Fall Camp

I read on ESPN that pre-season camps open up around the country at the end of July. Is this because the season officially starts on August 31st? I just wanted to ask and see if anyone on here knows if it will be late July or early August.

Definitely around the corner....but enjoy every day of summer....Time goes too quickly!

And our turmoil over the offseason will end way too soon. Then we can turmoil over who predicted what and who was right and who bailed out and who stayed the course. I am geeked over how the DD will implode/explode with experts.

Thanks for the link tdnd. I know that the season starts Aug 31st. I was asking when pre-season camp starts. Honestly guys, I pretty much just wish the summers away and i have ever since I became a Notre Dame fan. I try to enjoy the summer as much as I can though, but it's tough when all I think about is Notre Dame football. Haha!

  • 2 weeks later...

Saw this at IE and thought I would share:

- Tommy Rees and Dan Fox have taken on leadership roles

- Bennett, Lo, & Keivarae are all sharing equal reps. Expect Jackson to be the top guy in the boundary with Wood and Russell battling it out in the field.

- A lot of positive feedback about Koyack. Confidence will be a big deal with him

- Tuitt has rebounded from his hernia and looks faster and stronger than at any point last year

- Elmer is 2nd to Z Martin in Conditioning Drills. Lombard still hasn't gotten a serious look at RG. McGlinchey has a big time mean steak and could see the field sooner than most expected.

- Zaire is extremely confident and has shown amazing maturity, even reaching out to and impressing Tom Mendoza to talk business.

- Prosise, Onwualu and Grace all have also impressed.

Since practice hasn't started, what is the context? Voluntary player led drills?

Koyack emerging could be really helpful to our run and pass game. Eifert caught 50 or so balls last year. With Koyack and Niklas playing two TE sets and rotating when we have one TE, we could get 4 or so receptions out of them total a game. Two 260 lb guys on the outside of the OTs could provide the smash mouth trench play we want to establish. One would have to play off the line or split out if they were both in at the same time I think. If so, which one would do that? The one off the line would have to be the one blocking in space. Niklas has really been criticized since the Stanford game on that issue.

Nice! I love hearing this. Especially about Koyack and Tuitt. I think Koyack will be a surprise this year. I know that he isn't great at blocking, but with the two TE sets it should be fine. I really want to see what Carlisle is going to do. I feel like he could be the breakout star as long as he stays healthy!

Yes and voluntary conditioning drills with Longo

I think all are capable of splitting out. Least likely probably Welch. If he is healthy I think a 3 TE set may even show up from time to time. Heuerman being there early was big too, have to like the TE situation even though unproven. Also Efiert was not a good blocker in the beginning, give Niklas time and he could destroy people.

Nice. So Tommy is leading the offense on summer practices. Coaches obviously think very highly of him.

And Dan Fox leading the defense? I didn't expect that but that's great. he's really emerged as a leader on the team.

I've always thought that summer is where the team is made. Hopefully this summer was very productive. We'll see in a few weeks.

- Not surprised about Koyack, he has been playing outside of his strengths with Eifert being the receiving TE. Niklas and Welch will fill the traditional attached TE role while Koyack takes Eifert's place.

- Tuitt could be so good that it scares even irish fans.

- Glad to hear that about Prosise, Onwualu, and ESPECIALLY Grace. Grace is really the key to how dominate the defense can be. If Grace is average, the defense will be great, but if he is as good as the coaches make him out to be, this defense will be ELITE.

- The Oline still has me puzzled. I am kind of leaning toward Z. Martin -- Watt -- N. Martin -- Lombard -- Stanley, but for some reason Lombard is not getting looked at inside, maybe the staff simply likes what they see inside with N. Martin and Hanratty.

Thank you so much for this- been dying for even just a whiff of off-season news. I hate to beg, but they have anything on Bryant or Folston, by any chance? :)

Good stuff! So excited for media day and then fall camp! It's been one long off season. I'm also excited to see how the position battles work out and who gets them. Well, besides the obvious ones. But even those aren't guaranteed.
