Tommy looks pretty good, I want to get my hopes up but i'll use restraint for the time being. Team certainly looks good though , looks like kickoff is a week away not 3 or 4---so that is a good thing---

Nice! Yeah, Tommy looks really good! It's hard not to get hopes up after seeing that run. He did a really good job of tucking the ball and running it in for the TD. I didn't like the way TJ came down after that catch towards the end. It looked like he landed on his shoulder/arm and hit the ground hard.

No kidding. I can't believe posters still doubt Tommy's potential. I'm thinking what I've been thinking for four years.

Heisman breakout campaign.

I am tempted to say you are guilty of irrational exuberance. It sure sounds good though. Okay, I will go with it and I will add 5 receptions for Niklas in the first game catapulting him into the top TE conversation.

If Niklas does not emerge as a top blocking and receiving TE, then I predict he plays LT as a pro. He is just huge.

I think I commented yesterday that I thought Rees' functional mobility improved, now I know it. He'll take 5 yards when its there now, thats all I ask.

His feet looked just has efficient as Hendrix. Mind you I did not say he is as athletic as Andrew but those feet look less like Clausen and more like Lovecchio now.

I'm a happy guy. Rees has worked real hard and looks athletic out there.

Tommy will be fine. He will make good decisions, and give our playmakers an opportunity to make plays. His mobility is not nearly as limiting as his long ball potential; but I believe Coaches Kelly and Martin will work around both and we will have a successful season. Definition of success: victory.

Damn Tommy looks way faster than he was before, he must have put some serious work in the offseason. I'm feeling a little more confident in him now, he knows the opportunity he has and he is doing some work. He's even a little bigger, so I'm hoping he can put just a tad more zip on the ball.

That Niklas catch was incredible, I remember making a thread on Niklas keeping that string of great tight ends alive. Majority of you disagreed so I made sure to bookmark it once he starts eating up defenses this year. Teams looking great!

I'm pretty sure that Tommy is like 21. I know guys who grew 4" at 21. Tommy has looked immature for his age for a long time. He looks more like a pro golfer than a QB but I still think if his arm catches up with his mind then he's going to be an animal.

I'm more impressed by his arm strength this year than mobility. His passes look better and getting out of his hand quicker. This could be big, as his arm couldn't support his bold decisions leading to untimely and excessive turnovers. Will be very cautiously optimistic going forward with him.

Tommy please prove me wrong and turn out like a stud in 2013!

Ditto. No one was harder on the kid than I was from 2010-2012...I really hope he has the kind of phoenix-esque rebirth we saw from Harrison Smith in his senior year. If Brian Kelly can turn Tommy Rees into a productive game manager, the skies the limit for this team.

I'll contain my excitement on Tommy all of a sudden becoming a runner based on one clip where he was wearing a red no-contact jersey.

If we're going to win games this year, it's because Tommy has improved as a decision maker, not because we all of a sudden will be able to run zone read with the guy. I'm hoping for a solid, steady season from Rees -- if we get that, we're going to be tough to beat every Saturday.

Yeah, the idea that a player goes from three seasons of plodder to a dual threat is pretty absurd.

I'll be happy if Tommy can make 75% of the needed throws and if he picked up enough "mobility" to escape pressure on occasion. To expect much more is just being overly optimistic.

I don't know if anyone's saying he's a mobile qb but he looks noticeably faster than the last time we saw him as the starter. I'm just hoping he has enough mobility to escape rushers and buy more time in the pocket to find that open receiver. So many times in 2011 Tommy took sacks, threw the ball away, or threw too quickly because of pressure which killed us. That extra 2 or 3 seconds can make a huge difference.

He needs enough "mobility" to pick up a first down on a broken play or at least cause the LBs to hesitate slightly on a zone read counter. We're not talking Jarious Jackson speed here, I am looking for something more akin to what Brady Quinn offered.

Some notable tweets:

If it's possible for a quarterback to add arm strength and athleticism in the off-season, Tommy Rees added both.

The option getting a little bit of work with Rees and Hendrix - maybe it won't be tables until 2014.

If we come out running the option with Rees, I will fall over at Oklahoma's house from shock. No way. They need to be prepping Zaire for the option. Classic option qb. Very apparent in the spring game this year.
