Ha, this might be bullcrap, but it is worth it just to read people's comments at the bottom.

"Calling out Skip Bayless or Mark May for making stuff up on camera is like calling the "slow" kid for double dribble on the basketball court..."

""This is not an historical... Are you kidding me? I mean, I grew up, I couldn't wait for all those Hercules movies, going back to Steve Reeves."

Classic.

@RealSkipBayless: Sorry, messed up today in frantic Final Take. Reached for the many ND-Mich games I've watched, thought of Bubba Smith. Obviously Mich STATE.

@RealSkipBayless: I watched '66 ND-MichSt in living room in OklaCity outraged Ara sat on ball, played for 10-10 tie. Wish I'd known Stevie A Smith then.

So this is his explanation? Lol glad to see he can use google to look up a game bubba smith played against ND and act like he watched it. Also notice no explanation on the games he "grew up watching" against Michigan.

Yep, Skip may be lying to cover a lie. That game wasn't a national TV game and was shown tape delayed to much of the country. Not sure it would have been shown at all in Oklahoma.

It is exaggeration at best, and even exaggeration has no place in journalism, IMO. Worst case, it's lying and yes, that is indefensible for a journalist. Do we not have standards anymore?

http://deadspin.com/how-espn-manufactures-a-story-colin-kaepernick-edition-1185400028

Read the whole thing. It's incredible...

Step 1: Ron Jaworski goes on SportsCenter Wednesday at a little after noon and says something absolutely ridiculous: "I truly believe Colin Kaepernick could be one of the greatest quarterbacks ever."

Step 2: SportsCenter replays that clip less than an hour later. "Strong words from Jaws!"

Step 3: A reporter at 49ers camp asks Colin Kaepernick, "Ron Jaworski said today he thought you could be the greatest quarterback of all-time, the best quarterback ever. How do you deal with praise and stuff in this off-season and what not?" That full question—and Kaepernick's response—are later broadcast on SportsCenter.

Step 4: Steve Levy goes on the 11 p.m. SportsCenter and talks about what Jaworski had to say.

Step 5: Steve Young comes on SportsCenter to do a spot on Jaws's opinion.

Step 6: San Francisco's ABC affiliate does a segment dedicated to it. ABC and ESPN are both owned by Disney.

Step 7: SportsCenter replays Jaws's hot take several times overnight. SportsCenter anchor Jonathan Coachman reports that Kaepernick is "humbly appreciative of all this greatest-ever talk." All this greatest-ever talk.

Step 8: The AP writes up a story about Jaworski's take. (So does SI.)

Step 9: ESPN picks up the AP story.

Step 10: ESPN puts the AP story on the front page of ESPN.com with the headline, "Jaworski praises Colin Kaepernick."

Step 11: ESPN Radio's Mike Golic plays the clip and dedicates one of his first segments to it on Thursday morning.

Step 12: A topic for the morning SportsCenter. "Jaws made a little bit of news yesterday!" Jaworski comes on with Adam Schefter to talk about what he said. And then Jaworski says that Kaepernick answered the question—that is, a question from the reporter about Jaworski's take—perfectly.

Step 13: Jaws goes on another edition of SportsCenter. "I'm going to stick to what I said!" he said, laughing hysterically.

Step 14: Jaworski goes on First Take to talk about it with Skip Bayless. "You put it on Tebow," Jaworski tells him.

1. ESPN is sports ENTERTAINMENT.

2. They are filling 24 hours of programming every day, on like 8,456 channels.

3. Jaws is paid to give his opinion. He did. The numbers for the first few games between Montana, Young and Kap are similar.

4. You can't blame a ESPN for a local station picking up the comments. But in this case KGO7 is an owned-and-operated station. This is a little different than say an affiliate who is owned by a separate broadcasting company but airs network content. The affiliate isn't owned by the network station. We also can't blame SI or AP writing a blurb on it. But at the same time, the internet changes what goes up and out to people. More content, more views, more money. That gets to a point you will see later.

5. We don't know if that was an ESPN reporter asking Kap about the comments in the locker room. I'm guessing not.

6. ESPN always regurgitates all their content on all their shows (PTI, FirstTake, sports nation, around the horn).

7. Deadspin is doing the same thing ESPN is doing. Creating a story where there isn't one. And mind you it was Deadspin who did break the Manti stuff, but wrote it in a way to paint Manti as the bad guy to sensationalize the story.

8. Each time this was brought up it was credited to Jaws.

9. ESPN wants to self plug their analysts, columnists, etc. They do this to keep an opinion going. JOURNALISM IS A BUSINESS. It always was and always be. there is money involved (and maybe not a lot of money everywhere, but a crap load at ESPN).

10. This does show you how ESPN works in self promoting in different ways. It is interesting to read no matter what.

11. The Huffington Post sees more traffic than about any other news site on the web. They are aiming to make money. They post just about anything that leaves you scratching your head. But the people running the show know that people will read anything and everything. And then they will comment on it. leave opinions, share it on Facebook, tweet it out. ESPN probably loves that this is all over the place.

Going to read that at home tonight. The thing is, we all understand there is "hype" that the cheerleaders at BSPN routinely engage in. The other thing that has to be understood are the sources: Mark May and Skip Bayless. They have the journalistic integrity of a vintage sofa, so yes, I do believe they are literally just making **** up to try and prove a point. A silly, petty point, but that doesn't matter to those hackjobs.

The thing that pisses me off, is this douche of a network single handledly blew up the conferences, they split up Texas/TAMU, essentially forcing ND to join the ACC as a precaution. And now they act like we're the bastards breaking up this series. Conference realignment is a product of the Longhorn Network and the SEC TV deal.

Wasn't the creation of the Lonhorn Network and SEC Network/TV deal just a response by ABC/ESPN/Disney to the Big Ten Network which was created by the Big Ten and has been making money hand over fist and been a great revenue stream for Big Ten teams. I think that is the carrot they used to lure Nebraska to the Big Ten so they could get a champiohship game ( in response to SEC championship game). That move was what started all the conference realignment IMO.
