jarious
Paul Myerberg's blog, formerly known as Pre-Snap Read, has moved to USA Today with Paul, and he is riffing through his usual daily countdown of the top 125 teams in college football. Link here. http://www.usatoday.com/topic/980e11db-b6b3-49f3-9ccf-ed0fe5ea7193/college-football-countdown/ For folks starving for daily CFB content, this is your place for the next couple months. The new website is not the greatest, but the content is great/same as ever. I will try to add links to ND opponents as they come up. He is currently at #76, and 3 ND opponents have peaked their ugly heads (including two road games). hawaiiirish
We could have easily lost to both purdue & pitt last season--hopefully those two supposed easy games may be easier this season if this fella is correct. I will wait and see on pitt though---they always play us so tough. aloha
OKCIrish99
Great thread Jarious. Encouraging to hear that Temple has woes defensively, especially against the run. That's exactly what I want to hear to break in the new backs and set up Rees. I want Rees to gain lots of confidence before the Michigan showdown. Now, the million dollar question when will we see Zaire? I have a feeling the staff is working with him real good this summer. No doubt, the kid has option stud written all over him seeing him in the spring game.

jarious
Bump for Air Force, coming in at #67. Interesting factoid - Air Force runs a 3-4 defense, and will be breaking in 4 new starting linebackers. Not that it will matter.

jarious
Navy showing up at #60. Yep, added to the list above -- thanks. Obviously, you always need to temper expectations when reading the academy school write-ups, but Myerberg is particularly high on the young Navy QB. Also, the easy patch in ND's schedule jumps off the screen. Figure BYU is next, maybe in the high 40s?

NDhoosier
Where were we on this list last year? If I remember correctly, It was in the high 20s. Like 28th or something.
jarious
If I remember correctly, It was in the high 20s. Like 28th or something. Yep, ND was 25 last year. And, Hoosier, to be clear, I will not be talking up BYU this season.
NDhoosier
lol, that was you last year? Well, they did give us a good game, so technically you were right. Do they still have that stud DE/OLB or did he go to the draft? The one with the odd name.
hawaiiirish
Kyle Van Noy---LB--1st team AA on steele's picks--- There are always many teams that are either better or worse then pre-season projections---- Its very fluid ---so its likely the schedule will look different then it does now once we hit MIDSEASON. If I was looking for a couple of teams that may be better then we think---BYU would be one----ASU, MSU & USC all the LETTER SCHOOLS__ __could all be significantly better then pre-season thinking. aloha's
NDhoosier
Who is the QB for BYU? Wasn't the reason BYU was scary to some (jarious) is because they had an electric QB.
hawaiiirish
Taysom Hill will be the QB for BYU--he is coming off an injury but is fully healthy apparently----he has some talent, he was originally a STANFORD commit---- One of those QBs that COULD and I stress COULD end up being much better then anticipated --and they have some offense to go around him if he pans out. Not a strong team but not hapless by any stretch. aloha's
jarious
Surprisingly, the next Irish opponent on the countdown, coming in at #43... Arizona St. In summary....not yet. I definitely agree with Myerberg's general tone on the optimism for the Sun Devils, largely based on beating no one. That said, he is very high on QB Kelly and their 1-2 RB punch -- especially their ability to catch the ball coming out of the backfield. Regardless, the Devils face a buzzsaw schedule before they reach the Irish, so they will get a chance to prove themselves. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2013/07/23/arizona-state-college-football-countdown-2013-preview/2581361/
NDhoosier
Arizona St. has a very solid QB, but overall, they do not scare me very much, or at least as much as others seem to be. However, I understand why people are a little worried about them. Whenever a team as a proven QB, it elevates the entire team and can make them a threat. To be honest, with our defense this year, I am not worried about too many QBs on our schedule. The Stanford QB is probably the one I am most concerned with. The question is whether WE can score on opposing teams or not, I think our defense will do fine against everyone on our schedule.
