August 18, 201311 yr Good thread and I like your list. I'd be surprised if Zaire doesn't play this year, honestly. I would LOVE to see him run this offense and the option some with all these playmakers. It'll be interesting to see how the qb position unfolds this season. Kelly says Hendrix is locked in as the #2. Maybe, that is the case for right now. Doubt it will be for the entire year though.
August 18, 201311 yr I think Heuerman and Deeb are an injury away from playing. I have read very good comments on Fuller. If he had been here in the spring, I think he would be playing but 3 frosh receivers is a bit much. I think Fuller waits unless he shows good return skills. How big is he? I thought he was small but I saw a reference that he was almost the size of Daniels. If so that is exciting. He allegedly has the wiggle and quicks of a smaller receiver. Even better, he allegedly has hands like Corey Robinson has shown.
August 18, 201311 yr probable more frosh then any other year will end up seeing action--going to be very interesting aloha's

Doubt he plays this year. I doubt Fuller plays either at 171. He, also, needs to put weight on. These guys aren't in high school anymore and need to get bigger accordingly.
August 18, 201311 yr I would move Zaire down to redshirt I would move Fuller up to definitely playing I would move Deeb up to possibly, he will probably play ST. Kinlaw could be in the same boat as Deeb.

Kinlaw could be in the same boat as Deeb.I'd love to see Zaire redshirt, but just think he's too talented to keep off the field this season. Not buying into Rees making it through the entire season (performance wise or health). Hendrix has been inconsistent during his play at ND before. Fuller is not playing this year. Way too many guys ahead of him, and he's too small. Deeb possibly, I agree. Kinlaw doubtful. B-Jax, Russell, Luke, J Atkinson, Butler, and Jalen Brown are all ahead of him. He hasn't even played cornerback that much and had a bad injury last year. Maybe an outside chance he plays special teams, but very doubtful he plays corner at all in 2013. Definitely would prefer to redshirt Kinlaw this year as his potential is very high.

I did not know he was doing that well. I am really glad we got him. I know others thought we did not need him but I saw a need to reload with TEs with bulk that could block.
August 18, 201311 yr Good for Smythe. I did not know he was doing that well. I am really glad we got him. I know others thought we did not need him but I saw a need to reload with TEs with bulk that could block.I think he's very underrated. He's got great size and hands. Love the 6'6" height. I, also, like Weishar coming in next season. I could almost see Heureman being more of a receiver at ND. For what it's worth, Prister was very high on Heureman coming out of hs so confident the kid will factor in down the road.
August 18, 201311 yr My predictions for the Frosh Good list. For my part, agree with the definitely list, and would put Deeb and Zaire in the playing list. Regardless of where Zaire falls in the depth chart, he is a play away from being the backup, and I am guessing that BK will want to rip that band-aid early and start getting him burn, vs. having the kid not mentally prepared to go in.

I was reading the Heuerman was more like Eifert as. Combo TE receiver type who xan spilt wide. Smythe was the more traditional TE. Nice combo basically. If we get Luatua to go with Weishar, that would be two excellent TE classes in a row.
August 18, 201311 yr I think Fuller doesn't redshirt, he could add a spark even with his size. Also, Zaire can't be red shirted when we only have 2 other QB's. Unless, Rees dominates and doesn't get hurt then yes possibly red shirt him.
August 19, 201311 yr I think Fuller doesn't redshirt, he could add a spark even with his size. Also, Zaire can't be red shirted when we only have 2 other QB's. Unless, Rees dominates and doesn't get hurt then yes possibly red shirt him.Maybe Fuller plays but just think we're to a point, as a program, where we should redshirt him and play the guys in front of him especially since a weight gain would be beneficial in his case. Corey Robinson will be the only frosh wr to play in 2013 imo. Him and Niklas on the field should be a very nice combo, size wise.
August 19, 201311 yr I would move Zaire down to redshirt I would move Fuller up to definitely playing I would move Deeb up to possibly, he will probably play ST. Kinlaw could be in the same boat as Deeb. I think Zaire needs the experience more than a redshirt.
August 19, 201311 yr I think Zaire needs the experience more than a redshirt.Agreed. Also, it's no sure thing that Golson returns next year. Zaire would be excellent in a Chuck Martin coach offense which loves to run also. Redshirt Kizer next year though, as he's supposed to be uber talented but quite raw.

August 19, 201311 yr Author A bunch of posts have said Deeb as a possible but from everything Ive read is he has a Ways to go. That is what is being reported. Hes not ready from just about every site. At best, he would be 5th at ILB but more likely 6th. I think being 5th or 6th on depth chart is a definite redshirt. Kelly says Zaire is clearly #3 so Why waste a year on sub packages and mop up time? From my possibly playing, I would say fuller is closest to playing time. If we could save a year for 14 guys in this class, that would be a good sign. Let them develop
August 19, 201311 yr You're wrong. Both Onawalu and Fuller will play this year...Onwaula certainly has a chance to play but slot is getting filled up quickly especially with TJ back there now from the latest reports. Also, how are you so confident Fuller plays? Martin calls the plays now not Kelly and we have Rees at qb not Golson. Expect more running and less downfield passing. Why would the staff play Fuller this year when Daniels, Robinson, Prosise, TJ, Onwuala, and arguably Smith are ahead of him at receiver? We're plenty deep enough at receiver now to redshirt him and allow him to bulk up. We don't need him this season frankly to sacrifice a valuable year of future eligibility.

August 19, 201311 yr Don't forget about special teams. Deeb might not be able to play ILB right now, but I'd bet he can run down on kickoff and make a tackle. Other guys might fit into punt teams and such. I know Kelly wants to play more starters and guys in the 2-deep on special teams, but you need depth on these as well. You don't want to waste every freshman just for special teams, but there is a role there for them to be sure.
