Further, you can only buy what they sell. What if I really want a Scott Daly jersey? Sure, maybe I could order it somewhere, but if I'm shopping spur of the moment at the bookstore, my options are limited.

Hammes would have a new wing just for team jerseys
toddrhodes
At least someone is trying to be creative about this whole mess. I am as torn on this subject as I can think of when it comes to college sports. Sure the scholarships are incredibly worthwhile but uh, given the athletes' dedication to academics at what, 90% of schools in the NCAA? I don't think they really see much, if any benefit in the real world. I could be overstating it but just because you have a piece of paper doesn't mean you know jack squat about anything. Domer Dude
It's not a Te'o jersey. It's a #5 jersey that many have worn before and many will wear again. This is getting ridiculous. Special order shirts with names. Limit sales to one per person, per address, ettc so someone doesn't buy 500.
marcwithglasses
Desmond Howard needs to shut up... He probably made cash at michigan during the fab five money making days, but $50,000+ annually "benefits" include room and board, etc, plus a college degree. The fab five made $616,000 from their financial relationship or whatever you want to call it. Players benefit too, it's not all about "straight cash homie" michigan. Green Goblin
Why not just let the kids sell their signatures?
Parseghians theorem
Why not just let the kids sell their signatures? this might be the best path. players can independtly profit off their name if they have achieved enough on the field to be profitable. bit would probably create poor team chemistry if you have ballers on the team but a couple broke offensive lineman blocking for you. would it be legal for star player to give money to lessor players? marcwithglasses
SEC players autographs would be worth thousands of dollars?
marcwithglasses
so everyone would play for the school that'd shell out the most cash for their signature
Parseghians theorem
autograph worth nothing until you do something on the field ...
marcwithglasses
boosters pay for autographs to get players and keep players at their school, so the actual worth is irrelevant

You guys are amazing in your various ways to keep money from these kids while everyone else makes money off of their labor... What about the free education? ND costs $60,000 a year. They get that and never have to pay the interest of student loans. Another poster relayed in the ball park that could compound to $1.3 million. I'd love to hear your suggestion on what to do. I only said the jersey thing probably wouldn't work.
NDhoosier
no benefits, no nothing. Free education is enough, they are students. -End-
