the staff understands the concept of running to set up the pass, a la 2011, someone needs to go. Not necessarily Kelly but someone. die4irish
Manzell would suck in his offense. He would get yelled at for any improvision at all.

Kelly is going to get the square peg in that round hole. Against Navy and Air Force. He has always been a my way or the highway kinda guy. ObieKnobbe
We need to run the damn ball more, I am so sick of seeing 3rd and 2 with an empty backfield. We need to put the game on our running game and say go ahead and stop it. When we pull the defense up we have plenty of weapons to go over the top with. All of the weapons except a QB to do it consistently, which is kind of important.

You don't line up empty backfield on 3rd and 2 if QB is your weakness. You hand the ball off and beat the man across from you. With the talent ND has on offense they should be able to out-physical almost any opponent for 2 yards on the ground.

Rockets Revenge
Should be able to. For some reason it seems like normally we can't. Yet somehow ND rushed for 220 yards and a 7.6 ypc avg!!! If you take away the 2 long runs and the Rees sack ND still averaged 4.2 ypc!!! WTF???!!!

It just seems like any time it's a short yardage situation and everyone knows we are going to run, we just don't get the job done... I haven't looked at drive charts, and I could be wrong. ErickJD08
All of the weapons except a QB to do it consistently, which is kind of important. You don't need a mobile QB to convert third and shorts. In fact, with an immobile QB, having an empty set is the worst idea because you are telling the other team you will throw. How about a normal formation with a PA if you really want to throw on third and short?

I mean the D was completely shocked that a draw was called up for Tommy.
BigPoppaPump
Déjà vu thread.. Been saying this since the Michigan game ended. Play calling has been shockingly bad. Its like there is zero awareness if the personnel they have and their strengths/weaknesses...
BigPoppaPump
But hey guys, we're not professional coaches who get paid to do this for a living, so we have no business starting or commenting in a thread like this...
