Big23Head
Could be a very good DE. Saw this posted elsewhere: He didn't qualify academically for Miami yet and may not. Most of the incoming UM football class – the one that started with 16 players and just kept growing after Signing Day --- has arrived on campus. That’s the good news. The discouraging news: Four key pieces to this class aren’t here because they have not qualified academically: highly-regarded tight end/receiver/basketball player Derrick Griffin and three defensive players needed to bolster a shaky pass rush: Defensive end Alquadin Muhammad, end/tackle Ufomba Kamalu and end/linebacker Devante Bond. A UM official said Tuesday that though it’s still possible Griffin might qualify, it’s not looking promising and he still has a lot of ground to make up academically. Muhammad and Kamalu also are in jeopardy --- their former coaches declined to discuss their predicament ---
BlackIrish42
I remember when this got out, a lot of people on here thought it was just a malicious rumor. But like most things that "leak" out about players, it was true... Still, I wish the young fella luck...
IanY77
Damn shame. Really talented player that the ISD guys said was a really good kid (and to pre-but the inevitable, they don't say that about everyone). Would have loved for ND to have been able to take him. Jersey Irish
How the heck did he graduate from Don Bosco Prep then?
ColinKSU
How the heck did he graduate from Don Bosco Prep then? Because he played football really well?
jbrown_9999
How the heck did he graduate from Don Bosco Prep then? Maybe its just a testing (SAT/ACT) issue.
NDhoosier
This was reported to be the reason why he didnt commit to ND. He was deemed unable to qualify and ND kind of let him go. It made sense considering ND was his favorite all the way until about 2 weeks before he committed. Now it seems those reported rumors are true. Jersey Irish
But they have admitted their share of thugs over the years. Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson made sure of that to keep their title runs going.
NDhoosier
Miami is a good university; it's just that historically, its athletes (particularly its football players) are not really held to the standard... or any standard for that matter. domeanddomer
Miami is an excellent University that completely sold out in order to have a competitive football team. Well, a competitive football team that ND has absolutely waxed twice in a row now.
Katzenboyer
But they have admitted their share of thugs over the years. Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson made sure of that to keep their title runs going. Erickson left Miami in '94. That's like holding the current squad on equal footing as the Davie years. Miami has really cleaned up its act and is a strong academic school, and a lot of people here still have inaccurate biases about it. If it was just another one of those schools that has "good academics for everyone besides athletes," then why is AQM having any trouble at all?
