"say what you feel because those who mind dont matter and those who matter dont mind."

I'd say that quote is representative of how Vagas (sorry about the 3rd person) lives his life. I love that quote. It was one I've thought about using many times.

Great thread, Gallup. I assume you will be writing this article. Possibly for DD?

Well here is my list of topics in order of preference:

1. A "Where are they now" of the 1993 team.

2. Some kind of story about the ND Irish Guard. Their march during the pre-game ritual is by far my favorite part of gameday n campus (except the game of course and maybe the beer).

3. I can't get enough of the Travis Leitko story. But, many have been written. So, if you could create a different spin on it, like some sort of diary of his progress through his comeback/final season at ND, that might be interesting. This might be a little difficult because you would have to contact him, convince him to do it by giving you the info (say each week), and then keep in touch with him throughout the football season. Probably a little too much to ask since he will be very busy. But, that would be WAY cool!

4. A story about the success of ND alumni. Kind of like a documentary on ND's most famous alumni and their accomplishments. Not really football related necessarily, but, it would be still interesting.

5. The real scoop on Broke and TD!!!!

If you really need more up-to-date topics that have to deal with this season, let me know I can come up more. But, we hear so much about the season, the team, recruiting, etc on all the sites and boards that it might be nice to do something different.

vagas first of all-like the quote also i think its a great one - 2) im not writing the article, eric hansen of the SBT is for ND fans of New England ( a newsletter which Orazl who belongs to DD runs) -3) great topics, ill definitely think about using those, but Orazl and I are going to think together about what we can use, eric hansen agreed to write one for us

vagas, forgot to add this. my local paper (wellesley townsman) is looking for HS students who are interested in sports journalsim to do articles on fall sports, and ive decided im gonna write one about barry

Vagas.....Come on now we are trying to be family oriented here. Can anyone really print the real scoop on broker and TD?

But I consider both as friends.

Broker like myself I believe was born under a cabbage plant in a field. However, I was present at the birth of TD.

A day when the entire staff went to the mattresses.

Hey, figuratively speaking not literally. I'm sorry the staff took a vow of Omerta over TD.

It's in my will that a day after my death the truth of the birth of TD shall be revealed. Ryan keeps telling me he will have me whacked and make that day sooner.

La Cosa Nostra, baby!

Gallup, that is great. Jounalism is nice career to get into. It has so many avenues that it can take. I didn't have a love for writing when I was your age so the thought never crossed my mind. Now that I am older, I have grown a love for writing and wish I had pursued it at a young age.

If you decide to go down that path for college, let me know. I have some close friends that are journalists in one for or another. And a couple of them are "kinda of a big deal." One of them you might know, his name is Ron Burgundy. Just kidding. Seriously, though I do know some people. One of them is in Baltimore. I'm sure they would welcome the opportunity to mentor you if you get that far in your decision on a career.

vagas, being a sports journalist and going to ND have been my only two goals for the past 8-12 months, and i think taking beginning journalism and creative writing as my two big electives at the High School will help. if im still like this in one year, ill let ya know

yea sj, my mom got us a book of all the colleges in the US, which includes all the majors and ND does NOT have a journalism one. now i know what my senior project should be in 4 years :D

btw, what do you guys think of this so far for my wellesley townsman article on barry? i dont feel like its great, but im still working on it...thoughts?

Gallup Fights For WR Spot at Notre Dame

In South Bend, IN, fall practice has started, and the Notre Dame Football team is building excitement around the media everywhere, hoping for their first National Championship since 1988. But there’s more than that, one player is hoping for.

Wellesley resident and Notre Dame Football Wide Receiver Barry Gallup Jr. is fighting for the 4th spot at wide out in the Notre Dame rotation. He’s fighting with 3 other freshmen for that spot, after a Notre Dame sophomore WR went down with an injury. Gallup, who graduated from the Belmont Hill school earlier this year, was named first team all New England his junior year, surpassing 1700 total yards of offense and scoring 24 TD’s. He also participated in the 2006 Army All American game, a game which the top High School recruits in the country play in. But Gallup is more than just a star on the field. He received offers from academic schools such as Harvard, Stanford,, Duke, and Notre Dame. Gallup, 5”11 175 lb. is a speedy wide receiver, who played running back most of his high school career. He ran a 4.44 forty yard dash his junior year, which made many schools consider offering Gallup. And the right one for him did, which in the end, was Notre Dame. His father, Barry Gallup Sr. is the Assistant Athletic Director of Football operations at Boston College, which made Gallup Jr. consider B.C. But in the end, he chose Notre Dame, because it seemed like the right fit for him. Gallup and his father will square off in ’07 at Notre Dame, in a football rivalry of Boston College and Notre Dame.

Nice. Real nice.

Let me study it longer. Paragraphs though as a critque to break it up some. They will anyway EDITOR's :(

If you did watch the WR video from ND Barry looked good in the practice session. Caught them all. "Samar dropped one." :D or :(

Nick, I graduated w/ a major in Creative Writing (focused on plays, mostly one acts) and a minor in Journalism. I focused on the creative aspect and had a hard time finding a place I could fit into. Gradually I have succombed and accepted a life as an office rat, sometimes I think how it would have been had I focused more on the journalistic aspect of writing. Either way you need to make it happen for yourself, but as we have seen here at the DD you can definetly make things happen for others, namely Montana's family. Good luck w/ your story Nick, it'd be cool to check it out.

:D Scotty beautiful

scotty, if they put it also on the online part of the townsman (i think they do that for most of the articles) ill definitely post it here so you guys can see

guys, youll never believe it! they said someone else was already covering barry, so they said i couldnt write that type of article about him for now. they offered me another sports team, but i said no thanks.

that was before i got this idea,

In january while talking to Barry, i mentioned i was going up to ND for the UM game, and he asked if i wanted to meet up with him after the game, so obviously i said sure. that was a while ago, and i actually hadnt contacted his family till a couple days ago, when his mom followed up on the offer, asking if i wanted to meet up with her after the game and we could go see barry (dont know if she meant the locker room, or what?) so i said yea thatd be great. what do you think an article like that would be, one about the experience of going and meeting an ND player after the game (plus pics!)

Gallup, you know you can create your own major at ND?
