nd1989 216
I've kind of been neutral on the Tommy thing, but tonight he won this game for us. The game started rough for everyone, but he seemed to be one of the first to correct some things, calm down and start to move the offense. He opened up in the second half and played great. 309 yards, 20-33, 2TDs, 0 INTs. Nice numbers -- real nice. He multiple times gathered the offense and provided leadership. NDNorm 50
This was the most impressed I've ever been by the kid. I thought he showed great command and poise when we really needed it.

The most impressed you've ever been with tommy was during his performance against the worst Purdue team in 10 years despite the fact that the Purdue game is always his most stat friendly game? In other words, it was his worst game against a team that pads his stats each year. Is that all it takes? A win ?
hawaiiirish 62
He played pretty good--BUT CREDIT ALSO VERY DUE TO TJ & DAVARIS some awesome plays-- that's what MAKING PLAYS is all about! aloha's
hawaiiirish 62
Echo--its been three games, tommy has been pretty good overall given he was not out first choice of a starter. Compared to the DEFENSE and the RUN game Tommy is looking like an AA aloha's
tdnd81 2
I will give tommy some love but damn purdue is terrible at the game of football and ND barely won. A NC contender would have won 52-14 But hey no int's for tommy. I will take the W

Yes!, it's my opinion - all things considered - Tommy looked as good as I've seen him look. And I've been one of the biggest critics of him his whole career. OlympiaIrishFan 0
Tommy played really well. WE needed him too. But, Tommy usually plays well to really well against mediocre teams. And that is what Purdue is. the problem with Tommy is when he plays good defenses. When that happens he is a turnover machine and usually loses the game. Now, saying that. Tommy played well and we needed it, Good Job and congrats Tommy. Take the good thoughts, you get enough heat (by me especially here). Good job, and Go Irish. VCDomer 75
Tommy did not win this game. We didn't finally and at last GIVE THE GAME away. Our defense did everything to tell the offense that they must do better and WIN GAMES. Our coaches should be credited for not losing the game and being capable of keeping the boys in the game to be able to outlast Purdont. I continue to be seriously uninspired by CBK and his in game coaching. Where is the killer instinct in this team or any CBK team?

I share your concern about the overall talent of our athletes and coaches, however Tommy did throw for 300+ Yards and 2 touchdowns. So it still ranks in his top performances against teams in general. Many dropped balls tonight from our receivers. Tommy still locks on way too early. The number one problem of this team does not start with number 10. The defense past the the front 3-5 is gonna keep us out the BCS game. Like many predicted. Stack the box and beat us.

Yes!, it's my opinion - all things considered - Tommy looked as good as I've seen him look. And I've been one of the biggest critics of him his whole career. Tommy looked as good as you've seen him? Really? In the first qtr Tommy had 28 passing yards. In the first half he was 8-17 and nearly had the ball picked off three times. He constantly stares down receivers. Just look at the 9:25 mark in the 2nd qtr. Then at the 9:00 mark in the same qtr. At the 9:00 mark the corner jumped the route because Tommy was telegraphing his pass. Same thing at the 7:50 mark in the 2nd qtr. Just because the guy has a decent 2nd half does not mean he has been as good as one has seen him. Tommy is to inconsistent. Tommy's overall performance is (FAIR) at best. There are quite a few more instances that one could point out but it is not necessary. Tommy, for whatever reason is the best option for the team and that is all there is to it. But this was no where near a great or good performance by Tommy. Really turned the game around for us. Note Tommy got the game ball in the post game. He deserved it.

His stats in this game were similar to his stats in the other two games from this season. For a guy that's taken three years of heat, he is the biggest reason for whatever competiveness we've demonstrated this season.

So since Tommy received the post game ball we should anoint him the next Joe Montana due to his second half performance against the team that got scorched by Cincinnati and who barely beat Indiana state? Don't start pretending that Purdue is a top-tier team that Tommy annihilated. Tommy had a fair game that's all,not good, not great, fair. Tommy is the reason that teams stack the box and it kills our running game. Tommy played a good game but he did not win the game for us. He had a couple of long passes but missed so many more short to mid range. Look at his pass protection vs Purdue`s.
Shamrocker 0
Hard for me to knock Tommy. I think he's played beyond my expectations at this point. If our defense was better we'd be 3-0. We're lucky to have him and I'm glad he didn't transfer years ago. We're an average team right now but without Tommy we'd be looking at a 5-6 win season at best. I do worry about MSU. Outside of Stanford I think that will be Tommy's hardest game to do well. Running game and defense needs to show up for that game.
