This is a non-issue and not worth worrying about.

We already know that BK has flirted with the NFL, so there will clearly be some interest from his side. He said as much when he mentioned that he has always had a goal of coaching at the highest level.

As for the NFL, the Lions and many other teams will be looking for new coaches.... happens every year. And if BK is as good as we think, he will always be at or near the top of the lists. It's just a byproduct of having a successful coach.

No worries here. Can't worry about the things out of our control. Life gets too stressful otherwise.

This story is absurd: did anyone notice that they quote zero sources? This is Mike Florio churning the rumor mill and drumming up hits for his website. Absolutely shameless.

It is absurd. why would any coach worth anything want to go to the Lions.

I don't know but I just read in a Yahoo article that Chip Kelly, who obviously, hasn't even coach in an NFL game yet is earning $6.5 million next year. I don't care who you are, or how much money you make. If an organization says hey I can double or triple your salary to join our team, you're gonna think long and hard about doing it.

Look guys, Jim Schwartz still has a job with the Lions. We can sit here and worry about every possible fit for Kelly but the fact remains that he is here for year 4.

Do I know whether he will be here for year 5? No. Does anybody else? No. I just think there is no sense in fretting, Heck Schwartz could make the playoffs, and force us to worry about another failing NFL team,

Kelly has quite a challenge in front of him in 2013, when he succeeds he deserves the opportunities he gets. If he fails the opportunities will cool. Regardless the ND team football wise has improved under Kelly and would be that much further ahead for the next guy.

Kelly is not irreplaceable, he's showed Jack Swarbrick the kind of coach he needs to hire next. The job has gotten even more attractive because of recent success..

My policy if I'm Jack is if Kelly's looking I'm looking too. I'm sure he has a list. Its just part of the business.

I see this sentiment a lot. It seems that a lot of us fans have forgotten about the terrible 15 years give or take prior to Brian Kelly arriving here. I do not want to regress, and we need to lock him down for good (if we can).

Although it seems, in today's age of college football, that good/great coaches grow on trees.. I do not want to chance it.

I don't get the feeling that Brian has one foot out the door no matter how much money we offer him like Jim Harbaugh was at Stanford.

I think we should pay him a base between 3 and 3.5 with performance based financial incentives that allow him to earn north of 5 million/year.

This. Florio has no problems stirring the pot for hits on his site with no validity. That's exactly what this is. Unfounded.

Unless the team totally collapses I think it is inevitable that the NFL comes calling again--- and likely as early as January again---

I think contact between NFL teams and Kelly will not be happening during the season--that's not KOSHER and I don't expect it.

But POO POOING this as just one guy trying to generate some action on his site misses the mark somewhat IMO.

Kelly is interested in the NFL--his wishy washy statements have made that perfectly clear.---THE FACT THERE HAS BEEN NO TALK OF SOME HIGH END _LONG TERM CONTRACT BETWEEN KELLY & ND EVER GETTING DONE----

IS NOT--I SAY IS NOT---REASSURING IN THE SLIGHTEST!

Unless and until we start hearing about the millions and millions we are ponying up with the monster buy-out clause---until that expect KELLY GOING TO THE NFL A DISTINCT POSSIBILITY __

This has been THE WORST OFF SEASON in memory for ND FOOTBALL---Losing the coach after a mediocre season in 2013 would in many ways just be part of a horrid scenario playing itself out to its natural conclusion.

That's said--KELLY will likely NOT be going to the Lions---but unless we settle on an offer he can't refuse--a long term deal---it seems very like a given Kelly will be going somewhere in the NFL and probably sooner rather then later.

WHEN WE HEAR ABOUT THE BIG CONTRACT---then this dynamic changes--otherwise expect the worst IMHO.----

And I am OPEN to anyone explaining to me WHY we have not made this coach an offer he can't refuse---why are we so afraid to make the commitment????

In Jack we trust. I dont know, maybe Jack knows something we don't about BK's intentions regardless of an extension offer.

True.

But, people go to the Lions to die. After their head coaching stint there, they become talk show hosts and that's about it. So BK could go to the Lions, have 3 horrible years, make probably $15M total, and then be relegated to 200K stints as an ESPN jockey.

Or he could stay at ND, making $4M per year with endorsements for 10 years and actually enjoy himself.

I would easily choose the ND option.

(Maybe I'm just a little too negative on the Leos)
