corysold
Tommy Rees can inject himself into the Heisman discussion this weekend. I didn't say he can become the leader. I didn't say he'd win it. But he can, I think, get into the discussion at least, which is pretty amazing for someone of his skills. Basically, if he recreates the positive stats from his last trip to Ann Arbor, he'd finish somewhere are 25-35 320 yards 3-4 TD's 0-1 INT's. If he does that and ND wins, that puts him as QB of a fringe top 10, national contender, who happens to be the most polarizing team in America. His stats would be among the best in the nation of QB's. He'd have a LONG way to go to stay in the race, but for a week or two, he'd be in the discussion, which is a long way from second or third QB, which he was in the spring. Good for him. Good for him. 500-600 yards passing. 5 or 6 TDs and then we are talking. but everyone would just say michigan sucks instead of giving ND the credit anyway. Pregame
If Tommy Rees wins the Heisman, I may actually die of laughter. To be honest, it'd be an enjoyable way to go out.

Parseghians theorem
I think what Cory means is that if Rees has an amazingly phenomenal game it could be the spark that would have to happen for Rees to ever win the Heisman. Imagine this: Tommy has great game. Ron Jaworski says Tommy is best QB in college football ... ever. WNDU picks up the story Sportscenter runs the comments all day. AP and SI pick it up Deadspin picks up the story about the non-story. Tommy wins the heisman. Tommy actually goes to NFL to become the greatest QB of all time. OH BOY!! corysold
This is a joke thread right?! Not at all. I don't Tommy is a great QB. But, I also think the Heisman is sort of a joke these days. Therefore, I truly believe that if Tommy throws for 300+ and 3-4 TD's in a convincing Irish win, that his name will come up in Heisman discussion. That doesn't mean he is a good QB, only that he will have joined the discussion. He'd have a long way to go for any more than that, but for a guy who was 3rd string in spring ball, I think that is pretty cool.
hawaiiirish
NEVER going to see tommy and Heisman mentioned in the same name cory--- Even though your HYPOTHESIS is sound on the stat side---he had the #6 QB rating last week---lets ASSUME (a dangerous thing to do ) that he has a great night with 300 yards & 3 TDs --- There are SO SO many guys the pundits have invested in for being the top player and Tommy has been essentially DISMISSED from those same pundits as a setback for ND over Golson--THEY SIMPLY WILL NEVER CONSIDER HIM! That said--- What matters is if tommy can just PLAY WELL---Don't forget, tommy has a tendency to have a strong game like the temple game--and then has struggles when he steps up against a better defense.--LETS JUST HOPE FOR CONSISTENCY rather then heisman fantasies, NO PICKS would be Heismany enough for me-- aloha's

While a name like Jameis Winston finds itself in the discussion after a nice performance against Ohio(just Ohio..) Tommy looking good and beating Michigan in a game the entire country will be tuned into(it's a barren slate of games in that time slot) and coupled with a match-up against what looked like an AWFUL Purdue...he could look real 'purty going into the game against Sparty.
