Quarterback Connor Brewer got his full release from his Texas football scholarship, and said that he is open to colleges, including Arizona and Arizona State.

Then-ASU coach Dennis Erickson and offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone offered Brewer a scholarship before his senior season at Scottsdale Chaparral. Arizona also sought Brewer, who called UA “not a bad option,” especially considering his high school coach, Charlie Ragle, is an assistant coach there now.

UCLA enters the picture for Brewer now with Mazzone the OC there.

Brewer already has heard from Alabama, Notre Dame, Stanford, Duke and Tennessee.

If Gunner left ND because of competition for playing time, and this kid left UT because of competition for playing time, why would Brewer choose ND? Golson, from all accounts, is likely to be back next year. Golson, Zaire, Kizer....Brewer? I just don't see it.

I see him going to a mid major type

I wouldn't necessarily count on Golson being a slam dunk to return. Just because he says so now... doesn't gaurantee it. He still has to reapply for admission.

I believe the staff is always looking for ways to upgrade the roster talent and depth. They probably just want to talk to see if he is looking for a different school environment or playing time. If the former, we may have something to offer. If the latter, he is probably best off going somewhere else since we will not know about Golson until he actually arrives on campus in January 2014.

The staff presumably already has a file on him from the 2011 recruiting year. The must have like what the saw then.

I think any additional QB's will be back up plan for Golson.

Ideal situation with Kizer - large potential but needs a lot of work. We can go after the best 2015 QB's. If Kizer reaches potential we have best of both worlds - Great QB's for 2014 and 2015.

Any quarterback good enough for Texas is good enough for me. Sign him in a heartbeat.

Probably re-unite with Neal at u of a

Gunner left because he didn't get along with martin.

If Brewer had trouble competing at Texas he'll have no luck here. All our qbs are extremely talented and there's no way Brewer would be better than 4th string. I'd pass on this guy.

If he were coming here, I think he'd already be here.

That meaning if he were coming here, he must be thinking "well, I'll play this year since they're so thin at QB."

But obviously, he'd have to get in as soon as possible to learn the playbook. I don't really see him coming here but he'd be a good get if he did.

As a transfer from a Div 1 school to another Div 1 school, he would have to sit out the 2013 season no matter what unless he could successfully petition the NCAA that there was a contributing situation (such as an ill grandmother who lived over 400 miles from the school that he was transferring to)

Another option would be to transfer to a junior college, play this fall, get an Associates degree, enroll at any Div 1 school he wants, and then play the 2014 and 2015 seasons as well. (This is what Cam Newton did). Without getting his Associates degree, he would then have to sit out the 2014 season if he transferred from the junior college to a Div 1 program.

He wasn't interested the first time around and he won't be interested now. It says that we have contacted him---not that we are a candidate for his reception. He is staying in the PAC-12 or moving to a mid major. He doesn't even mention ND in his interviews...

I'm with the experts here when I say that he won't be heading somewhere where the QB competition is fierce....

I agree,

I'm not sure it takes an expert to know that when qb's transfer, they are not going somewhere to wear a cap.

His HS coach is now an assistant at UofA. Go ahead and lock that one in. He will be straight into the mix for a starting spot in Tucson in 2014.

As a person living in Austin, I will say that the sports radio here is not too jazzed about ANY of the University of Texas QBs. There wasn't a restocking of the position after Colt McCoy left, and Garrett Gilbert was thrown in the deep end too early. Gilbert ended up transferring, and the remaining guys are generally unimpressive the last few years.

That said, if Brewer doesn't rise to the top of THAT crowd, I wouldn't use a scholarship on him for my team.

i have heard that he has burned some bridges with the coaching staff...........mack brown not a big fan after his public intoxication arrest earlier this year....

Let the Rees-Brewer jokes begin. Go!

we'd have two AA QB's on our roster!

Don't forget Tommy's sister. She kicks *** and takes names at games.

And she would be the hottest undergrad in south bend
