DREWGOOSE
SIAP, but I haven't seen this yet. BK...“I was telling my athletic director, I wanted to throw the ball so bad on those last few drives. But we felt like we wanted to put our defense back on the field and not give Michigan State, because they’ve been so opportunistic defensively, an opportunity to win the football game on defense.” sounds like he trusted his defense to stop msu even though they were moving the ball somewhat. article http://spartannation.com/2013/09/23/notre-dame-head-coach-brian-kelly%E2%80%99s-game-plan-indicts-spartan-offensive-coaches-ouch/

hawaiiirish
MSU is IMHO NOT a good team despite there defensive play. I expect them to go 4-4 in the big ten----honestly with our roster we should have handled them much easier. aloha's

I know it was a "close game", but in the end, we were really a good QB performance from a 31-13 type win. Didn't even have to be a different QB before this gets out of hand. Tommy has made the throws in the past he needed to make, he just had a particularly awful game throwing downfield. I know he isn't great at it, but he was better than he showed. Add 120 yards of offense and 14 more points and it'd look like a blowout.
ColinKSU
Brian said the same thing today on his spot on Sirius XM's College station. He was playing ball control, even though he wanted to throw the ball at the end of the game. He knew the best plan was to kill clock, flip field position and let MSU's offense try to beat Notre Dame. (It worked.)
NDhoosier
MSU's defense is legit, but their offense is what will lose them games in the B1G.
Franco
a lot of those commenters are taking what Kelly said way too seriously...I think they're taking what he said out of context he just wanted to minimize offensive mistakes and control the clock and even though his offensive mind was telling him to throw it, he knew to just keep calm

Couldn't you say that about any close win?? 45-24 over Purdue would look better than 31-24 as well.

Sure, but I don't remember Tommy missing multiple open WRs vs Purdue. I feel that game was as close as the score indicated. I felt ND was in control vs MSU even though the score didn't indicate it. The Purdue score was about what the on field play indicated. I think MSu could have been a bigger win.

The offense seemd equally stagnant against PU except for a 3 minute stretch in the 2nd half. They couldn't do anything in the first half. It felt like they should have been able to run teh ball against PU and put up a couple TD's in the first half.

Right, I guess what I'm saying is the ofensw looked bad vs Purdue, but it wasn't like RBs were missing holes or WR were dropping balls, it was just bad offense. Vs MSU, the O looked bad, but I felt the plays were there to be made with somewhat average plays, they just weren't made. Maybe that doesn't make sense, but it does in my head! Even last year with a dominant defense, we handled very few teams. Everyone came in this year with high expectations and bought the hype that ND should handle people. This is the same ND that took the field 2 years, 4 years, 10 years ago. Just more skilled players on the team. We play to the other teams level. We will rise to Oklahoma's level but for some reason, ND always keeps them close. This is ND and this is the way they are. It is like ND has a mental block that stops them from being themselves and we allow other teams to dictate how well we play.

B10 stinks this year. Got owned by the PAC12. I think MSU loses 2 games in conference. They will have at least two games where they only let up single digits. MSU plays two teams (Northwestern, Ohio State) that I expect them to lose to this year. They don't play Wisconsin or Penn State, and Michigan and Nebraska are both sort of a mess right now. The Spartans have owned Michigan since 2008 and Nebraska is sort of a hot mess right now. I really, honestly believe that Sparty is a darn good team. They look like a 10-win squad if their offense can get any traction whatsoever. No one on their schedule outside of OSU and Northwestern is going to put up big points on their defense. NDhoosier
MSU has been the most Overrated team over the last several years. They are not even ranked. But your made up award would EASILY go to U$C last year. Not even debatable.

Dude, it's even easier than you think..They don't play tOSU this year unless they win the Leaders. They play Michigan, at home. They have to travel to Lincoln but that's off the bye week and that's after Nebraska plays Northwestern and Michigan back to back. Sparty is a 10 win squad. They will go 2-1 in the 3 game stretch of Michigan, @Nebraska, @NW. Their defense is going to cause fits for the entire conference.
