Morgandonor 45
College football is calling Jadeveon Clowney's hit malicious. Now there is a rule if you hit a defensless player above the shoulders that the player will get ejected for a half and if it happens in the second half they are out for the entire half of the next game. Why don't we just put flags on them. There is nothing he could do on that play it was bang bang. It has gotten so much public attention now they want to say it is illegal. First off that hit was dead in his chest it was the force of his head going forward and then back that is what made his helmet fly off. Why are they ruining the game. If you don't want your kid to play football then teach him how to play golf or something. The powers to be are out of hand here. I can see this for receivers who are running full speed but running backs come on man....

ColinKSU 18
That's ridiculous. It was a clean hit. Also, he hit a Michigan player, so he should get a statue or something for it.
Kelly Gruene 26
I have always loved football. I'm a football fan. I have three high school-age sons, one of whom plays lacrosse. Have you watched a lacrosse game? The sport is growing and growing and growing. Lots of running, lots of action, lots of banging on each other with sticks. Very physical. However, not as much risk of concussion, not as much risk of neck injury, not as much risk of long-term cognitive deficits, not as much risk of long-term knee and back issues as football. A lot of the physicality with fewer long-term major risks (sure, there are occasional fractures, occasional concussions, but not like football). It is my belief that football, both professional and college, absolutely need to implement more safety rules. If not, I think a lot of kids in high school who previously would have played football will instead opt for lacrosse. It's kind of easy to say "no way" to this right now, but any of you who have kids who play lacrosse know this is not off-base. I haven't seen the Clowney hit, and I don't really need to. I love football and will always watch it and be a fan. But if they don't make more safety changes, I believe bad things are gonna happen to the sport. Irish Chris 79
If I'm not mistaken, the meatchicken kid even hopped right up after the play and was running behind Clowney like it didn't faze him. Just because it was a YouTube sensation doesn't mean it was super dangerous. The back wasn't even halfway to running full speed yet. Save these penalties for slants and post patterns were players are running full speed into waiting backers and safeties. Now those are dangerous hits. Morgandonor 45
They stated that the running back was defenseless because he did not have possession of the ball yet. I say that they were line less and should have blocked him.
AlabamaDuck 0
Last year in the Mich. St, game, Golson was almost down, wrapped up by two defenders and another player came flying in. He hit Golson on top of the shoulder with his helmet. Golson finished the game but against Michigan he had a badly bruised shoulder and had a very difficult time throwing the ball. If a player is wrapped up and defenseless, it should be a penalty if he is hit. IMO

I guess that means that if the QB fakes the ball to the RB and the RB is tackled, it is a penalty since he didn`t have procession of the ball. That is a very good point. That right there is why the rule is stupid. A defender should never have to second guess himself when making a play even it is because he got fooled on a play action. Some one on here said that a ball carrier who gets wrapped up could be consider defenseless if some one hits him. That I can see, but These shoot from the hip rules are not being thought out and are left with too much gray area to be determined. That is why the celebration rule is so inconsistent... Make THEM sit for a half. That play was the highlight of the year in CFB, and one of the greatest hits I've ever seen. Of *course* there should be reasonable safety measures, but quit being pansies!! Rattlesnake 54
My guess is that if this EXACT same hit happens next year, it doesn't get called.. I bet they only call it for launching or something excessively malicious.. But that's just me.
