I see this as a huge need commit.

Yeargin and Dickerson are not elite upper 4 star guys. They are the rank and file that you need to pave the asphalt with. They will both be in the front seven defensive rotation by the time they are juniors if not before. If they qualify and earn a 5th year, they could be really productive.

These are two solid pickups in my mind at need positions.

Oh, I have read Yeargin at cat a few times now and I do not get that. We have heard Cat for Blankenship, Bonner and Yeargin now. I am going to guess it is a reflection of the recruiting with an outside in emphasis that has been mentioned here before. The ones that show they can be elite on the outside will stay there and the others move inside.

Confirmed with San Mateo, Calif., DL Matt Dickerson (6-5, 275) that he's become the 17th commitment to #NotreDame's 2014 recruiting class.

Welcome aboard Matt! ND is a great school -- you made a great choice!

I see Matt as Big Skill. Not a Cat or Dog, but DL. Maybe this growth to DT that Brian has been talking about.

I don't think anyone is saying he is a CAT prospect, and if they are, they don't really know what is going on. This guy is DL 100% and will probably play over 300lbs.

We have freshman DL who are over 275 already in Rochelle and Matusak.

Hayes should be over 280 for 2014 and so should Dickerson.

If we used the outside in philosophy, those who are best outside stay there and the others possibly move to NG.

Slowly, we are getting players who might be suitable to play NG going forward.

Not to be a debby-downer, but I can see why he is a 3*... Lack of speed, poor tackling on a few plays, and no elite first step..

With that being said, I have all faith in the staff and trust them!

Pay almost no attention to star rankings. The staf seems to be interested in getting the players for their system. I viewed the video's for Matt, and I thought he had a great video, great speed for a lineman, just wow.

Congrats Matt! Another big body that will definitely play DL 100% He may actually develop into a NG

- Also Blankenship will play DE, so that is 4 DL and 3 LB. Keep adding to this front 7! We aint done yet

- Holley, Elam and Thomas are the big names left for DL

- Carter and Williams are the big LB names

I think you are out of your mind. Watch the video below and specifically 5:30 mark. He is targeted by two OL and stops the play dead.

The dude is thick and powerful. By your logic, Louis Nix whose 1st step is not elite, complete lack of speed, and his film had him caving in the pocket like Dickerson. I'm not saying he will be Nix but I do like the fact that his offer list includes every major school on the west coast. And we out recruited guys like Tosh Lupoi, Mora, Orgeron, etc. This is huge!!!

He seems fast enough. Chases down running backs ad catches them. Clogs the lanes and shedding blocks pretty good. Hard hitter when he had the angle.

That's what I thought. You don't see that kind of speed and power out of a DLineman too often.
