Kizer's Mechanics

Recommended Posts

I finally caved and watched the recent video of Kizer throwing the ball in a 7-on-7 format and I must say.. he looks like he's throwing a baseball. Every throw that I saw, his wrist snapped in a downward motion and the ball's trajectory was shoe level. It's kind of like watching Mutombo shoot a free-throw in fast forward--straight down. Guess I see what folks are talking about when they say "project."

That's a good point. I guess the "all-sport athlete" may have a few downsides that go along with it...

But hey if our coaches felt he was good enough to get a scholarship, then I have trust in them!

I haven't been on DD in awhile, but do you know if we are going to take any other QB's along with him?? Or is he it for 2014?

Welcome back, Jordan. I haven't seen any pursuit of additional QBs in this class, but they're already working hard on 2015 kids like Beneventi.

He made a couple poor throws at the beginning, but the video quality is horrible. And you obviously didn't watch every throw because not every throw was at everyone's feet.

Gotta love the hostility on here for what was obviously a blanket statement. Yes, he threw a beautiful TD pass and I'm sure a few others. But his wrist action was still that baseball-like snapping and he still threw a lot of low zingers or balls that went straight down out of his release.

He'd be the first to admit this, too, and he'll be working on it throughout the summer and fall season to get it corrected. He's a great prospect and will only get better with coaching. Living in Toledo, I've followed him throughout the past 2 years and have seen great improvement. He's a competitor and a winner.

Hope he's inspired by not making the Elite 11 cut yesterday and can focus more on technique. I'd rather have a raw DeShone Kizer throwing shoe-shiners in high school and then progressing to be a great college passer than a sizzling Dayne Crist in high school "progressing" to be a great college grass-clipping passer.

If you love blankets and statements, Don Juan is your guy.

I couldn't even see his wrist action because the video sucks. Although, as we all know, the hand pushes outward when throwing a football.

Hand strength is integral in being able to really put great force on a football throw. Find any NFL or big time QB and I bet they have a grip that could crush any blanket statement.

That's really well thought out. Bottoms up, Sport!

Here, here! Hope everyone realizes that junior year High school QB play is not indicative of future college performances! Dayne is a PERFECT example!

Everyone in the world, except for you, can see this kid has a lot to work on with his mechanics. Whoops. Was that a blanket statement? Anyways, you go on blasting one of the most respected posters on this board, if that makes you feel better. I'm sure that will earn you a lot of friends here.

I disagreed with his take. Are you his personal turd protector?

Then you say "I disagree and here's why..." Or is it just more fun to b*tchslap a guy making an honest assessment? It's clear that Kizer has plenty of work to do, and that's okay because it will be literally YEARS until he plays (much less starts) for the Irish. If he wants to improve, he's chosen the right coaching staff.

I didn't respond, because I chose not to be pulled into his juvenile arguments. But your response is a good one.
