Why are we throwing to GAIII so much??? I don't understand this!!!

That's not playcalling necessarily.

Its a pass play and if there's nothing down the field, you are supposed to dump it off to your RB.

GA3 just can't catch. Only pin that on the coaches for having him out there. He shouldn't start over Amir or Greg Bryant because of these limitations.

I disagree, he still needs carries. he ran a great game. Same as Amir did. But I wish Bryant woulda played.

My main beef is why do we not run on first down?

I know Tommy's turnover at the end of the first half put us in a bit of a bind but we should have pulverized them up front and stopped putting ourselves in 3rd and long.

Oh well. That game sucked balls.

How about why didn't we blitz Gardner more? He was 80% last night on downs that ND's D didn't. Guy has been a int machine when he's pressured. Not Diaco's best night.

I was going to start a thread - DUMP DIACO. But I figured I would just respond to this.

It was not a good night for the D, and frankly, I'm surprised how poorly prepared this defense is after returning 8 starters. I'm also surprised at the defensive playcalling.

I agree! i would have been blitzing Gardner the entire game. The entire game! And then when you blitz, the defender needs to be in the receivers pocket, not letting him turn around with no one there (aka inside line backer play).

So that's it to me -- defensive playcalling and defensive preparedness. INDEFENSIBLE!!

LOL

Last year everyone was hailing Diaco as a genius and talking about locking him up now, after one game, he's an idiot that has to go. Haha

I'm not panicking that much, yet. I will say I was very disappointed with our DBs. Where were they?

I feel the DB situation has to be 50% coaching and 50% players executing because there were just so many Michigan players wide-open all night long it was disgusting. Even when we were rushing 4 and dropping 7, there were STILL Michigan players with 10 yards between them and the nearest Irish player. How does that happen?

It made DG seem like he was Tom Brady or Peyton Manning out there.

Our DBs are still young... it showed.

Our ILBs are too slow ... and the others too inexperienced.

Our DL ... only looks good if the other elements are doing their job.

And, repeating other threads... we lost the leader of each of those levels from last year - Zeke on DB, Manti at LB & KLM at DL.

I hope the D players find themselves in this loss... they know what it is to win, and i hope they understand or better appreciate those little details that made them winners last year.

IMO, Nix has to step-up and take on a leadership role... it really should be his D now... he's the best player.

OK, I have one better for you.

Your idea, of thinking my idea of dumping diaco is indefensible, is indefensible.

I feel like we're back to grade school with comments like this.

I've seen the other threads here today and frankly, it is embarrassing how short our fans' memories are. It's just another offshoot of thus flipping instant-gratification culture we have become. Dumping Diaco after one poor performance that he is not solely responsible for? God help us all if the person who said that actually has to manage people OR expectations.

We are not a team that can win having to score 41 points.

We should not be a team that only runs 20 or so times a game with our OL.

Two QBs in a row what've been the leading rusher against us. We have stopped the opponents running game almost completely except for the QB.

Our passing game has been very good.

Michigan played well but it seems as if we did not manage the game well. We needed to keep them off the field and win the TOP battle but did not do it.

At least Niklas has now emerged.

We are not as tough this year. Tough guys need to emerge.

It is just frustration. No need to dwell too much on it.

I also do not want to dwell too much on Martin calling only 20 or so run plays.

The only think I want to dwell on is the need to get more of a running game (Bryant and Folston?) and get the defense to play tough like last year.

This is the time to lose. I did not expect 12-0.

Agree completely. Tommy for the most part managed the game well. GA3 and TJ letting passes fall through their hands? I doubt we see many more throws in 3's direction the rest of the season. Calls for dumping Diaco??? Really? Look, Oklahoma barely beat WVU at home, USC looks pretty bad. BYU might be tougher than expected but ND should and probably will win that game. I wouldn't be surprised if ND hasn't lost another game going in to Stanford. I never expected ND to go to the championship game, and I doubt most of the DD posters did either. Chillax, people. It's football season! It don't get much better than that!
