I have USC as the #1 team I hate and would love to smash every year. I relish a victory over Meeeeesheeeegan, but I also respect them for their history and the way they do it. But, over the past 6 years I have grown to hate Stanford almost as much as USC. It is a very close second. Maybe it had to do when captain comeback joined them and the arrogance of the program now. I liked them better when they were the ugly ginger stepchild of the Pac 10. Once in awhile beating USC and one other good team every other year (as long as it wasnt ND). After we beat them last year, the incessant whining by their fan base about the goal line stand gave me gas. They couldn't accept the fact that we actually beat them. Luck and Harbaugh spoiled them. I actually believe we are going to see a drop off from them now. Nothing would make me more happy. I know many on here believe Shaw is a formidable coach and will keep the program moving in the direction Harbaugh had them moving. I just don't believe that is the case. They have a favorable schedule this year with getting Washington, Oregon, ASU and UCLA at home. I see 3 losses on that schedule all the same. IMHO

For me, it's the close resemblance to ND as far as academics and player entrance requirements are concerned that earns my respect for Stanford. When you can win when at such an incredible disadvantage to SEC schools, USC, etc. you get my admiration. Winning the right way, recruiting within the NCAA rules, and forcing your players to maintain a respectable GPA when doing it (even higher than ours) says a lot about a school.

I did hear a comment from the Power Hour Podcast on Stanford. Apparently their front line play on both sides is still uber physical. They will be a formidable foe. I thought we would have seen a decline by now post Harbaugh but we have not. Allegedly, their recruiting has not been as good so the chinks in the armor should start to appear.

It is ironic but I suspect they hate us as well for pilfering Tyrone Willingham. Quite frankly, they got the better end of that deal. It worked out poorly for us and very well for them.

I love seeing a school win and win the right way. Lots of respect for Stanford and hope they continue a strong program.

so you liked them when they lost and hate them because they win.

also, had the outcome been reversed in last year's game and we thought we scored, there would be a bevy of posters here continuing to whine about getting ripped off. (how long did people complain about the reggie bush push)?

Yeah... Yeah..... I get all that. Maybe so. So they are our ugly ginger stepchild... All the same... Go back to being that nice little team from Palo Alto with the dorky band and hippy lettuce smoking fanbase.

Here's my take on our rivalries:

Stanford has been ok in my book because of their common academic requirments...but they have taken on this attitude like the punk little brother that has won a game or two. All of their players are punks (except Stephan Taylor and Andrew Luck)...

USC, I actually respect due to their tradition

Michigan State: Annoying cousin, but knows his place

Purdue: what rivalry?

Boston College: Brother that's not nearly as talented as you, but knows you so well, he knows how to mess with you

Michigan: I HATE HATE HATE Michigan...of all the blue bloods (Notre Dame, USC, OSU, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas) they have probably the most overrated resume...Sure they have the most wins, but that's because they're one of the first to ever play the damn game, and just beat up on schools barely learning to play the game...ONE shared NC in the past 50-60 years and they thump their chest.

Me personally. In regards to our "rivalry games". This is what i feel.

Stanford - Respect this team more than any other on the list because of the academic side of the school. Love him or hate him, Harbaugh brought a lot of respect back to that program

Purdue - Hasnt been much of a rivalry since Brees left, but since they are in Indiana and I grew up in Indiana and my wife's grandfather (graduated from there) and father love them they just annoy me.

Michigan State - Every year i think we are a better team then they are but dont play as well as we should because of coming off the Michigan game. Also it annoys me that they always seemed to start the season out rated high but finish with a dud. I do respect their coach, that fake field goal a couple years ago took balls of steel IMHO.

Boston College - November 20th, 1993. Thats what i will always remember BC for. We could beat them 50 years in a row and I will still remember that day. MY 13th birthday one week removed from beating FSU and becoming Number 1.

U$C & Michigan - Its a tie, I truly cant stand either. I am disappointed because we wont play Michigan because I like hating them. U$C I used to respect prior to Carroll, no more though. They cheated the whole time he was there and the NCAA didnt start to care until Saban got Alabama moving.

I HATE Michigan with a passion. That is all

I totally agree. I HATE Michigan.

Am I crazy or did Notre Dame actually pass them in overall win percentage last year??? I swear I read that somewhere.

Don't mind Stanford, but really don't care for Shaw at all. He seems to always have an excuse when they lose.

This. I have very little hate for them or Navy.

The only things I hate about Stanford are the morons in their band and that stupid a$$ed tree mascot...

Couldn't agree more! If I could root for one other team to win it all it would hands down be Stanford. I hate michigan by far the most. I line in Michigan an they have the biggest bandwagon fan base ever. As soon as they win a couple games the Walmart wolverines start to come out of the woodwork. For the love of god I hope we beat them this year so I don't have to deal with all there bullshit.
