hawaiiirish
Time for many of you to face the music on this one, we are a passing team--herbie has come to grips with it , and I expect so has the staff. The OLINE is clearly better at pass protection then run blocking at this point, the running back by committee has exposed the staff as truly confused about our run game. Now its true that tommy is not payton manning but nonetheless he has at least TWO NFL RECIEVERS in TJ & DD! If we want to win 8 or 9 games we have to embrace what we are==A pass first spread offense! Cam was one of the few players playing with passion and IMO has earned the start at MSU! NO GOLSON==NO WOOD--NO THEO--NO CAVE and we simply are a struggling work in progress as a run game-- and no amount of WISHFUL thinking " we can be like Alabama" is going to solve that problem. In 2014 with GOLSON --and some more experienced backs we likely will be a MUCH BETTER RUN TEAM as well as a DYNAMIC passing team. But for 2013-- We should just attack like the team we are, a passing spread team-- I expect we come out THROWING against MSU and try to score first for a change of pace. aloha's go irish! ErickJD08
this is why we are losing to MSU
SpecialFNK
nothing wrong with being a passing team. look at all the talented receivers ND has. Daniels, Jones, Brown, Niklas, plus the freshman Robinson. a running game would be a plus, but there's still time for one to emerge.
ckp160
Weren't we a passing team in 08 and 09? I don't remember those as particularly great seasons.
hawaiiirish
They may not have been great seasons my friend, and we all may wish for a balanced attack that can bury you at the LOS or go over the top and burn you. But that's just NOT US in 2013. My advice is to accept it, embrace it , and enjoy when things go well. Will tommy face some defense that shuts him down leaving us with little else to do but LOSE---YEP HE LIKELY WILL & MAYBE A FEW TIMES-- That's life though-- Our pass catchers & our veteran QBs skill at pre-snap reads is what we have to offer this season sans EG. Lets have some fun--LET IT RIP== try and play some freakin defense ! aloha's go irish!
ckp160
I actually think we can be balanced.

ckp160
then u dont remember the defense those seasons either I do remember the defense. It was bad. However, the lack of running game certainly didn't help. That is all.
Parseghians theorem
tommy at 1000 yards every three games? 7 TDs too. on pace to gain nearly 4,000 yards and 28 TDs. sounds identical to clausen senior year .... i:faint: lets see if it happens
OlympiaIrishFan
Yes--Claussen yardage. The major difference in Jimmy's JR year he had 4 pics, and didn't turn it over on a huge rate against good defenses. Tommy does. that is the huge issue IMO. Jimmy's most INTS happened against a bad Washington team. at least he is getting the yardage, we could be sitting here with him not doing that. NDhoosier
Prepare to join the ranks of Hoosier and Bada for an embarrassingly miscalculated season prediction... like your 8-5 prediction last year. How did that work out for you? :smash:
ndomer4
Your right about the o-line being more of a pass block o-line than a run block o-line. Instead if we want to run I think we need the pass to open it up, also some better playcalling would help. I saw one poster said that's why we'll lose to MSU. I haven't watched MSU this year I just know they have a good defense. However I'm pretty confident in putting TJ, Daniels, Niklas, and Brown against their best and telling them to stop it.
