A little adversity and this board (all boards) turns to crap

The quality of this board is at an all-time low.

I understand that as fans, this is our escape hatch, our way to take 4 hours out of the week and be crazy lunatics. And I understand that we want to see our boys play perfectly each and every week because we care.

But I've never seen a greater bunch of fair-weather, sappy, **** and vinegar CRYBABIES than the influx of doom and gloom this board has undergone in the past month.

After a season where we got to see our team play for a national championship, some of you are already murmuring that Kelly may need to go, or that hopefully he takes an NFL job. After a season where the defense was historically good, we bury TEENAGERS playing their a$$es off on the field in new roles, sometimes at new positions, because they don't play like Ray Lewis and Patrick Willis in their first regular action. To not expect a severe drop-off from the defense (and I'm guilty of it myself) was a mistake. And we're seeing how the learning curve can be steep, especially when new players are replacing ND legends.

But I will not tolerate the GLEE that some members seem to take in ND's struggles. It's as if they enjoy being pessimistic about the Irish and point out every single mistake made, or every weakness transparent, without realizing just how far the football program has come in the past four years. And if you don't admit that the program is far and away a lot better off than it was during Weis' last season, you're either a.) stupid or b.) willfully blind.

The nickname of the team we root for is the FIGHTING IRISH. Adversity is a part of anything in life, and every football program goes through it. We're stuck with Tommy Rees as our quarterback -- as a result of Golson being selfish, Kelly being shortsighted, or whoever you want to blame -- and instead of bearing down and FIGHTING through the season, some of you are throwing up the white flag and giving up. It's disgusting.

Be disappointed, and express that disappointment. Be upset at losses that you think should be wins. But don't take joy in pointing out ND's faults -- GTFO of here with that.

I'm glad I'm not in foxholes with some of you guys. This season is just over a quarter done, with the toughest part behind us, and some are already saying that it's over. Kelly should be gone. Rees should be tarred and feathered. We'll never win again.

FIGHT. When times get tough, you have two choices: give up, or fight like hell. Some of you turned tail and ran after the Michigan game, and more of you look to be doing the same after yesterday. I say good riddance. The board doesn't need you, the fanbase doesn't need you, and the team certainly doesn't.

On to Arizona State. Go Irish.

Sure. The problem is if powers that be make terrible personnel decisions. I thought this crap left with Weis. Again, this isn't about the QB position. Rees is the best throwing player we have. Not saying much but that's the reality.

There are two areas in offense, rushing and passing. We have play makers on offense. We do. GAIII, TJ, Daniels, and Folston (very clear now), and maybe Bryant if the kid got a shot. For our RBs, you can hand the ball off, easy way to get them the ball. For our WRs, you need someone decent at throwing. Hendrix sucks at throwing and is more athletic than Tommy but is not a great runner. We have very talented runners. Why let a less talented runner run with the ball when you can use a talented one. It makes most sense to use the teams strengths and don't scheme your team into failure.

The sad part is that the people who this is talking about probably will not respond to it or they will make some cheeky remark on again... how Notre Dame sucks at life. I have been saying that some of the posters almost want ND to fail so they can be proven right in the forums. This post just puts everything in better perspective. I will subscribe to this thread in hopes that the people this is talking about respond, and if they do, respond with some intelligence.

That's what I've been noticing -- posters almost wanting ND to fail, and taking satisfaction when they lose games.

These team is on pace, at the moment, to win between 7-9 games. But at the moment there's threads saying that we won't be able to compete with Navy, Air Force, etc. - and that's just a complete joke.

The team has to get up off the mat and win next week. I wish more posters would pull themselves off the canvas, too.

Personally I'm giving Kelly a mulligan this year due to the bad luck he's had losing a guy like Golson on top of losing a lot of talent from the prior season. He's won everywhere he's been and took us th the title game last year.

Defense hasn't been great but its hard to have a great defense every year. Even the mighty SEC is having a hard time playing good D this year.

Funny how some of the people who are chastised for their realistic approach are some of the most level headed optimistic posters as of late ;)

While, I'm not thoroughly enjoying this season, I am able to see that we're a few personnel (coaches - NOT head, and players) away from really doing some special things...

Agreed. This team got over a big hump last year, and then suffered some pretty big losses in the offseason that have directly impacted this year.

But the short-sightedness of the board makes me so very thankful that the NDNation crowd doesn't make decisions about the ND football program, despite that group's over-inflated feeling of self-worth and importance.

Swarbrick doesn't give a $hit about NDNation-types (who have seemingly migrated towards this board), and their pissing and moaning makes zero difference. Kelly brought this program out of the stone age, and while this year is a setback, it's about to MAJORLY turn the corner (and would have if Golson was still enrolled, in my opinion).

Some of you need to push back from the keyboard and take a big step. If you're going to whine about how you think this team should win every game they suit up for by 90+ points, you're being unrealistic. Hike up the skirts, take the adversity on the chin, and keep moving forward. That's what the ND program will be doing, so you should jump onboard.

I appreciate trying to be level headed in the face of adversity--

But caution is advised even for the level headed--

If the play we have seen this season continues, we are likely to sink MUCH LOWER then where we are now---

I really DOUBT threads with a don't go overboard with doom and gloom can survive too much more of this and too many more losses--

Remember ASU & USC are coming up in prompt fashion--its unfortunately very possible things will look MUCH worse before they get MUCH better!

Time will Tell-- Irrespective of what we say on our little board

aloha's go irish!

Special teams. Scott Booker needs to go. Now. We're making NO progress in fixing glaring deficiencies.

Linebacker coach (and/or Defensive coordinator). Either Diaco needs to focus on this specifically or turn over the reigns to someone who can.

Chuck Martin. Either he needs a lesson in O.C. 101 or he needs to go. I cannot stand the play calling this year.

I actually think Chuck is a good coach....but should be moved to defense. He played safety in college and I believe he would just be more comfortable there. Kelly likes to put people out of their comfort level, like moving Alford to slots/receivers, but that's not always the best thing to do.

Yep. It's amazing how fine the line is between boom or bust. If Everett simply did not commit an academic violation we'd be sitting at 5-0 right now (MAYBE 4-1 but I think we win both) and on our way. Even with the defensive struggles. One player at one position.
