Phil Steele Bowl Projections

ND3

Recommended Posts

Sugar Bowl: ND/Georgia

Other BCS games:

BCSNCG: Bama/OSU

Orange: FSU/Louisville

Fiesta: Texas/USC

Rose: Nebraska/Oregon

Other bowl games of interest:

Alamo Bowl: Stanford/OU

Outback Bowl: MSU/UF

Gator Bowl: Ole Miss/Michigan

He thinks we can make it to a BCS game without Golson. IMHO, the Michigan game will tell us everything we need to know about our chances this year. If that was the matchup, Gurley/Marshall/Murray would be extremely hard to stop- I wouldn't like our chances.

He's really high on OSU, but I can't blame him because their schedule is cupcake city.

I guess he like Texas and USC to have bounce-back years. The talent is there, but the coaching... not so much. I don't think either make it to a BCS game. Everything else seems pretty reasonable though.

if ND played UGA and won, it would be the best day ever for me...i come from a household full of UGA fans and I have to hear all of the BS during football season.

Murray makes mistakes when pressured...it doesn't take much to get in his head. he's 4-10 against ranked opponents iirc.

Gurshall (as they call their backfield) are very good backs...but ND faced a few very good backs last year as well...and held their ground with the exception of the 'bama debacle.

Doesn't seem like Phil is paying much attention to what's going on at Texas and SC.

Phil puts a lot of stock in returning starters. Texas returns NINETEEN starters(most in the nation) most of which were highly rated 4-5* kids. USC is 5th in returning starters with 15 coming back.

That NCG would BLOW!

I think Texas will be better this year. They have the talent and showed signs of improvement. USC....Hopefully the slide continues.

Georgia..bring it. I'm not afraid to see them play anyone.

I think the biggest factor with Texas is how positively weak the rest of the Big12 is going to be. The front runners from last year, KSU and OU, were gutted. The Big12 is gonna be the B1G of last year.

Good info Cody. Steele is always high on ND. I'd be pretty surprised if we make bcs at this point without Golson but it's not completely implausible. If we get a good running and if Rees plays smart, there's a chance. He can't turn into "Turnover Tommy" as Oklahoma creatively coined. Totally agree about Ohio St. The Big 10 isn't stellar currently and Miller and Meyer are the real deal.

Well, OSU would be crushed worse in a title game against Bama than we were, so that will be fun to watch. Also, USC is going to be awful. No way will they BCS. Oregon is going to play Bama...
May picked USC as one of his bounce back teams. He also said they'll win 9 or 10 games. Their oline returns nearly entirely in tact. Wittek looked horrible in the bowl game, and we know Lane can't coach. I hope we beat the polk out of these guys this year. Just crush them.

Funny, pretty soon ND fans will not be able to say this. Positive I have heard this every year of my life.

Mr Steele should really check out the BCS selection order for January 2014.

If it was Bama and OSU in BCSNCG, then Sugar and Fiesta get to pick replacements. Sugar would certainly go SEC (Georgia, in this case), and let's say Fiesta does go with Texas (reasonable amongst those teams). FSU is tied to Orange, Nebraska tied to Rose, Oregon tied to Rose.

For January 2014, the selection order then goes Orange, Sugar, Fiesta. With ND and USC on the table, anybody really think Orange is going with Louisville? I mean, I realize it is better than N. Illinois, but really?

Following his teams but using the actual selection, it would be more like...

Orange: FSU v ND

Sugar: Georgia v USC

Fiesta: Texas v Louisville

Anyway, if he can't be bothered with that little detail...well, yeah.

The Michigan game is going to be pretty intense this year, especially since it's one of the last ones remaining in this series for awhile. Really think Gardner and Hoke are going to be gunning for us. There may be a few fans there too cheering for them also lol. BK needs to have the troops ready. Don't want to overlook Temple though, of course.

I don't understand why all the hype around Gardner. I watched him play several games; he was ok at times and bad some more times. I know he put together some ok numbers but if you watched him play it was unimpressive. Nice games against Minnesota and Iowa but awful and I mean awful against OSU.

Fully expect him to be known as an average College QB when the season is through. Nothing more.

I don't think he's all that great either, but I'd take him over Rees. The atmosphere is going to be insane for this game, and we have an unproven offense. Gardner can pass/run and is huge. He's not Peyton Manning but is at least decent.

Orange goes preferentially to AAC champion... hense the Louisville selection.

Also, it'd be the Sugar and ROSE bowl that get to pick. So it'd go, Sugar-Rose-Orange-Sugar-Fiesta.

It would go like so:

Rose auto-select: Oregon

Fiesta auto-select: Texas

Orange auto-select: FSU

So if you're the Sugar Bowl...you're going to pick Georgia over Notre Dame with your first pick? Really? ...

So no. It'd more likely be:

NC: Bama v. tOSU

Sugar: ND v Louisville(Sugar isn't going to pick a rematch of USC in this spot)

Rose: Oregon v Nebraska(They'll stick with B1G)

Orange: FSU v Georgia(I think the OJ bowl would be nuts to pass on Georgia even with Louisville on the board)

Fiesta: Texas v. USC (rematch of the VY title game..)

He's the black Dane Crist. Big frame. Big arm. Good lumbering runner. Former 5*. Absolutely no touch whatsoever. Awful decision making.

Go watch the second half the tOSU game. Consider me wholly unthreatened by a kid that wasn't even taking snaps at QB last spring, or ****, even last October. This is like if suddenly Luke Massa was thrust into a starting position last year and was the defacto starter because Zaire wasn't ready.
