Kelly records that make my brain hurt

The biggest frustration I had last night was obviously at the feet of a defense that is utterly incapable of beating Dual Threat QBs.(They are now 1-8 against mobile QBs, excluding games against the service academies)

But close was Brian Kelly, once again, sh**ting his pants at the first sign of adversity and throwing the ball like he's got mid-00's Peyton Manning. 53 pass attempts? Unacceptable. It's not like we were 3 scores back at any point. We're now 4-7 in games where Kelly has asked his QB to throw more than 40 times, with all four wins coming against bad Pitt and Purdue teams.

Now to the point above, in games where we are behind by 2+ scores in the first half... Kelly is 1-7, with '12 Pitt being the lone win.

So if you want to beat ND, if your team has a Dual Threat QB, consider it a win.(which bodes poorly for us against Stanford and Oklahoma, as both feature mobile QB's) If you can get us to throw the ball more than 40 times, you have a 2 to 1 chance of winning. And finally, if you can establish an early lead, it's game over.

Weren't you the guy that was telling us how bad Michigan was across the board? The fact is, Kelly has lost to Michigan 3 out of 4 times, that's completely pathetic.

Spread teams use "numbers in box" to determine run or pass.

General rule is...if there are 6 in the box= pass....5 in the box run.

With Tommy Legend (whom I love but drives me loco) teams are gonn put 6 in the box and make Rees beat them with the pass.

Adjustments must be made due to his limited ability.

That's the killer of loosing Golson for the year.

I'm still not convinced Michigan isn't bad...We'll see what their final record is, I still think 8-4 is their high water mark...

The recipe to beat Kelly teams was effectively confirmed Saturday night. Have a mobile QB, make us throw, game over.

There was no need to put anyone in the box. Even though we were able to run when we wanted to, Kelly basically threw up a middle finger to any semblance of a running game. 19 attempts? Really Brian?

The sad thing is that if it turns out to be another 8-5 season or worse does everyone stop claiming Brian Kelly is the next great ND coach? That would be 3 underachieving seasons and one overachieving. I don't know about everyone else, but 75% of the time on the negative side is not my idea of success. Any realistic person knew that with Rees at the helm the offense would more than likely suffer, but the defense looks way worse than the offense at this point. Is everyone still worried about Diaco running away for some head coaching job now?

Honestly at this point I'm sick of watching the same anemic offense. Even with Golson at the helm near the end of last year, it always seemed to be so SLOW. The two common excuses have been QB play (Rees, Crist), and Kelly "recognizing" that having a great defense means he doesn't need to have a fast strike high output offense like at Cincy. I don't want this to come off as me Kelly bashing, because I do think he is a great coach and we're lucky to have him, but guess what-his QB's weren't All-Americans at Cincy and ND's defense might not be that great. Lets take the training wheels off the offense and pick of the the tempo. What's the point of having a spread offense that runs the play clock down between every snap? PICK UP THE PACE PLEASE.

Couldn't agree more. Why was he throwing on first down when we were consistently getting 5 yards when we ran on first? And not only was he throwing on first down, but throwing with an EMPTY BACKFIELD - so there wasn't even the THREAT of running.. so frustrating..

Here's how I saw most drives going...

1st down : Inexplicably throwing with an empty backfield - Tommy missing a wide receiver.

2nd down : Everyone and their brother knows we're going to run it, we run it, gain 1-3 yards.

3rd down : Forced to pass it due to down and distance.

Drove me absolutely crazy.. Tommy played like sh*t and our coaching staff did nothing to bail him out, even though we were running well.. This one's on CBK and crew.

This game was eerily similar to that USC Debacle in 2011. We get down by two scores and the coaching staff utterly abandons the run.

But at least vs UsC ND was down all game.

ND tied it at 10. Then trailed by 7 with the ball and over 10 minutes left. No reason no to use the run more, especially especially after a 15 yard run on the opening play of the game deciding drive.

After we tied the game and got the ball back (after Michigan went up 7 again) Kelly/Martin called 13 pass plays out of the next 15 plays. No reason for that when we owned the LOS against them.

And thats gonna hurt us all season along with tommy's inability or refusal to run. My grandmother could have picked up 5 yds on that play where he threw that ist INT.
